This is the shit that got us screwed in the first place. We have so many holes at so many positions that we shouldnt be trading up and just select BPA (unless its for a QB). If by week 8 we are 2-5 or so we should really contemplate trading away players like Pouha, Devito, Holmes, Keller... Hell, if we could trade away Revis for a 1st and a 3rd or something (Im not even sure we could get that much considering his injury, although many come back from ACL very close to 100%). We should try and get as many draft picks as possible and build an actual team. And this is obviously assuming Tanny isnt here, because if he is, we might as well just cross off another year.
I don't know if trading away every good player we have is the best option. Then all we are left with is the remaining crap players, and a bunch of unproven rookies. I do however, agree that trading down is a good idea, we need the depth.
Well like you said move the guys we can move and get some game changers. Take this draft and off-season and rebuild the offense, the next draft do the defense and then go BPA from that point on We're not good now and wont be good next year or the year after, we're going no where fast and just slowing down the inevitable
With the talent we have on offense, no QB will succeed. I hate taking Rbs in round 1 but if Lattimore falls to us, he's got to be considered. I'd love Te'o in the middle who is everything Bart Scott wishes he could be in the passing game along with great run stopping ability so he'd be fine. Rambo may be an option if Landry/Bell are not coming back....and we'd need an OLB who is fast around tackling open field RBs and can also apply sacks too. In My Order: S(If we let Landry/Bell go) LB(OLB or MLB) RB WR TE(If Keller goes, push this to arguably 3) RT CB That's if I had my way drafting with just 7 picks and none of this trade up nonsense Mr. T does. Coming away with Manti Te'o In Round 1, Barrcari Rambo in round 2 and Le'Von Bell in round 3 is a start for us.
QB, it's the most important position in any sport and ours sucks. Honestly how long are people going to defend Sanchez for? Last year when he sucked everyone said "give him one more year, it took Eli a while to break out and Schotty sucks!". The excuses for this idiot are endless, it really boggles my mind. Sanchez flat out sucks, he's not a good pro QB and he never will be. You'd have to be a moron or not know anything about football to watch him play and defend him. I've had enough of watching his woe is me face as he makes dumb pass after dumb pass and continually fucks over our team. We have a lot of holes, yes, but QB is the most important position in any sport and ours sucks. Period.
Linebacker of some sort. We're WAY too slow there. then a safety and tackle. Howard seems serviceable but definitely address it with a mid to late rounds pick. and there aren't any good qb's early.
If Rex Ryan is still the HC, probably defense but an outside hope at RB. If he isn't, who the hell knows. Hopefully RB.
well we are 2-2 and likely looking at a below .500 record at the end. are we gonna pick around #12 or around #6. thats a big difference. the first round is gonna likely be active again next year so a higher pick is going to attract interest from many teams. but so what - the jets have/will have several spots to fill and its time for them to change draft philosophy and gather as many day 1/day 2 picks as possible - the first 3 rounds. gotta cut bait with most of the higher salary stinkers and move on. an extra pick in each of the 2nd or third rounds could do wonders for depth at certain spots down the road - assuming u make a smart pick. the last thing they should do is pick one supposed cant miss pick while continuing to do late round and free agent patchwork on the rest of the roster.
If Tanny is fired, Rex will not be the HC. No incoming GM will accept the job if he cannot select his own coach. Rex has a good shot to be D-Coordinator though if he chooses to accept it. He's stubborn and his pride will get in the way of that though.
I know this may sound like a crazy idea since everyone like to decide what to do based on a small sample but how about we wait until the end of the season when we can make a better decision with a greater sample size
Why do people think Matt Barkley is the answer? Dude throws some boneheaded interceptions with the best WR corps in college and prob a top 10 RB also. Team is stacked, Barkley is overrated and I don't want us drafting ANOTHER USC QB. I'll take Geno Smith though
The FO has got to stop screwing around with our draft picks, enough of this trading up. IMO, one of the reasons we have next to zero talent is they constantly trade away picks. This year, when we needed depth, we trade away a 4th and 7th (tebow) and a 5th and 7th (trade up 4 spots for Hill). That is 4 players we did not get. It would be one thing if it was a one time deal, but they do it every year. Teams that are consistently winners build wisely through the draft, NE, NYG, Pitt, Balt, etc....teams that do not respect the draft and frivolously trade away picks, 2 picks to create a QB controversy? Or 2 picks to move up 4 slots in th 2nd rd? Oakland and Wash seem to do the same and what have they shown for it over the past decade. Looking back quickly, since 2009 we have drafted 21 players...in the same time NE drafted 40, Pitt 35, NYG 31.
Cam Newton and RG3 have set a new precedent for rookie QBs. Geno Smith looks like he might do the same, if he continues to have a Heisman-worthy season. I'd be willing to tank if it meant finally getting a legit, exciting, franchise quarterback in next year's draft
man thats a simple stat about the number of draft picks since 2009 but it speaks volumes to the football cliff the jets are approaching. thanks.
That would be a pretty quick death. Stop injecting logic. Most Jet fans don't know how to use it anyways. Cam looked great in that 36-7 drubbing against the vaGiants. Suddenly RG3 came back to earth. I'm done defending Sanchez but even Peyton Manning needed 6 years to look like Peyton Manning.
100% agree and it's a point I make often when talking to friends about these big school QBs. They get basically all-star teams to throw to. All positions are the best of the best from high school. It's hard to judge these QBs based on their collegiate merits because of this. The Jets fell in love with Sanchez because he comes off intelligent and he's charming. Plus he showed them signs of the physical characteristics an NFL QB should have. I do not fault the Jets for buying into Sanchez because he looked promising. But it is clear now, he just doesn't have any exquisite tools to be an NFL QB that can win in spite of bad players around him. If Sanchez was in Houston or San Francisco, he would be a different player.
