I kind of agree, but the ground can't force a fumble, right?

    *sigh*

How can it be a fumble when his knees touched the ground? The rules I posted is clear as day. Once the runners knees touch the ground the play is dead. What are you guys trying to argue?

What league do you watch? The rule you posted is about giving yourself up! He never gave himself up. He slipped and fell.

Giving yourself up is dropping to a knee or doing a baseball slide.

In the NFL the play IS NOT dead just because your knee hits the ground, unless you were tackled or have been touched.

Remember the Eli Manning play awhile back when he dove for a first down and left the ball on the ground? He never got touched, and the other team picked up the ball for a turnover.

AN injury, fumble, and defensive TD…all without any contact. He practically threw it to the defense.

There is a lot of pain in the NFL – doesn’t mean you lateral the ball to the other team.

Remember the catch Cotchery made two years ago after pulling his grion? That's the difference between a guy who's tough and a guy who isn't.

    Yep!

He could have threw it out of bounds. Heck he could have just stayed down and got touched down. Instead he acts like he is a 7 year old playing smear the queer with a bunch of high schoolers. Chuckes the ball and ducks. Its like he said "heres the ball - dont touch me".

I gotta admit, even if I were playing a casual game of flag football and blew out my ankle...I'd probably still hold onto the ball till final whistle cause that is what I was always taught to do. Another reason why the play looked freaky...no professional football player ever does that!! They are pros! They got here because they know how to play football and finish plays..no matter what!

Guys that are mental midgets like Holmes make Pop Warner football plays like that. It was a disgrace to professional football.

The ground can't cause a fumble IF the player has been touched or is being tackled. If he's untouched, it is a fumble.

What is all this "ground causing a fumble" crap anyways. The ground didn't throw the ball away - Holmes did.

he got hurt, he clearly gave himself up. This is what we were told when the league agve the Giants thre win in AZ last year on a similar play. Holmes was down and gave himself up, no way that should have been a fumble.

I agree with you, if it had been say the Jaguars or Panthers or the Browns that got screwed last week we'd probably still have replacement refs. Nobody gave two shits when the real refs screwed us on that same rule twice against the Packers allowing them to make the playoffs and then win the SB.

I also think the Epps play was much more obviously wrong then the Tone play. Did Epps even get 2 feet down? He clearly never tried to advance the ball.

He did not give himself up. He threw the ball away before giving up.

Junc It was a fumble. I don't know/care about the Giants play last year but even if it was similar it just means they messed up THAT call not this one.

Holmes didn't give himself up, he gave the F#%ing ball up. He was barely on the ground before he threw that thing up in the air. If they would've not given SF that touchdown it woulda been a terrible, terrible call. Take off your green glasses.

^You'd think that a player going down with an injury should have a special rule where it is considered giving himself up. It's not like he's planning on getting back up and running. It's really an issue with the rules being unclear about that. There's no reason that shouldn't be considered giving oneself up, if the QB is allowed to take a knee. Fix the goddamn rules, Goodell. So much for player safety... you shouldn't be punished for an injury.

Holmes was a complete bonehead, though. I know he was probably in pain, but that's no excuse to just hand over a free 6 points. Epps' fumble was just as bad. You don't just cough up the ball because you're hurt. All he had to do was not throw the ball when he went down. I've defended Holmes on here a number of times, but that play was completely stupid and shows lack of regard for the team.

What's wrong with our turf? Why were there so many people slipping and falling yesterday?

Am I the only one that saw Holmes grab his knee and not his foot??? I think he faked it. If MRI shows nothing then that's basically what happened. He is just a bad human and I was glad and am glad if he is done!!
