Didn't Kolb get hurt last year then Skeleton took over? Just looked it up. Kolb got turf toe, Skeleton took over for a couple games. Kolb came back in, got a concussion or had symptoms of a concussion and missed games so Skeleton came in again. Then Skeleton won the job this offseason, then got hurt and Kolb came back in. Very different scenario, I don't think it compares at all.
No it's not. Kolb was brought in to be the starter and lost his job due to poor performance last year and offseason. But him being benched did not "ruin" him. That is the point. a) Kolb was the starter b) Kolb lost his job c) Kolb is not ruined d) if Sanchez gets ruined by being benched, he is weak e) Sanchez does not deserve to be benched with a 2-2 record
I'm not aruging if it ruins Sanchez or not. I'm arguing the Kolb/Skeleton in season changes were made on injuries, not performance. It's a different scenario than Sanchez/Tebow. One involved injuries, this one thankfully does not currently. I don't think you can compare the two. I t's not like the Cardinals willingly shuffled QBs back and forth, they were forced by injuries in season and decided in the offseason to switch it. Also I believe Kolb started preseason game 1 and got hurt too? They had a rash of injuries to the QB position.
Skelton winning the starting job in the preseason means that Kolb lost that job. I.e, he got BENCHED Yet, he's playing pretty well right now and doesn't seem to have imploded.
Ok. I mean I don't think switching QBs because of injuries is similar to switching QBs because of performance. I don't think you can point at the Cardinals and say look they flipped QBs back and forth, the Jets can do it too. Besides the whole injury thing, there is the whole talent at the skill position on that offense thing. A WR who will get open no matter the defense/QB. Very rare ,only Him and Calvin do it consistently. Andre and Marshall do it inconsistently. I don't think it will ruin Sanchez, but it leaves the Jets in a very realistic position that they just wasted a contract extension and a trade in the offseason and have a complete overhaul to show for it. I think the CS would rather ride Sanchez (especially now at 2-2 still) and say ok he doesn't work, now watch Tebow. This makes sense, so obviously the Jets won't do it. They probably will start Tebow for a half, switch to Sanchez for a quarter, go back to Tebow. Then start Sanchez next game, decide McElroy should start the second half, pull him for Tebow and then go back to Sanchez.
Didn't that happen in the offseason? I responded to this "Arizona bounces back and forth. If one isn't getting the job done, they aren't getting the job done. It really is as simple as that." They don't willingly bounce back and forth. It was injury, so Skeleton comes in. Starter healthy, starter comes back. Starter gets hurt Skeleton comes in. That's 3 changes no based on a QB not getting it done, but because of injury. Then there is one change of QB not getting it done in the offseason. Then this season there is one change of a QB because he got. They aren't bouncing back and forth because a QB is playing poorly, they only did that once and not in the season, in the offseason they did. They bounced back and forth mainly or 5/6 times because of injuries, not because a QB wasn't getting it done. The majority of the time they switched QBs it was because of injuries. Any time they switched QBs when the NFL regular season was in play was because of injury. I guess I'm talking nonense, but again the QBs in ARZ aren't bouncing in and out based on their play. That happened ONCE. The change that happened this season and last season happened because of Kolb turf toe, Kolb concussion, Skeleton ankle/foot/leg (don't recall). It's different with the Jets, also much different because the Jets FO is supposedly on its last legs where the one ARZ isn't according to the lack of reports from there, and the whole surprise factor.
Totally false on what basis? Just because you think Sanchez has the worst supporting cast ever doesn't make it so. RGIII's starting running back is a rookie that was drafted in the sixth-round. The only receiver on his roster that has ever had a 1,000 yard season is Santana Moss, who is 33 and had 580 yards receiving last year. He's also currently #6 in receiving yards on that team. The receiver with the most yards receiving is Leonard Hankerson, who had 160 receiving yards last year. Of RGIII's top 5 receiving options, 3 of them had fewer than 300 receiving yards last season. Andrew Luck's starting running back is in his fourth year and has never reached 700 yards in a season. Four of his top five receiving options had fewer than 150 receiving yards last year. The only established skill position player on that offense is Reggie Wayne, who is 33. The year prior to Cam Newton coming to Carolina, Steve Smith had 550 yards receiving. Brandon LaFell had 470. They ranked dead last in both points per game and yards per game. They had both of their current starting receivers on the roster and healthy. They had the same RBs and FB, although DeAngelo Williams missed some time. The only significant addition they have made was Greg Olson. That offense is entirely about Cam Newton. Before he got there, they were awful. Tannehill's #1 receiver is Brian Hartline, who has never had 650 yards receiving in a season. There is not a single receiver or tight end on the roster that had 600 yards receiving last year. Their #1 running back was hurt last week and left the game in the first half. He played hurt this week and ran for 67 yards. Their backup running back is a fourth round rookie. Of Bradford's top 5 receivers, only one has ever eclipsed 700 yards receiving in a season -- Steve Smith. Smith had 124 receiving yards last season, before joining the Rams. They also have the worst OL in the NFL. Bradford has been sacked the second-most of any QB so far this season, and Stephen Jackson is averaging 3.3 yards per carry. None of the above have an established weapon the quality of Santonio, and the only offensive skill position players taken higher than Hill by the above teams were Brian Quick, who hasn't played, and Coby Fleener. It was a mistake to include Locker in the original list -- I should have put him below, with younger QBs outplaying Sanchez that do have some weapons. Tennessee has a good amount of weapons, even despite Chris Johnson sucking it up. But you've still got a roughly 50/50 split of QBs younger than Sanchez outplaying him with equivalent or worse surrounding talent, and outplaying him with greater surrounding talent. It's also probably important to note that Sanchez sucked last year, too, with a greater talent level.
Sounds a lot like every fan-base talking about their terrible QB. Eli was awful in 2007. Something clicked in the playoffs, he won the Super Bowl, and he's been elite ever since. I don't think I want to sit around waiting for Sanchez to stop being terrible because once upon a time, another crappy QB became good. For every Eli Manning, there are 100 Joey Harringtons. If anything, Sanchez is getting worse, not better.
He hasn't been elite ever since. He became elite last season. The Giants struggled going playoffs, collapse, collapse after that Super Bowl with Eli throwing 25 picks in one of those years.
Good Points. Some things I disagree with though in no order -Pierre Garcon and Santana Moss vs Santonio Holmes and Stephen Hill is pretty even because lack of experience of Hill. -The Panthers are still pretty bad overall. They went 6-10 last year. They are more exciting. -Not sure why Tannehill/Bradford are on this list. The most interesting thing is if the Jets were more talented offensively last year? Holmes/Holmes cancel. Howard>Hunter marginally? Slauson and Moore got worse slightly but Mangold is healthy and Brick is better. Plax looks better than Hill. We haven't had Keller this year so far. Holmes is now out. And Sanchez sucking last year is harsh. He sucked last 3 games of the season. Besides that he had an up and down okay year.
He threw a lot of picks because they had to lean on him. He's been top 10 in passing yards in 3 of the 4 years since he won his first Super Bowl, and top 5 twice. Also top 10 in yards per attempt in 3 of those 4 years. Calling him elite might've been stretch, but since that Super Bowl win, he's clearly been a very good NFL quarterback -- there was never any doubt that he was a quality starter after that. It's also kind of an irrelevant comparison, because unless Sanchez wins a Super Bowl this season, he's falling behind the eight ball as it relates to Eli.
Quality starter I agree with. Yeah but you see how thin of a line is what is going on in the NFL. The Giants were a WC in 07 and then went on to win playoff games by 10,4,4,3 points. Such a thin line, but hey they did it and it gave Eli something to lean on. You wonder how everything could have been different last year if we snuck into the playoffs. But we didn't and here we are. Or things would have been different in 09 if we didn't slide in and then get a favorable Cincy matchup
It doesn't matter that it happened in the offseason Again, the relevant fact is that Kolb was brought to AZ to be the starter. Regardless of everything else, Kolb LOST HIS JOB AS THE STARTER. I.e., HE GOT BENCHED because Skelton outplayed him in the preseason. It didn't "ruin" him though as he has come in and is doing fine at QB right now.
I don't really disagree with your points. I think the Garcon-Santana comment could be fair if Santana played a bigger role in that offense, but he looks done thus far. He's been a non-entity. If he ends up being their #2 receiver, I'll agree with that point. And the Panthers are definitely bad, but Newton is outperforming Sanchez by a mile. That defense is terrible. Tannehill and Bradford are there because they're out-performing Sanchez so far. Their teams suck, but they're putting up better numbers. And last year Sanchez ranked 22nd in yards per game, 23rd in passer rating, 27th in yards per attempt, 28th in completion percentage, and turned it over more than any other QB in the league other than Josh Freeman. He might not have been the worst QB in the league, but I don't think it's too harsh to say he sucked.
I'd also add that Carolina has Steve Smith who is still one of the best WRs in the game Tannehil and Bradford are on the list because both are doing better with equal or even less, compared to Sanchez.
This is a very simple concept to understand, which is why I stopped trying to argue with him. He will go down in a blaze of glory before he just admits he was wrong.
