Seattle being 0-3 in the division is going to make it much harder for them to win the division - they're not going to win any tie-breakers that way.

Kind of a weird way to end it, which sucks. He didn't get the first down anyway so it's kind of a moot point. I get that he didn't want the Seahawks to maybe retrieve the onside kick but it would have still been a two score game...with barely any time left. If that has any implications on betting results some people are going to be pretty pissed.

I get it now. Declining the safety they win 100% of the time barring a Schiano recovery. Accepting I guess there's a slim chance Seattle recovers an onside kick, scores a TD, recovers another onside kick, and then kick a game winning FG, lol.

that was the announcer's argument, but I've never even seen an onside kick off a free kick. I guess they'd have to figure out something to try.

the gambling forums must be going nuts over this one. San Fran was -7.5 or -8 at most places (pinnacle and 5 dimes employed teaser protection and had their standard line at 9 or 10, but that was like -130 for Seattle. The fair -110/-110 line was 7.5 or 8).

So Harbaugh's decision took it from SF by 9 to SF by 7, flopping the outcome of a spread bet.

Harbaugh made the right call. The chances of recovering an onside kick scoring recovering a second and getting a FG for the win are very low. However they are likely still significantly better than the odds of a fumble on a kneeldown

It's funny because if Sanchez had those type of numbers people would want to run him out of town but there are people ranking Wilson ahead of Sanchez in that poll thread.

I'll say this: I think Wilson has potential but he still has a long way to go.

I don't think it mattered in the least. There was like 40 seconds left. 2 successful onside kicks leading to scores in 40 seconds? I think not. I wanted him to take the points because it affected my fantasy team. It's really just paranoia.

Wilson had a few lucky hail mary passes this year that have inflated his stats a bit. He's still got a ways to go. Sanchez is definitely better.

An onside kick on a free kick after a safety is possible, but very difficult (in fact, Cleveland did it on Sept 19, 2004, and Kellen Winslow Jr. was hurt on the play). There are two related problems with it. First, you're not allowed to use a tee, like you can on a kickoff. Second, it is illegal for the kicking team to interfere with someone trying to catch the ball in the air. This is why on "regular" onside kicks the kicker always bounces the ball up in the air - at that point it's legal to fight the receiving team's players for the ball (after 10 yards). A punt up in the air would have to be muffed to work as an onside kick, since the receiving player can just fair catch it without any interference.

Pretty much the only way it would work would be to punt it low and hard right at someone and hope it bounces off them, which is not too likely. I would still make it more likely than a fumble on a kneeldown, so Harbaugh not taking the points makes perfect sense.

due to the giants being home at 1, the tristate area once again is stuck with only two games this afternoon (giants, then jets).

most places regularly get three games. whether they're the ones you want are another story.

When you're stuck in an area that's in the 'territory' of two NFL teams...
