I agree. And I already tried using QB Rating as a stat with the clown that made this post, but he still harps on the 4 stats he's basing the argument on. I just felt the need to make him look silly one last time.
I posted a link that shows tebow has a lower passer rating. Both rank near the bottom. Still interested in splitting stat hairs or cherry picking the ones that are favorable to Tebow?
I'm not sure why you're dismissing the stats he's using. INT%, TD%, and yards per attempt are 3 of the 4 components of passer rating, which is the most popular statistic used for evaluating quarterbacks. QBR is a terrible statistic that was arbitrarily invented by ESPN last year. According to QBR, Tebow's performance against the Steelers was the best playoff performance as far back as they began calculating the statistic (2008). And according to QBR, Andrew Luck has been the best quarterback in the NFL so far this season. It's just a mess of a metric.
not to split hairs, but you posted a link that showed Sanchez had a higher QB rating than Tebow last year, career Tebow is higher than Sanchez. I would hope that a qb with 40+ starts would have a significantly higher qb rating than a guy in his first 16 games, but Sanchez is only 6 point higher than tebow last year....it doesn't speak highly of Sanchez. Technically Cowboy is correct, Tebow has a higher qb rating than sanchez
I will back off the argument then. My only thought would be if 2 QB's have similar stats you go with the one with less starts as they should theoretically be less far along their learning curve. I will step away now
what? how about using the official one of the NFL . Tebow 75.2 http://www.nfl.com/player/timtebow/497135/careerstats Sanchez 72.9 http://www.nfl.com/player/marksanchez/79858/profile EDIT********** Ok I figured out the problem, you are using 2011, I was posting career. OK fair enough.
You're attributing a lot of things to me that I didn't say. I never got caught up in Tebow pro or con because I really don't give a shit about Denver or anyone else besides the Jets. I don't play fantasy football, I have no rooting interest that isn't green and white. So once he became a Jet, like anyone else, I go by what he's done and said here for this team. What's he's done that I can see is put his ego aside, accept whatever role he's been asked to take on--special teams, blocking, H back, whatever, and execute all of them reasonably well. Now we're in a situation where we're losing some of the weapons we thought we had, namely Holmes who was our best one. We need Keller back, we need a running game, we need someone who can do something on offense, which is where Tebow comes in. If he were a standout at any one position he would be starting at that position for probably for the team that drafted him. But he can play football, he can give opposing defenses headaches in preparing for what he might do. The key is we need our coaches to step up now and use the assets we have. We don't have the luxury of popping him in there like Brad Smith now, he needs to be on the field because in my opinion he's easily one of the best 11 offensive players we have.
I select last season because it povdes the fairest comparison. It's the most current complete season. We aren't concerned about Mark's performance 4 years ago. It would be like using TO career stats to make a case to sign him. I'm not arguing Mark has good stats but Tebow is just as bad. So how does this stats argument make any sense?
As a Steeler fan who lost an embarrassing game to Tim (the catapult) Tebow I can only say that anyone who thinks Tebow is a QB is nuts. You could apply the same logic to virtually any tight end in the NFL being given the chance to play QB: 1. Defenses would struggle for a while to figure out how to defend him. 2. Big, athletic, hard to tackle. 3. Looks like a paraplegic throwing the ball, so you never know where it's going. Tebow is probably an awesome guy, good person, stand up guy, blah, blah, blah.......he ain't no QB
Well I think the point they were making is that, if their passing statistics are similarly awful, then why would you err on the side of the guy that is putting up worse numbers this season than last and has zero running ability? If they're both going to be bad passers, I'd rather at least go with the guy that can run and may still be improving. But more than that, I'd just like to see organizational acceptance of the fact that Sanchez is not a productive QB.
Tebow isn't a starter this season that's why I didn't include it. And equally bad stats isn't a convincing argument. Do you think you would get hired for any job with this premise? I'm just as bad as him why not hire me instead. Huh?
Huh? I know Tebow isn't a starter this year, but Sanchez's numbers are even worse this year. You can't act like that's not a factor. And it's not just equally bad stats. It's the fact that those equally bad stats represent Sanchez's strength and Tebow's weakness. Tebow's not just equally bad as a passer. He's also vastly superior as a rushing threat, and many would argue that his intangibles are more desirable. That's the point. If Sanchez isn't going to be a significantly better passer, then he's a worse overall player -- because passing ability is really the only thing Sanchez is bringing to the picnic.
Sanchez has shown flashes guys! flashes! this is reason enough to not start Tebow even though Sanchez has been abysmal and is clearly not going to lead this team anywhere; remember guys he's shown flashes! FLASHES!
why exactly would comparing one guys 32nd through 48th starts in the NFL to another guys 4th to 14th starts be fair? players are expected to get better as they go along
I'm staying on topic that OP stats argument isn't convincing. QB job is to pass the ball and qb rating is calculated
their passing stats are basically the same, who do you think is more likley to improve over last years stats, a guy with 50 starts already, or a guy with 16?
If the Jets start Sanchez this week he'll have no one to throw to and no running game to support him. He'll do really bad and then Tim Tebow will start for certain the next week. Why throw Sanchez to the dogs here? That's exactly what the Jets did with Kellen Clemens back in 2007, they threw him to the dogs behind a horrific o-line then blamed him for not being more successful. One thing is for certain, it has sucked to be a quarterback on this team since Vinny was the #1 guy.
