Girardi could be on his way out (hopefully). Tonight is a must-win (obviously). At least we have Phil Hughes to rely on tonight.....
Gardner is 3/8 in his career vs. JV. if it's going by success against Verlander, A-Rod should be in there. Since April 17, Gardner has has four major league at bats, as far as I can tell.
Brett Gardner is simply a better player than Nick Swisher, IMO, especially taking into account Swisher's postseason stats (11 series, .584 OPS, 4 homers, 7 RBI, .167 BA...). What I'm saying here is if Gardner were completely available, he should've been playing all along.
Maybe but he hasn't played all year. I would absolutely take Swisher 1000 times before I took Gardner once going against Verlander tonight. Unless the plan is to have him bunt 4 straight times and hope he beats it out once or twice.
Glad A-Rod and Swisher and riding the pine but, not at all thrilled that Nunez will be playing short. He has botched so many plays this year, he is a tremendous liability in a crucial must win game. Would have rather see a sure handed A-Rod in there instead.
That's what I'm saying. If he wasn't batting I assume there was a reason for it. That's another one I don't get. Nix was Jeter's replacement, and now Girardi starts Nunez? I thought they didn't feel comfortable with him at short. Maybe Girardi's reasoning is that since Hughes allows so many fly balls, it's important to have outfield defense (Gardner) and not as important on the infield (Nunez).
wow Hughes pulled in the 4th out of a 1-0 game. Some kind of injury. betting odds now have the Yankees at 5 to 1 odds
announcers guessing some kind of injury but we didn't get anything. We'll find out after the game I guess. Maybe he pulled a muscle?
