i refuse to rank mark sanchez in anything that say "top" if you were to make the last two categories the "bottom" 2 or bottom 7 then i would be able to bring myself to vote in this poll. hehe wasnt he ranked 33rd just a week or 2 ago.
Probably, yeah considering he got there twice with what many would consider an inferior team in back to back years so why not a team with Rice, Lewis, Suggs, etc. And I bet after that last Chargers game there would be plenty of Chargers fans that would take a lot worse than Sanchez for Rivers. Although if you want to pick apart individual choices then leave out Rivers. The point still stands that you can't go off of stats alone and you have to factor in that a QB may have better surroundings but that doesn't mean he's a better QB. I'm not saying Sanchez would have a few rings if he played for the Packers or the Giants or the Patriots but it's a little lopsided to look at a team like the Giants which has a great offense and compare it to what we have, Eli would make us a better team but we aren't a two SB ring team if he's throwing to Kerley and Jeff Cumberland. Of course the flip side of that is true as well. Just because there are teams that are worse than us doesn't mean their QB is worse.
well, who is better and who i would take over mark are different questions really. others have brought it up, but there are more factors that go into hether or not you want a qb. and people judge things differently. anyway.. who i wouldnt take over mark: ponder (hes got adrian peterson standing next to him back there, it kind of makes things easier...) fitzpatrick romo rivers freeman tanehill (dont see him getting to a level much higher than mark) gabbert shaub hasselback/locker quinn/cassel smith vick (you think mark is a turnover machine? let this guy actually stay on the field a whole season and see how many he racks up) weeden palmer stafford (i think he offers the same things mark does) bradford kolb questionable- luck (hes got huge potential but hes a rookie, look what happened to cam newton, not that i wouldnt take cam newton over mark, but these guys arent as good as cam was as a rookie) griffin (more potential than luck but the jury is still out, he runs a lot as well so he could develop some injury concerns, have to wait it out) wilson (rookie limbo, could be great, could fade away) ryan (hes a better passer no doubt, but i dont trust him in the playoffs) flacco (ray rice is an absolute beast, dont know if he can be the same qb without that kind of running game) cutler (to problems) absolutely take over mark: brady manning manning brees newton roethlisburger rodgers so thats 7 i would definitely take, but like i said, there are even guys on the wouldnt take list that i would consider better qbs than mark, but are lacking in other areas that i dont think would make for an overall better team. off the top of my head guys that are better than mark: brady manning manning brees rodgers cutler roethlisberger ryan newton rivers flacco stafford bradford vick smith im gonna stop cause i dont really feel like continuing, the point is, there may be better qbs but very few are not without their own flaws. i think mark sanchez should be looked at as more of a game manager than a gunslinger, he has the ability to make all the throws, and has proven he can win games with his arm, but i think asking him to run the entire offense is just asking too much. he needs a solid run game to compliment him, he is just not going to go out there and get you 80 yards through the air every drive.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt and put him in the top 15. Top 20 is easier to defend. Its kind if incredible that there are ~320 million people in this country and yet 32 teams can't all have ridiculously good quarterbacks.
Top 20. I'm not into the whole stat thing as much as everyone else, but this guy helped us win tons of football games. I don't get why so many people are obsessed with stasticistics. As long as the guy helps us win isn't that what we all want? I think Mark needs to finish the season to strong to rank him period the team has so many Damn question marks that it's hard to evaluate Sanchez as our QB. I don't know how things will work out in the end and he has played like trash against top tier defenses this year.
I think his main problem is his inconsistancy, week to week. One week he can play well but the next week dreadful. He will never be in the top half until he starts to consistantly perform at the same level week in and week out - and I don't mean consistantly bad!
I went with top 20. I think he is now and will be an average QB ranking somewhere in the 15 to 20 range. That seems fair to me.
He's already taken some hard hits a QB (already got 1 concussion). I like the way RG3 throws it, but I don't want him taking a lot of hits. QBs that run the ball tend to get injured. That's what I meant.
 at so many people ranking him top 30, which means only 2 starting QBs in the league are worse than him. Fuckin haters. Stick to espn.com.
Some clueless posts on here. It's actually scary that some pick Sanchez ahead of elite talents like RGIII and Rivers. Also if anyone has watched Weeden throw, Sanchez doesn't have nearly the arm strength or accuracy that Weeden does. That kid is a slinger. Sanchez is somewhere between 20-25 as a starting QB in the NFL which is right where he belongs. He'll never get you to a Super Bowl but he'll also usually finish with about 6 to 8 wins every year if he has decent talent around him. He's average AT BEST.
Sorry, this will be off topic a bit but I did do your poll. I voted top 20. Anyway, although I have posted before under a diff. name I am now at 15 posts and have a request. If anyone cares about this please start a thread. I want to know when people started caring/following this team. I've been a fan for 30+ years and some of the shit I have seen posted could only be posted by people who have not seen this team struggle over the decades a lot of us have. So, in short, Someone, please, WHEN DID YOU FIRST START SUPPORTING THIS TEAM and possibly, WHY? thx, Cutter
Weeden is also, what, 29-years-old and in his rookie season? Not to mention he's thrown less TDs and more INTs than Sanchez and while I don't put a lot of stock in the QB Rating I think one game he had a rating of like 2.1 or something...which is worse than I thought was physically possible, I thought you got a few points just for showing up like taking the SATs. He might have an arm but he's older, less experienced and the numbers don't indicate he's doing too well. Given he's on a shit team so that could impact his numbers as well. But I don't think if we do a trade straight up for Weeden that our record is any better at this point or by the end of the season. It's the same at best and I would bet on it being worse but that's just my opinion.
Ya think? He's on a horrible team and has still thrown for 400 more yards than Sanchez to household name receivers like Josh Gordon. He's also kept them in close games against the Ravens and looked good against the Giants. Gotta give credit to a QB who keeps his team in games even when his stats aren't good. Noone is saying to trade Weeden for Sanchez, just pointing out some of Weeden's strengths over Sanchez. The fact that we're debating Weeden vs Sanchez should be even more telling. Sanchez is right between 20-25 in terms of starting QB's. Not gonna win the big one with that.
Personally I think he's a bit better than that, in the sense of "on our team" some of the guys getting hyped up wouldn't contribute anymore or have any greater shot at winning the big one. I know it's been beaten to death but we had back to back AFC Championship appearances with him, that has to stand him in some good stead.
Mark > Tebow > McElroy That puts Mark in the top 3rd of QBs. Plus I graduated in the top 99% of my class, so I know what I'm talking about.
I voted Top 15. There's a number of quarterbacks I think are a toss-up with Sanchez all around that 15ish area, and I think that will say more than who I would take him over. (in no particular order) Tony Romo Jay Cutler Phillip Rivers Andy Dalton They all have certain upsides, but problems lie in consistency (except Dalton). If I'm rebuilding a program, I take Dalton then Sanchez. If I want to trade to win this year, I take Rivers, Romo, then Sanchez. If I'm comparing performance this year, I go Cutler, Rivers, Dalton, Sanchez, Romo. But, again, the difference isn't significant enough for me to feel much better with one guy over the next in the scheme of things.
A fan's perspective on Sanchez has absolutely nothing to do with whether they consider themselves a sunshiner or darksider. It goes much deeper than that. A sunshiner views their role as supporting the team no matter what happens, and trusting those in charge to make the best decisions for the team. A darksider views their role as pushing the team to be the very best it can be, and pointing out the flaws that keep the team from winning championships. Those are two fundamentally different viewpoints, and QB is only one issue out of many.
Clear bias here, at least from the way I read it. Not really. A sunshiner doesn't necessarily believe no matter what happens those in charge are correct. A sunshiner believes that a new regime or approach will be enough to turn this team into a great one. They think the "next man up" approach will work and that we aren't really far off, only 1-2 years and that this year is still a possibility at being a great year. A darksider doesn't think small changes can switch the perception/direction of the Jets. They don't think that we are 1-2 years off. They are ready for 3-4 years of below average teams before we have a chance again. They are used to this team not being consistently successful and are prepared to happen again. They usually don't think the current regime will last for the next bolt of success even if they believe part of the regime should still be around. They don't think the small changes the sunshiner hope will propel the team will actually do that. An extreme sunshiner is what you stated above. They think everything will always work its way out. There are a few posters like that. An extreme darksider thinks this team will never get anywhere and that every move is the wrong one. They lack patience and love judging players/careers off of one game or play. There are few posters like this.
