Our O-linemen have to take these defensive linemen's legs out especially on those 3 step drops when the ball has to come out quick. That said Mark has to do a better job finding the passing lanes.
Sanchez stares down his WR so it's much easier to swat it down. That being said. Mark is a dumb ass when it comes to screens. He throws line drives as oppose to a lob.
He did finally throw a good one yesterday to Greene who had a wide open field and decided to lower his helmet and run right into the one guy who was near him.
And what happened on the following screen? Oh yea batted down! A dead clock is right twice a day. A blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile.
This is something that is 100% Sanchez's responsibility. I don't think there's much of an issue with the batted passes on his normal slant throws, thats gonna happen every once in a while especially against a beast like Watt. However, the screen passes NEED to be lobs and there's no excuse for these being hit at the line of scrimmage. Perfect example is what happened against SF. Those need to be cleaned up. And I think they will be. He did not have this problem as recently as mid-season last year. Towards the end of the year last year this began to happen on screen passes, and he's been struggling with it ever since. Also bear in mind that I think a large impetus for it is he knows he has no real threats out of the backfield, and he's trying to get the ball to Shonn/Bilal in space real quickly because he knows that if they don't have a 5 yard radius of field around them chances are its a 2 yard play. Cannot allow that the affect his throws...he needs to adjust. He will. I wouldn't say my confidence is off the charts for Mark right now, I mean 48% speaks for itself...has not been a good year for him so far regardless of circumstances. However, I'm willing to be patient because I know he has a lot of talent and he has a good arm and a good quick delivery.
Unfortunately, correct. This is on Sanchez, and on the organization for seemingly doing little to develop him.
well, pertaining to the 3 Watt deflections, on the first one, he dropped 3 yards off the line. you cant cut him in that instance. on the second batted ball he was engaged, you cant cut him there or its a penalty. the third one he was playing wide as almost a 4-3 DE positioning... and came on a stunt. really hard to cut that, espcially with it being legal usually you cut guys on throws where you know its gonna be a quick instant throw. like a swing screen or slant. its hard to cut a guy on a play where its a 5 or 7 step drop(like the 2nd 2 deflections) or to cut him late in the play, as he is usually engaged by then and doing so would be a penalty, as mentioned. the kerley quick slant that resulted in an INT is a good spot to cut someone if they are coming off the edge, or to seal inside/outside if they are coming in the B gap(where watt was). it was tough to seal or cut watt, since he dropped back. that one is more on sanchez. you HAVE to check your lanes before throwing, especially vs, a 3-4 team that runs alot of zone blitzes.
Sanchez also is also about 1 1/3 inches shorter than the average QB. There are only 3 QBs in the NFL shorter than him (Wilson, Brees, Vick) and 6 others the same height. The most common height seems to be 6'4". Does that 1.33 inches make a difference? It could.
Man, Drew Brees must be terrible! He's had more than 5 batted down by DEs and DTs this year. I guess it's all his fault, right? BTW there is already a thread on this.
The real question is: Did any of Drew's batted down passes result in an INT when he was driving his team in the red zone? Mark's did.
Not to mention JJ Watt who puts on a tipped pass clinic every week is a big reason that number is so high for Sanchez right now. I think he got 3 or 4 on Sanchez.
Dude, you really need to stop throwing facts out there. They get in the way of all these jaded opinions. That is another huge indictment on Sanchez right there.
Where did you come up with that stat? According to PFF he has 8 total, and 3 against the Jets. If by facts, you mean lies. And batted passes are more than just a function of the QB. There's a defender making a play, a QB being read, and an o-lineman not doing anything about the defender keeping his hands up to bat passes.
I read that he had 3 tips in the opener against the Dolphins and 2 the following week against Jax. Either way, the tips came against a QB making his first career start (Tannehill) and a QB who still plays like he's making his career start (Gabbert)....so it's possible telegraphing the throws could at least somewhat play into it.
Every play that takes place on the field is a function of more than one position. Stop making excuses for Sanchez. He threw those shitty passes. He needs to take the bulk of the blame for them. Your attempts to deflect aren't making him look any better. The defender makes a play on every snap between the offense and defense. That has nothing to do with the fact that the QB didn't throw over or move around the defender to make the throw. The blame lies on Sanchez for those passes getting batted down. Deal with it.
So you don't believe the o-line plays a factor in batted passes? I realize Sanchez needs to play a lot better. A lot of people, yourself included, don't seem to realize the Jets offensive issues go much deeper than the guy playing QB. Can we have a discussion without acting like teenagers having to label someone as a "hater" or a "defender"?
Here's Dan Marino responding to a question regarding Tannehills batted passes after the Houston game. But what the fuck does Dan Marino know?
