Receivers they should have kept together instead of trying to sign Nnamdi all damn summer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfWDQxQkvqE
There are a lot of good points in this post. However Jet fans should realize that there are no quick fixes for this situation, because of the 4 situations that Jet fans have now finally come to realize. 1. The Jets have drafted poorly over the last 4 years. 2. The Jets haven't developed or improved the players that they have aquired on the roster. Mo Wilkerson is the only recent Draft pick that I can think of that has lived up to his draft promise. 3 the win it NOW philosophy the Jets implemented in 2008 has left the team in bad cap situation, where any quick fix from FA can't happen. Its not exactly "cap hell, but rather 'cap heck'. A situation where advantageous FA opportunities often have to be ignored. 4. They've come to realize that in Rex Ryan, they have a HC who is a very good DC, but has no idea how to lead a football program. He did a great job creating great defenses using innovative schemes. His brash personality made the Jets relevant nationally and within their own competitive market, and with a lot of good luck, he gave Jet fans 2 very competitive seasons. BUt his coaching style was geared for short term success and its clearly worn off. So now the Jets are left with the wreckage and here is what that have. They have at best a mediocre inconsistent QB that they HAVE to keep for at least one more year. No running game to mention. No WRs to mention. A thin and underperforming OL. No TEs to mention. Think about it. If you were GM, just who on the Jets current offensive roster would YOU actively look to retain? The names may differ depending on who you talk to but I bet the number isn't going to be higher than 4 On the defense you have some young talent on the DL, but except for Wilkerson, all of it is just potential. You have the most expensive LB corp in the league, and its not doing the job, and the best part of your defense, the secondary is thin and also very expensive. Plus the defensive schemes that worked so well in 2009 aren't working as well 3 years later. The league always catches up. Now the Jets have to decide to either pay Revis coming off a severe injury. Continue to pay Holmes coming off a severe injury and how do you replace literally you entire LB corp at the end of this season to build around the young DL group The problem is YOU CAN'T in just one season The job is too big. You have to literally retool the entire offense. Contracts make it impossible to get rid of Sanchez until AFTER next year. You can free up a lot of cap space getting rid of Thomas, Pace, and Scott, but who replaces them? You could justify play Revis anything, but that was before the injury. What about now. Finally you have no leadership. Your so called GM can't pick players. Your HC can't lead and his comment about this being the most talented Jet team of his era, confirms how completely delusional his vision is. OK that's what I see right now in October of 2012. What can I do correct it in the shortest amount of time 1. I fire Tanny at the end of the season and bring in a new GM and football operations team.....and I keep Rex and Sanchez for the 2013 season. 2. Use those 2 years to get my salary cap situation under control, and regain a large degree of salary cap flexibility. 3. The goal is to suck for 2 years (2012 and 2013) Have 2 good to great drafts picking in the top 10 those 2 years and restock the core talent, 4. and get your Franchize QB in 2014 either in the draft or FA. Add selected key mid level FA's with the new cap room 4. Now come 2014 you have a new HC, new QB, and lots of talent to surround them. The circus has left town and in its place is a professional organization dedicated to winning and accountability. Something Jet fans can rally around and be truly competitive with the Pats, but this time on a long term basis. The best part of this plan is that by 2014 is should coincide with the beginning of the inevitable slide of Tom Brady's QB skills. They say there is no gain without pain, and I think the only way the Jets are going to recover from this mess is to endure just a couple of years of intense pain. But what is another 2 years of pain to a fan base who has suffered so long already
Noone wants to deal with the current QB we have on the roster and how awful he is. That's fine. If you want to act like we don't have a shitty Qb then live in your fantasy world. Everyone who deals in reality knows our QB sucks based on what he's shown on the field which isn't much of anything worth mentioning.
Funny how your Freudian Slip already has our being in 1st place as past tense before tonights game. Not really concerned with what Tony Romo has done, since he is not relevant to how our Jets are doing. Oh yeah, again with living in the past, with the 3 playoff games won.
Thankfully, someone who gets it. It's amazing how many people want to divert the attention away from the real topic here. That our QB is a huge problem and we need a new QB along with a lot of other new pieces. Anyone who can't see that Sanchez is going to lead us to a subpar record this year is just wearing their blinders and is living in denial! Anyone who can't see that Sanchez doesn't have the skills to be a good QB in this league is living in denial. There's a lot of areas wrong with this team. However the QB is the most important position on the field. We need to address the most important position on the field as it's one of the weakest parts of our team.
Agreed, I have been wondering this for a while now. I had a feeling we would see more of it when Revis went out. And yes, Sanchez is a better QB than Cassel.
it wasn't a slip, we were heading into this weekend, NE won so right now we are 1/2 game behind them.
Same here -- where is that crazy guys walking around before the snap defense? They just look very vanilla on defense this season.
What I want to know is, who replaces him that you KNOW is better and available? Ups and downs are a given at the position. I still believe, so I'm not jumping ship yet. If for no other reason than to ask, who else?
The thing that struck me watching other teams is this: The Jets have the worst RB corp in the NFL. Time after time I watched RB's break tackles, read their blocking, show some burst and run "angry". Our RB's are slow to the line and can't find a hole in swiss cheese. They go down on first contact, and if by some miracle, get to the second level, they are slow as molasses. No burst whatsoever. No wiggle. No speed. If they were any worse, they would be tackling dummies.
Joe Montana wouldn't always throw 3 yard swing passes to his RB at the ground. Nor would he act like a deer in the headlights, holding the ball too long instead of throwing it away. When forced to scramble, Montana wouldn't hold the ball out like a loaf of bread. Anyone who refuses to acknowledge that Sanchez has nobody but Sanchez to blame for his awful play is delusional. Nobody is talking about results, wins and losses, which are team based - they are talking about the play of Sanchez.
Sanchez is better than Cassel. I know Sanchez is terrible right now, but seriously, have you guys seen Cassel?
Actually, they couldn't be closer. SURVEY SAYS... http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?archive=false&conference=null&statisticCategory=PASSING&season=2012&seasonType=REG&experience=null&tabSeq=0&qualified=true&Submit=Go Here's a tip...look to the bottom of the list.
This is the inherent problem with having drafted Sanchez in the first place: he had a very thin record on which to really judge his talent. You can argue, as others have, that he needs times to develop chemistry with his receivers, he needs a better OC, better protection, time to develop, etc. I think all of these are true to a greater or lesser degree and it may well turn out that not allowing him to have weapons he can really develop chemistry with (like Manning and Harrisn for example) is the real reason for his mediocre performance. But it may just be that he doesn't have it--I don't know. If he had had a significant college record it would have been easier to figure out if these were temporary problems or if they are problems that are just part of his personality and either impossible or terribly difficult to change. One thing I will say, though, is that it is easy to lose confidence with the way the Jets organization has handled things. In another thread I've had a discussion about the Jets 'ruining' Sanchez and while I generally disagree, perhaps this also plays a role in his herky-jerky development.
The beginning of the end? He will be 37/38 after the 2014 season, will have banked $40m in 2013 and 2014 in wages alone - how much longer do you expect him to play for?
