None of you were saying this when Rex brought us to the AFC championship game two years in a row, Jet fans are a fucking joke, Everyone was praising Rex then everyone loved him running his mouth when things were going great. Look at Tom Coughlin and the Giants, They missed the playoffs for two staight seasons and then went on a run to the Superbowl during a season when they went 9-7. The bottom line is Rex made the Jets relevant again and he is what our owner Woody Johnson want's in a coach. Rex will be here for the next 10 years. I think Tanny will end up staying the GM and we could see Sparano be the scape goat next season if this season goes down hill. It doesn't matter what the fan's want, If Tanny can right his wrongs next offseason with more cap space then ill be ok with that, Jets fans are the biggest backstabbers and flip floppers in sports history. I still belive in Rex but we have a talent problem, and I don't feel Sparano is getting enough blame in all this. If Shotty was still the OC and we lost the way we did to the 49ers then everyone would be blaming him.Im not impressed with Sparano in the least bit, His usage of Tebow has been a discrace, his playcalling is medicore at best
It's unlikely a new GM would want to keep Rex. And I like Rex. The Cowher love always baffles me. If he coached in New York, he would have been fired a couple times before he ever won a Super Bowl.
Coughlin had already won a Super Bowl before missing the playoffs for two seasons. He's earned the benefit of the doubt. Rex can't get a pass in perpetuity, just because we had success in 2009 and 2010. He admitted to losing the team last year, and thus far, they look even more disjointed and poorly coached this year.
Dude, you probably already know this but your posts have become diarrhea. All you do is sit back, look for quotes that are anti coaching staff or anti GM and make a stupid little remark like the quoted one. Do you actually think anything about the Jets is good right now? Do you think we have a god team? A good GM? A good coach? Seriously.
someone tell me exactly what does Tannenbaum even do? he manipulates the cap and contracts very well? We are still in cap hell every year and cannot sign any impact free agents.
I absolutely agree that Rex and the FO have combined to misjudge talent. No arguments here. Hell Rex told us when he got here he thought he could turn Gholston into a player. This coaching staff/FO do have a tendency to overate players and I think even buy into a little bit of their own BS at times. I also think Rex is a bit stubborn in his philosophy as well, we didnt need to draft another corner in 2010 when we took Wilson, we should have looked to find pass rushers which is something that was a problem in year 1 with Rex and looks to still be a problem in year 4. But I just am not ready to give up on him after one potentially terrible year. Lots of HC's go through it. I'd like to see how the team responds under him first. Im not going to kill him on the drafts as much because Tannenbaum has to take most of the hit for them in my opinion. Tannenbaum picks the players, not Rex.
Problem with this is the role Rex plays in the draft process. rex has gotten HIS first round pick each year he's been here, and with the exception of Hill and Ducasse he's gotten his second round pick he wanted. don't underestimate the role that Rex plays in the draft process. This doesn't excuse Tanny, but if your going to blame Tanny of for the last few drafts then you must also blame Rex.
For argument's sake, why could a head coach not assert his preference in personnel over a GM who is not a football guy? We obviously are not in the draft room but it seems it's common knowledge that Rex "got his guy" when the Jets took Connor. So are we to assume, like the Hill pick, Rex has never got anyone he wanted? Why are the Jets not giving Rex "his guys" for his f*cking system then? Do they not respect his wishes? If that's the case, it seems he's a lame duck anyway. Just an opinion.
When does our beer-gutted GM's free pass expire? Jeff Ireland almost looks like a decent GM compared to the hack we have. I'd take Tannehill in a heartbeat over scrub #6.
Yes to everything. I like Rex a lot Im just worried a new GM would want to fire him. Losing Rex would be a mistake. Cowher is so overrated I never understood it. New York has zero patience with coaches.
ur joking right, the Dolphins haven't smelled the playoffs since Penington went there, Jeff Ireland is arguably the worst GM in the league and I wouldn't want him anywhere near this team on any level, ask Fins fans how they feel about Ireland theyve wanted him gone for years
I hardly think it's a given, just making a point that it's not out of the question he could be kept on board. Really? Maybe you just focus on certain things because I really don't believe what you're saying is true. Maybe take a closer look at my post history. The comment you quoted wasn't even meant to be "pro" anything. If you think that I think the Jets have a good team you obviously haven't seen any of my posts today other than the one that caused you to respond. I do think Rex is a good coach that needs to grow and I think it would be a mistake to get rid of him at this point.
Tanny is definitely gone. He's been exposed as lacking the qualities to properly evaluate college talent and how it will translate into the Pros. Our team depth is definitely lacking because of Tanny's bad drafts. I kind of lean towards giving Rex a clean slate after this year with a new GM/Head of Football Operations in place. However it's highly unlikely any new guy coming in would keep anybody from the old regime.
Rex would make a good defense coach for the Jets but I don't think that's ever been done before. Demoted = another team. Like JetsNation said new GM will want a new coach. Truth is he's not a good head coach.
 And Tannehill doesn't even have a real number 1 WR/TE and he is exceeding my expectations with only 4 games in...
Why stop at Tanny? You said it yourself. There was talent here and throughout his stay here. The biggest problem is their both tied to Mary Mark. That decision alone is enough to get rid of them both. 1) Our entire team was built around a cb. 2) We loaded up on old vets. Who were/are overpaid. 3) Our drafting has sucked. 4) Next year this team should be gutted bc of our cap situation. 5) Rex has lost and let this team go. Especially on offense. Plus we have the absolute worst QB/RB duo in the league.
I personally get the impression that Woody likes Rex to the point that he would require any new GM to take Rex on for at least one more year. Everyone pointing out that a New GM likely wouldn't want Rex is forgetting that it's all up to Woody and he openly admires the coach. I just don't see him dumping Rex without giving him a shot with a different quarterback and/or GM.
Funny you say that because we felt the same exact way before Sanchez's game before the Saints his rookie year. I wouldn't trade Sanchez for Tannehill
There is a lot of truth in what you said, Woody does love Rex. I think it would come down to what GM would be agreeable to those terms. So lets say a Cowher says I'll only come if I bring in my own staff, I think Woody would give in. But to a lesser known and younger coach Woody would probably insist on keeping Rex. Even though Woody might love Rex, if this season goes really bad, I think it will take the decision out of Woody's hands. If you saw Rex last post game, all the wind has been knocked out of his sails. Press attention cuts both ways magnifying loses even more than wins. If the Jets become the joke of the media, I could see Woody cutting ties to Rex to distance himself from the embarrassment.
