Why doesn't S. Hill catch more balls with his hands?

This. There's no need to over analyze this one.

Bc he was a combine warrior that never did anything in college? Kid is an athlete not a football player. He's not even great at blocking. Rex was right, terrible pick.

In three years you'll still have people propping him up like we do with Wilson.

Hill catches it with his body because I think he doesn't trust his hands yet. He's played what, less than 7 games? This is something that can be improved. He definitely has the skill set to be a reliable receiver or even a game breaking receiver if we let him develop.

Yeah how dare they use stats and gamefilm to show Wilson is a good corner in this league! Outrageous!

I don't know if he was a terrible pick, he certainly isn't Lam Jones or DHB, time will tell, but I'll reserve my judgement on him after season 2.

Hill was plagued with drops all through college. Big long passes where he was wide open and bricked. There's no simple or dismissive explanation. He drops the ball a lot. Probably always will. But he seems to have enough ability to catch to get by, and he'll just have to improve.

Those are usually too much time to think about it catch. If it's what your describing, its definitely an overthinking it as it comes in. Either he will stay like that his whole career, or he will narrow it down enough to become great. To use a cliche, it's what separates 4th string receivers from great receivers

Ya but so did Braylon Edwards when he came to the Jets, but his hands got a lot better, so hopefully, Hill will too.

Ridiculous. Obviously he needs to improve but he has made our offense better because he can get open and he can run the deep route. This, alone, takes him out of the "terrible pick" category.

hill has run some great routes thus far in his rookie season for a guy who was expected to not even be familiar with the full route tree. kid has been a great pick so far. yeh the drops hurt but if he can tighten up those hands he will do some serious damage for the jets.

Hill has already dropped a ton of balls so far this year. One big one in Buffalo, 2 in Pittsburgh, and crucial one in NE now. Most players with bad hands dont ever seem to magically get better hands. He will probably always have these issues.

I don't care if Hill drops a ball occasionally, he still help this offense with his presence, blocking, and ability to get separation on short and deep routes. Whether he turns out to be a great receiver or not, I'd rather have him on my team than on another.

What good is separation if he cant catch a pass?

Because he can catch. If he is consistently separating, it gives us more opportunity to throw to him and he can catch the ball enough times to stretch the defense. He does have 12 catches, let's not pretend he has dropped EVERYTHING that has come his way.

This type of weakness in his game (i.e. catching the ball with his chest versus his hands) is probably fixable. With a full Offseason of coaching, Juggs machine reps, and overall adjustment to the NFL, Hill can improve his catching ability.

Braylon Edwards was notorious for dropping crucial passes, but when he arrived here, that deficiency wasn't a major issue.

All too often, people think that development can't occur over time. If Hill continues to work at improving his hands each year and each Offseason, then I don't see why it's implausible to think that he'll learn the technique and catch the ball with his hands consistently.

He'll get better, Its hard to expect so much of out of a raw rookie, starting for a team looking to go far after he dominated in his 1st pro game

People were still going on about Braylon's dropped passes after 2010 when he only had 1 drop the entire season.

5 drops to 12 catches is not a very good ratio though....

Catching is something you have when you come in or you dont. How many projects with bad hands all of a sudden developed good hands after they came in?
