Last year we had to essentially pump it out to the backyard as well as take maybe 100+ 3 gallon buckets up the stairs and into the drain. It came through the walls in about an hour in the middle of the night (found it in the morning). We have a pump set up now that leads into this pit (Im assuming thats the sump hole) which essentially leads to the main drainage system. The main problem is the rug, if it gets flooded down there like last year, itll cost my family a few grand. Which would be plain bad.

These pumps only work if submerged so hence the need for the shop vac method. If you have a few inches of water in your basement you'll be thanking Tebow that you have one of these.

I mean if you have received water in the past..you are going to get water this time..guaranteed. Maybe its worth the time to pull it up..just roll it in a safe corner. TBJ..yes..they won 20-6. 0-0 Halftime and then we came out and just ran the ball down their throats...he also plays left guard (played fullback last year but the team is a bit small...so they use him at left guard). Couple of long pass plays but for the most part..ground and pound baby...Rex would have been proud.
Appreciate it. I believe my father has some sort of pump that he's planning on using but I'm not sure how effective it'll be so I'll definitely look into this. We used the shopvac method to save the rug last year but it was a no go. Essentially, the only feasible thing I see working is to monitor it and make sure it doesn't get extremely flooded down here. I'll be sure to pray to Tebow during the process of the storm.

No problem. I dealt with a flooded basement a few years back and my back was ruined for days after lugging the SV up the stairs. Those pumps are often used to drain swimming pools, so maybe ask around if someone has one.
Before I was talking about the difference between a hurricane and a nor'easter for insurance purposes..someone posted this. Better to not be considered a hurricane so this will help people filing claims. the NWS calling something a hurricane (or tropical storm) that isn't a hurricane or tropical storm has huge legal and financial implications -- primarily negative for homeowners. Most insurance policies have higher deductibles that kick in when the storm is called a hurricane by the NWS. http://www.dfs.ny.gov/insurance/homeown/pdf/awindded.pdf Look at that -- many of the companies have policies that declare damage 12 hours before and after landfall of Cat 1 and higher hurricanes as under the higher hurricane deductibles. You bet the insurance company legal weasels will state if the storm had hurricane warnings up 12 hours before landfall, then it must be a hurricane and thus the homeowner has to pay $10,000 instead of $500.

If anyone has finished basements that get wet,feel free to pm me if you need any help. (i'm a certified water damage restorer). All concrete is one thing,you can usually pump the water out and use some dehumidification. But ive seen 1 foot of water in a finished basement wick its way 20 feet up and destroy the 1 st floor if not handled right. If you get damage that is beyond your control,don't try it,call a professional,and one that is IICRC certified. Mold is a real bitch
definetly if you can. you might have to have it restretched and installed,but thats a lot better than trying to dry it if you don't have air movers and low grain dehumidifiers. Rain water is considered catagory 2 water loss,so unlike a pipe burst,the padding would have to be discarded due to outside contamination. if you can roll it up and save it.... keep an eye on sheetrock if you have any too. It's like a straw. Also ,anyone dealing with wet basements... its not the water removal that is key,it;s the water you can't get out that requires dehumidification. Even slightly damp pourous materials can grow mold in 48-72 hrs.
I agree about rolling up the carpet if your basement tends to flood. I'd then get some 2x4s under the rolled carpet to get it fully off of the floor.
