Okay, there's nothing I disagree with above. I should have said I think -- I just figured it was clear that since it was my post, it was just my opinion. But I can see why using the present tense could possibly convey the sense that I meant it to be taken as fact. For what it's worth, and I've said this a lot of times by now, that's not what I meant. I just meant that since his prospects to become a starter, like all seventh round picks before him, are very poor. He's probably going to end up being a career backup. For what it's worth, I am aware of McElroy's career. The truth is, I usually stop watching preseason games before he goes in, but I watched a lot of him in college -- which I'd argue is more predictive than preseason performance, anyway. He's got a really weak arm, he's on the small side, he's not mobile, and he wasn't particularly prolific even in college and even with Julio Jones. My opinion is that he's one of many college quarterbacks that can get by with intelligence and good decision-making in the college game, but simply lack the physical talent for the NFL. I could be wrong, but like I said, the odds are stacked against him. And I'm not a Tebot. I like him better than your typical Jets fan, but like I said earlier in this thread, I'd be glad for him to leave after this season, too. I'd much, much prefer Geno Smith over anyone on our roster. I'm just anti-Sanchez, with the added bonus that I have no faith in any seventh round/undrafted quarterback ever becoming something. It could happen, I just don't plan on it. I also don't really disagree that Tebow can't be a real answer. I mean theoretically if he improved by a lot, maybe -- but he's probably never improving enough as a passer to be a guy you want as your starter. But just realize that Tebow did something last year that nobody drafted in the 7th round has done in more than 20 years. So for as bad as Tebow may be, that is why I still have more faith in him than McElroy. I just think scouting is too good these days to let potential quality starting QBs slip that late. Plenty of terrible QBs go early, but quality QBs don't really slip through the cracks unless there's some extenuating circumstance. Jeff Garcia and Jake Delhomme went to San Diego State and Louisiana-Lafayette. Kurt Warner went to Northern Iowa. They were nobodies playing for tiny programs. They had to go to other professional football leagues and dominate in order to get looked at. Romo went to Eastern Illinois. Cassel never started a college game. Fitzpatrick went to Harvard. Yes, Brady went to Michigan, but I think we can all agree that he's exceptional in every way. He's like Jerry Rice -- you can't make comparisons to those guys, they just defy evaluation. A guy like McElroy has been evaluated a million times, he's been measured against quality competition, he's very much a 'known quantity'. I just don't think there's any way he drops that far if anyone thought he had even a slight chance to be a starter in the NFL.
This is part of what I can't stand about Sanchez. There just seems to be such a lack of accountability. You throw 44% completion and score 2 TDs over 3 games with a mix of crippling turnovers, but you're not worried at all? Don't feel threatened? Really? How about something along the lines of "There are no guarantees in this league, and I'm not getting it done right now. I need to play a lot better than I have been, and that's what I'm going to do." At least acknowledge the fact that you suck and you need to improve, and try to act like that sucking has some impact on your job security.
It would take balls that I doubt Rex/Tanny (or most organizations really) have to start McElroy, but it's the only QB switch that could possibly lead to any improvement at all this year - among those on the current roster.
I happen to believe there is a God. I think it was divine intervention. Some of those wins are unexplainable. Because I believe there is a God, I honestly think God was trying to get our attention. We are a very sports crazed society. Tebow seems to be one of God's missionary's. Nearly every interview TT mentions him. It is just Tim's style. And those games got our attention. Win or lose, 1/2 the nation was watching Tebow on sportscenter everyday. Not only that, but 316 yds passing and 31.6 yards per completion (John 3:16; the most famous verse in the Bible) against the Steelers. For a guy like me that believes there is a God, that is just too many things to call that season an accident. What happens next? I have no clue. Maybe Tebow does nothing spectacular with the Jets. NY may just be a short stop off point for where he will end up next. I just have this feeling that the career of Tim Tebow is far from over.
I respect your right to believe in a divine being. However I am athiest , and yet I know that Tebow would better than what we have now. Come on Rex put the kid in. Go Jets!!!
The next week vs the Pats, He was 9 for 26 136 yards, 13 yards rushing on 5 attempts and 0 touchdowns.....God was busy that day?
God doesn't guarantee wins for Christians. Our pleasure is not always what he wants for us. Then people would worship him for the wrong reasons. His concern is over the state of our soul.
You're somehow surprised that a thread that starts off with this: Discusses Tebow ??? Are you similarly shocked to find yourself wet when walking in the rain, jumping into a pool, or stepping into a shower ?
This would probably be the best possible outcome for the Jets this season. Either that or Tebow comes in and pulls another 6 or 7 wins out of his ass and leads us to the playoffs. Either way, it beats the hell out of Sanchez going 6-10 and keeping his starting job for next season.
I'm not agreeing with you on the God intervening in games stuff but you missed a few , when Ben threw his InT it was 3rd and 16 and also the steelers time of possession for the game was 31.06 minutes ................I even think that there were even more 3:16's that popped up that game .....so yeah for someone inclined to believe in signs I can understand why they would ......because it was kind of weird .....
The television rating for overtime was 31.6. I don't believe in any of that stuff, but yeah -- I did think it was a funny coincidence.
That's right , man it goes on and on.....ok I looked it up time of possession was 31:06 by steelers....you can't make this up LOL http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=320108007
