http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2012/10/jets_quinton_coples_aaron_mayb.html Coples fined for the facemask penalty and Maybin fined for the block that negated the Cromartie pick 6.
I completely disagree with the Maybin fine. It shouldn't even have been a penalty. If luck was able to disengage from his block he could have made a play on Cromartie. Complete bullshit.
+1 I get that the NFL wants to protect QBs, but if Luck is going to pursue the play then the Jets have to be allowed to block him.
This. Even if he wasn't in the play, IDGAF if he's a QB, he is a professional FOOTBALL player. He needs to man the f*ck up.
Bullshit on Maybin, I hope he appeals that nonsense. Even the announcers said that the call was crap. Once a turnover happens, the QB is fair game. I've seen Sanchez get leveled a number of times after turnovers and nobody was ever fined for it. They said that the QB is no longer protected and becomes a blocker after the TO so we accepted that. Of course when it's in the Jets favor, it HAS to be an illegal penalty. So stupid, bring back the replacement refs.
From the article... Aaron Maybin was hit with a $7,875 fine for unnecessary roughness. The league believed Maybin "unnecessarily" struck an opponent with his elbow. On the field the play resulted in a penalty that negated an Antonio Cromartie interception for a touchdown. After looking at the coach's film, one can see Maybin going back for what looks like a second hit on Luck where Maybin jabs with his elbow. The television cameras did not pick up what appears to be the fine-worthy portion of Maybin's contact with Luck.
The Maybin call was one of the worst calls I've ever seen, and the fact that he was fined for it is a fucking travesty. Luck was actively running towards the ball trying to make a play, was Maybin supposed to just let him run by and make the tackle? Fucking farce. I think what really happened was Goodell's mother took an elbow to her stomach when she was pregnant with him.
Hey, I don't care. I'm just pointing out that something went on that the TV broadcast didn't show. Fine worthy? Who knows. Ask Mark Gastineau.
My first reaction was "Wow how could coples be fined for that!"..... Then I saw that Maybin was fined for his block. And all of a sudden the Coples fine just didn't feel important in my brain anymore. Wow. I have never in my life experienced a more unjustified fine in sports than this one. Luck was clearly Clearly CLEARLY in front of the play and could be considered a TACKLER. So let me get this straight...Maybin got fined for a textbook block on a TACKLER that led to the ballcarrier having a easier path to the endzone. Roger, go fuck yourself with a spiked bat.
Save the rage for the Pats game. NY Post- Coples, the Jets' first-round pick, was fined $10,000 on Friday for grabbing the facemask of Luck, the No. 1 overall selection, in New York's 35-9 win Sunday. Maybin was fined $7,875 for "unnecessarily" striking Luck with his elbow after blocking him during an interception return by Antonio Cromartie. The penalty wiped out Cromartie's touchdown. NY Times- Maybin was fined $7,875 for "unnecessarily" striking Luck with his elbow after blocking him during an interception return by Antonio Cromartie.
Roger Goodell is clearly shows favorable treatment toward the Jets because of his glory year as an intern for NYJ during an inconsequential early 80s season. /patsfuckfaceken
The Jets were given unnecessary fines for penalties against a quarterback during a preparation week against golden boy Brady. Don't for a second think that wasn't premeditated.
