You just responded to your own post... You said "HE GOT SACKED". The question should be "WHY DID HE GET SACKED?". Why didn't the O-line stand and deliver when it really really needed to deliver? Sanchez had no time at all, he had a defender blasting him in the numbers as soon as he got the ball, what kind of protection was THAT??? You can blame Sanchez if you want to, but that fumble isn't on him, its' on the O-line. The O-line needed to make a stand there and they failed to do it, that's not Sanchez fault.
hill dropped a pass. great. doesnt change the fact that sanchez has been a bottom 5 QB for several years and needs to go.
I do not like sanchez but i get the fact that its one of the most difficult positions in sports and u have to be tough as nails to do it - and do it well. that being said he made some very very good throws yesterday - throws that a good NFL QB should make. there were a couple of ducks and misfires also buried in there that we have grown to expect from him. there are still too many basic NFL throws that are inconsistent - he is very clumsy in the pocket - he appears to be athletic so he really should have better footwork - but doesn't. now the OL woes do not help and some of it has to be attributable to that. shame on the jets for ignoring the OL. they are doing the entire offense a disservice by doing so. the more i think about it the more mind numbing it gets. i do not know where the greater fault is - the OL or the LB unit.
the sack to end the game was on the offensive line, but sanchez HAS to protect that ball. he saw the guy. whats worse is he tried to throw it away, which even if he was able to get off, would have been a back breaking intentional grounding call as everyone was way down field. take the sack, move on to the next play. we have 4 downs its not the end of the world. also, the offensive line gave him all day to throw for the most part yestarday, and have pass protected pretty well the past 4 weeks
one thing i took note of was the post game comments from sanchez. he appeared to be satisfied with his performance and not so dissatisfied with the loss.
agree - the pats were pinning the ears back and the best play call at that point would have been a draw - but with who?? tebow?
Neither one were his fault, the Cumberland ball should have been caught and he had no time yesterday. He was outstanding yesterday and a big reason why we had a chance to win. Stop complaining about one of the better parts of our team. That bad stretch he had from pitt through SF is over, he's playing really well and gives us a chane to win every week.
If you watch the replay when he was about to hit the dirt on the sack he trys to throw the ball as he is falling instead of holding on to the ball, listen i think Sanchez played a great game but things like this take away from it and make people hate him
This is one of Sanchezes worst habits. He always tries to throw the ball away when he's getting sacked and it often turns into a stupid pass that is or could easily be intercepted. This time it happened to be a fumble. I cannot believe the coaches haven't told him to cut the shit and take the sack.
Yup. I can't imagine that any QB in the league turns the ball over to opposing defensive linemen as often as Sanchez does (with both fumbles and picks,) and when it happens it's almost always because he won't just sit on the ball. The defense is going to beat the offense on some plays, it's unavoidable. You have to be willing to lose the play instead of risking losing the possession.
if sanchez holds the ball for a sack this thread would be changed to 'you CANT take a sack in that situation! mark sucks!!!!....throw it away for gods sake!!!!'
I think Sanchez is a talented QB, but he tends to panic and/or make decisions in desperation when the team is not in a desperate situation. He needs to overcome that and I'm not sure if it's possible. He made that horrible pass to Hill that was intercepted - it looked like he saw Hill at the last second and then just flung the ball instead of throwing the ball like a pro QB. When the Jets took the lead at the end of the game, on the play before he got sacked for a big loss and made the field goal less makeable (they made it anyway). He should have thrown it away - it was a no-brainer. He tried to make something happen when there was nothing there and the Jets could have paid - he was lucky. Finally, at the end of the game, he was sacked and he fumbled. I know it's not his fault that the protection wasn't there, but he fumbles A LOT when sacked! Look at Brady - when the play isn't there, he throws it away. You never see Sanchez throw the ball away (safely) or tuck the ball and go down when he's going to get sacked. Mentally, Sanchez isn't so good right now.
I agree completely. It's psychological, not physical skills, that are holding him back. He doesn't play smart.
Throwing the ball away in that situation would have been stupid. The right play was to take the sack and force the pats to burn a timeout.
I don't agree. The first priority is to get the score and that sack took them out of "gimme" field goal range.
absolutely that was a good decision to take the sack. What we should ahev done on 1st down w/ 2:01 left was run play ation as the clock was stopping either way.
MANY running backs don't get to play if they have problems with turnovers that are as bad as Sanchez' turnover problems. Sanchez seems to get a break though. If his turnover problems continue, he won't last in this league, at least as a starter. What's his contract situation?
its easy to say this AFTER we know the FG was made. we were losing. you want a makeable field goal. if your concern was burning a timeout and tieing the game, then you run the ball there
if he doesn't take a sack, Brady has 2 timeouts and 1:30 left and probably scores a TD and wins in regular time...taking a sack was the right call. It only dropped the odds of making the FG by 10%, but lowered the chances of an answering TD by 50% as a guess
