Love the Jarvis Jones pick, probably the best defensive player in the draft and gives us the pass rusher we desperately need.

I have him #1 for us as well. The question remains will we be bad enough to draft him? We'll probably need to be in the top 5-6 range and I think Barkevious Mingo would be a good 2nd option but I am not a fan of Sam Montgomery. I think he benefits greatly from playing at LSU and he was essentially invisible in the national title game.

I'm not a B Mingo fan, he's been hot & cold this season. The games I've seen him play, he seems to have taken some plays off.

Jarvis Jones would be a solid option.

I have a feeling Rex/Tanny are going to be pressured into drafting Offense in RD 1. There is going to be a lot of media/fans wanting a player like Lattimore.

I expect the Jets to be in the 8-12 range come April and TE'O would be a perfect player to replace Scott who is way past his prime. TE'O would become the leader on the Jet's defense and he's a football player, not a shot in the dark like Coples & Hill who both had issues going into last year's draft. TE'O isn't lazy or limited amount of plays at his position.

You don't draft ???s in Rd 1 & 2, you want as close to a can't miss prospect as possible.

After the recent poor drafts by the Jets picking so many guys on potential, I want to see a guy that produced in college. The Jets should not even be touching Mingo with a ten foot pole. Does Coples ring a bell to anyone? The dude had the same things said about him in college. He had a TON of potential, but he was inconsistent and he took plays off. I am not saying that he is already a bust or anything like that, but this team needs immediate impact talent that can produce. We don't need any more long term projects. Wherever we draft, I just hope we infuse some much needed talent into this team that can help right away.

I agree with you here. I was leary of Coples and Hill last year. One had motor issues and the other was very raw. now fast forward to this season and we have Coples who is still slowly workign his way into the line up and Hill has had hot and cold streaks when healthy enough to play. His physical attributes look great, but his hands not so much. He catches way too often in his body.

Te'o would be just what the defense ordered, speed and passion at linebacker. We seem to lack alot of both right now. We need high motor players who can step in right away, not boom or bust projects taht need coached up. We have drafted far too many of the latter recently.

I think the Jets will almost definitely go offense for the next draft.

Don't get me wrong, the Jets could use a MLB like T'eo and could use some OLB types like Jarvis Jones, Mingo, Montgomery, Chase Thomas, but offense is CLEARLY the biggest need.

I think the Jets could go in two directions in this draft. Either try to get some real weapons on offense for Sanchez or scrap Sanchez and go QB in the first round and try to build around a new QB.

Like all drafts, where you pick is probably going to dictate what position you will draft in the first round. Honestly, if the Jets get a top five pick, I don't see any way they don't go QB, unless they decide they have to keep Sanchez because of his salary. Anyway, I am not trying to turn this into a QB situation thread, so I will stay on topic. If we pick within the top 5, I think we go QB for sure. Within the top ten, it gets very sketchy. Clearly the Jets are going to go offense, but its probably too early for a RB, and WR is not a glaring need this early, which would leave OL and QB as the two choices.

Geno Smith is going to be a definite top five pick, possibly #1. Barkley started the season as the clear top prospect for the 2013 draft, he has slipped a little bit with teams questioning whether his upside is worth the #1 pick. No one is questioning his ability. He will almost definitely be a solid NFL QB, but does he have top ten QB potential is the question. Right now, he could go probably anywhere from 3 or 4-10. After that, you have Tyler Bray and Tyler Wilson as possible choices, but its questionable whether either guy is worth a top ten pick at this point. The Jets could go OL early. Chance Warmack is one of the better guard prospects in recent memory. He could definitely step in right away and help us reestablish ground and pound if the Jets choose so, but even then the Top Ten might be a little early for him. Luke Joeckel at OT could be a good choice. Most see him as a LT in the NFL, but I would imagine he would start out at RT for the Jets.

If we play some good football and choose towards the middle of first round or the latter part of the first round, a RB is certainly in play.

Either way, whatever position we choose to address in the first round, I think its a necessity that the Jets really bolster the offense. The defense has some problems, especially slow and old LB's and a lack of pass rush, but there is simply a lack of talent on the offense. We need an every down RB, we need to bolster an OL that has been horrible all year, and QB could very possibly be in play as a need depending on what the Jets decide with the QB situation.

It will really disappoint me if the Jets do what they did last year. Take three athlete type project players early who will probably need some time to develop, and then throw away all your draft picks in the process trading up, and then fill your team with roster fillers later.

The Jets simply can't afford these long term very athletic projects anymore who could be special, but could also be busts. We need to take some football players rather than athletes.

I don't see offense as the set in stone need in round one. We have weapons in the passing game if healthy. Holmes, Kerley, and Hill are a decent top three. We do lack depth at WR, but everyone lacks depth in some areas. If resigend Keller has proven to be a good option at TE, Not great but good enough. We need a RB. Good ones can be had in round two and I want no part of drafting one in the top 10. There is no Richardson or Peterson in this draft. If we go offense it should be Oline. They have been far below expectations in run blockign this year.

The defense has needs as well. MLB is a huge one as well as an edge rusher. Add to that both our starting safteys are UFA's and the lack of talent up the middle of the feild looks scary. We are currently giving up 172 rushing yards a game which ranks us 31st. Yes folks, thats below the bills. For a front office/Coaching staff that wants to pride it self on defense and running the ball we lack the talent to do so in both our front 7 and Oline.

I think this season has taught the front office a lesson. All the trading up is nice and all to get better talent, but it really hurts in the depth department, and when you have injuries when you take that strategy, you are screwed, and this year has made that evident.

I actually agree that drafting an offensive player in the first round isn't needed, but we need to draft offensive players early and often. Maybe three out of the first four rounds or two out of the first three. The point is, the offense has bigger needs than the defense.

QB could possibly be a need depending on what the Jets decide to do with Sanchez and Tebow. RB is an obvious need. We need a starter. Greene and Powell really aren't bad RB's, but neither should be playing in starting roles. A starting WR isn't needed right now, but we lack depth. Holmes, Hill and Kerley are a solid 1-3, but after that, it gets real sketchy. Schillens and Turner are not #4 receivers. Keller is fine at TE, and Cumberland still has potential, but we need a blocking TE. One of the reasons that we have been unable to run the ball is because without Keller, we don't have a TE that can block.

The line is a mess as well. Nobody has played particularly well. Mangold and Brick are still good players, and they deserve job security, but besides those two, we have possibly three needs on the OL. Howard hasn't been Wayne Hunter bad, but its obvious that he is just a stop gap, he isn't very good, yet he isn't horrible. RT is still a need though. As is LG and RG. Slauson has just been atrocious this year, he has been so bad that Vlad has replaced him at points, thats an obvious problem. I am not ready to give up on him, but LG could be a need if Slauson doesn't step up his play. Moore also hasn't been that good this year. He hasn't been detrimental to the team, but he is old and he is clearly not getting any better. I also don't see any of our back ups being capable of eventually being starters, so you have possibly three needs on the OL, as well as depth.

The defense has some needs but clearly not as many of the offense. The defensive line is not a need. Maybe better production is needed, but the talent is there. Pouha is still a very good player when healthy, although he is getting older, and Ellis has shown the ability to be very good at times, although he has his lumps. Devito and Wilkerson also have not played well this year, and Coples really hasn't played, but the talent is there, the guys just aren't producing. It would be idiotic to go out and draft a defensive lineman or sign one just because the guys haven't produced this year, the talent is there.

We have some obvious needs at LB, I agree. The two OLB spots are our most glaring needs defensively. I would be surprised if Thomas doesn't retire at the end of the season, and Pace is getting older and slower by the day. Harris has not played well the last year or so, but he still is a good LB, and the least of our problems at LB. I do agree that Bart is a big problem. He can still play the run, but his mobility is lacking, and we do need another MLB. Maybe Demario Davis is that guy, maybe McIntyre is the answer at OLB, we just really don't know yet, the one thing I would like to see is Davis getting more playing time.

At CB we are pretty solid. Depth might be an issue, but our first three are probably the best 1-3 at CB in the NFL. I really like what I have seen from Landry this year, and Bell hasn't been too bad, but I do realize that its very possible one or both of them leaves in the offseason, although I would like to keep both of them as our starting safeties next year.

So to recap, we have possible needs for starting players QB, RB, TE, LG, RG, RT and depth needs at WR, TE and all over the offensive line. On defense we have possible starting player needs at both at OLB spots, MLB, SS, FS while we have depth needs at safety and CB.

I say Round 1 the only way I got offense is a QB

    We need a pass rusher

Rounds 2 and 3 we can find offensive talent, this draft is pretty deep

I don't think offense is a must in round 1 but I do think this draft needs to be spent suring up the OL and adding a pass rusher. I think Jones would be too good to pass up if he is there when we pick.

My ideal draft would look like this or something like this

    Rd 1 - Jarvis Jones DE/OLB Georgia
For obvious reasons we get a pass rusher

Rd 2 - Jonathan Cooper OG North Carolina
A 4 year starter in college who will step in right away for Slausen

Rd 3 - Ricky Wagner RT Wisconsin
Another starting caliber OL who would hopefully be our future RT

Rd 4 - Michael Mauti ILB Penn St
    Bye Bye Bart

Rd 5 - Rex Burkhead RB Nebraska
A bruising back, perefectly fits the ground and pound but can also catch

Rd 6 - Jordan Rodgers QB Vanderbilt
A sleeper, obviously a smart guy but has a big arm. (I just don't know if our staff can develop a sleeper QB)

Rd 7 - Ray Ray Armstrong S Faulkner University
Characeter concerns, was kicked out of Miami and unable to play in NAIA due to his contact with an agent. Will be out of football a yearbut was solid when he played

We could add 4 opening day starters in the 1st 4 rounds and take a chance on a safety who could develop into a starter

We absolutely need a RB. Theres no doubt in my mind that we will, or really should address it in the 1st 3 rounds. Theres no way we can just let this offense be the way it is without any playmakers... NO ONE on offense scares any defense. We need a true playmaker, whether it be Gio Bernard/Joseph Randle at RB or Tavon Austin at WR playing a Percy Harvin role (obviously just examples).

If Sanchez is on this team next year as the starting QB, honestly it might smart to just go offense 3 rounds in a row with a WR, RB and OL or even a TE since Keller is a bitch. I simply can not watch this offense another year if its left the way it is... And adding two OLmen wouldnt really help the run game when we have a back who cant see the holes and get more than 3 yards.

I dont think Tanny or Rex could justify not drafting an offensive skill player in the first 3 rounds, let alone the entire draft.

I still feel we need some depth and a starter in the LB group.

I'm all in favor of drafting a RB, but not in Rd 1. IMO, we will target a RB in Rd 2 or 3. I'm going to keep Stepfan Taylor in any of my mocks for the near future.

The Jets badly need playmakers and speed on offense, our current offense scares no one and it looks like our players are running in mud.

Yeah I completely agree. If we drafting around 10, my target would be an elite OLB prospect. I definitely think we do need a starting OLB in this draft, but also, in order for this team to succeed we need to bolster this offense.

Unless we are draft around 15-20, Im kind of eh about RB round 1. I really think if some of these underclassmen come out (Gio Bernard and Jawan Jamison in particular), this will be a very deep class at RB. Lattimore, Randle, Bernard, Jamison, Taylor, Bell, Ellington, Gillislee... All good prospects. We should definitely be able to secure the future at RB this year.

One major goal heading should be to add play makers on offense.

I'd have to give up on this team if they drafted an RB in Rd 1.
We dont have any decent blocking upfront to open up holes for anyone.
As of this moment, our 1st 3 picks MUST be pass-rushing OLB, G and RT (and in pretty much that order).
IMO, Barry the Baptist is spot on.

I don't know how much longer we can ignore the OL. It is in absolute shambles. Ideally I'd love to see us sign a starting tackle in free agenncy maybe Sebastian Vollmer or Ryan Clady (neither of which may even hit the open market) and we could then use the 3rd round pick on another WR or RB. To me it doesn't come down to justifying anything. Jobs are on the line and as unglorious as a draft it would be ultaimtely drafting and developing OL is only going to make the team better. We also need a pass rusher, the entitre defense suffers because of that lack of a pass rusher.

Hi Guys, new to the message boards! I just don't see how the Jets can go anywhere but offense in round 1?

because offensive talent is found all over the draft

round 1 should be a 3-4 OLB if not then you get a weapon but you trade back unless Justin Hunter or Keenan Allen are available, those are the only WR's I'll pick in the 1st, no RB I would pick in the 1st, nor a TE so its either QB or Pass Rusher

you can say that about defense too. I think the more accurate statement is that for some positions you can find talent for some positions all over the draft. But others positions, the elite players are mostly in the first few rounds

Khaseem Greene needs to be on this Jets Defense. I'm a Rutgers homer, but this guy is insanely fast and smart. Forcing fumbles everywhere.

Another strip fumble! That makes 3 on the day.

Update: Interception by Khaseem Greene! This guy HAS to be considered a top 5 linebacker in this draft!

    1. Jarvis Jones OLB - if he's on the board when we draft. if we are a lower pick like 7 or 8, I would go Marcus Lattimore or Manti Te'o

    2. Jake Matthews OT - hard to gauge if he will fall out of the first round, if he does he's an obvious pick for us.

    3. Andre Ellington RB - this is only if we don't take Lattimore in the first. otherwise Shayne Skov ILB/OLB

    4. Bacarri Rambo S - he can go anywhere from a 2-4 rd pick. he's had trouble off the field, and I doubt we bring Yeremiah bell back for another season.

    5. Michael Williams TE - we need a better TE to backup Keller

    6. Josh Boyce WR - very fast receiver.

    7. Alex Carder QB - I think Sanchez will still be our QB next season. McElroy will be the backup, Tebow will be gone.
