....for sticking with what's working. After 6 yrs of Shotty I expected the Jets to come out after half time with an empty back field. Sparano seems to know what stomping on a teams neck is all about. About time.
It's too early to say this positively but if the Jets can build off of what they did today then the whole entire coaching staff deserves credit for sticking with the plan rather than abandoning ship at the first sign of trouble. If the coaching staff followed popular opinion this ship would be sunk already.
Plus I liked the snaps Sparano gave Tebow today, although if Tebow hands off to #25 on his last snap McKnight scores from 50 yards out. Loved the fake punt once again. HUGE. edit: you could see tebow calling for it. balls.
Sparano took what was there and profited. Really good game plan on his part. If the Jets faced a team with a rookie QB, no #1 RB and a bad rush defense every week they'd be headed to the Super Bowl. And yeah I really enjoyed the win and I expect the Jets to get about 5 more in similar fashion this season.
This wasn't a great team, but they had some solid games this season. Any NFL game you win by 26 points is damn impressive. Hats off to Sparano for pounding it out, he found something that worked, and dared them to stop it. Will this work with all teams? No. But, it's refreshing to see the ground and pound back (even if it's at the hands of a poor defense). Hopefully momentum can be built off this. All that time of possession really benefited the defense as well. Great win. PS- Where was Keller? Did he come back prematurely?
I need to see more of this goodness before i will say the jets have turned the corner. But its a good start.
I will reserve my opinion till the end of next week. Once I see the Jets stomping Pats in their turf, then I will say Jets have something going for them.
Offense was great today. A couple of 3 and outs, but not nearly as prevalent as the past two weeks. Biggest play of the game was that fake punt pass. I love how we're actually shocking teams on special teams. Nice killer instinct.
I'm not saying the jets turned the corner and all's good in jet land, just saying it was nice to see an OC stick to whats working. Colts have a bad run D? THEN RUN THE DAMN BALL!!!! How many times did we suffer with Shotty throwing 50 times against the worst run D in the league? Again, it was nice to have an OC that recognized the other teams weakness and exploited it BOTH HALVES!!!!
Sort of where I'm at too. This should quiet the masses and the media until the bye week anyhow. Everything was clicking today though. They played solid and took what the defense gave them, and stuck with what was working. The best part, they eliminated the big drive busting mistakes they had been making, whether it was Sanchez, the receivers, the O line, or the coaches. They could have beat the Texans if not for the big mistakes, so this is a very positive development.
I have to agree with that big time. Hit them at their weakness, no different than war, except no guys shooting at you with flip flops on.
This to me is the big Kudos of the game. The coaching staff had a great plan against a team that was weak against the run and they just kept sticking it to that weakness. Which is exactly what your supposed to do. I also give big props to the defensive plan for the day that confused Luck, sacked him 4 times (2.5 of those sacks came from Coples and Wilkerson) and on top of that 6 QB hits, (two of them from Coples and 2 From Maybin). The Jets game plan did an excellent job on both sides of the ball attacking the weak spots on the rebuilding Colts. That said I need to see the Jets do this against a good team before I'll say their turning the corner. (but not running up 30+ points necessarily, just winning). That said. Next week we get the Patriots who currently have the #8 ranked run defense. So it's likely we'll need Sanchez to actually contribute a significant portion of the offense. The good news is the Pats defense ranks in the bottom 1/4 of the league in pass defense in every category except interceptions. Their in the bottom 1/4 in yards per attempt, total yardage, TD's allowed, sacks, completion percentage, etc. So if Marks going to shine on his stats, next week may be the week as the pats pass defense really hasn't been good...but then again they always step up their game for the Jets.
Schottenheimer would have called 60 pass plays and lost. He did games in and games out, against Raiders and Giants, just off the top of my head. Probably a lot more.
Except for preseason games, last week and today are the only games I've been able to watch down here in Florida. Sanchez looked great in the past 2 games, and today everything was clicking and working like a machine. I don't know why there has been so much Sanchez-bashing in the main forum for the past few weeks, cuz it all looked good to me. As a Tebow fan I'm happy to see him used the way that the Jets promised when they signed him. Perfectly happy for Tim to play backup QB behind Sanchez and play on special teams. And I was very very happy not to see the lame 1 play switching of QBs today.
They finally used Tebow effectively today and for Sparano, good game called. Now he's up against a vastly superior NE team and CS. Time to "step his game up" and create a plan that attacks weaknesses, doesn't take too long to implement and plays within the effectiveness of our offense, In other words, be all you can be on offense but know your limitations.
NE kiilled Tebow last year. It'd be very sweet to see Tebow contribute next week in a solid win for NY!!!! Not sure where that contribution will come, but that's a good thing b/c Belicheck ain't got a clue either. This may be the game Rex has been saving 'the Tebow package' for.
Rex will have to bring his "A" game as well to disguise the weaknesses Revis' absence created. They're gonna have to figure a way to get off the field on 3rd down before the defense gets gassed. I'll be checking the accuweather forecast this week as well as this is a truly transitional time of year in the NorthEast. In short, the plan that beat Indy today won't be good enough to beat NE next week. To win, the Jets will have to play out of their minds on both sides of the ball. I'm not saying its impossible as we've beat NE IN NE before, but that was then and this is now. The ground game has to show up or we lose.
I'll take our ground game over theirs any time, any place. And i'll take our pass-D over theirs too. Plus I think Rex could beat Belicheat in arm wrestling, so that clinches it. Jets 34 NE 12
