I'm posting this NOW so if the expected happens, this won't seem like sour grapes.

But the overriding theme from NFLN and ESPN today and the last few days has been that this is the LEAST TALENTED Jets team in Rex Ryan's 4 years -- and it's not even close.

Quite simply, the Jets have missed out on too many high-draft picks both in the 1st round going back to DeWayne Robertson and then through the MT drafts.

Just look at Ducasse, Ghoulston, etc, and other picks since 2008. With the salary cap flattish, there's no way to miss out on that many picks and still stay competitive.

We don't have a single impact or potential Pro Bowler in our Front 7. Stopping the run -- something that except for a few years has been a mainstay since I've followed this team 24/7 since the late-1970's -- is now a major problem.

Terry Bradway went back to scouting -- you wonder if MT might want to go back to capology or the like rather than have responsibility for the actual draft.

You are correct. The drafting has been GOD AWFUL the last 5 years, in particular. Absolutely horrible. Jets haven't produced a good draft class since 2006/7. That's an eternity in the NFL.

Which is why the Jets have such trouble finding impact players.

This is a complete overreaction. The Jets drafts have been far from horrible. This isn't to say they've been great, but they haven't been terrible.

Disagree.....if Coples is a bust (and so far, it's looking like that)....then that is 3 busts out of your Top 2 picks just since 2008.

    That's TERRIBLE.

I'm not saying you can't have 1 bust (Ghoulston), but you can't have 3 from your 1st/2nd round picks in that short a time span.

First off, Coples has played 3 games so far (and in those games he hasn't even played more than 50% of the snaps). To even mention him in the 'bust' category is nothing short of moronic.

Gholston needs no saving, he's one of the biggest busts in draft history. Who is the third bust you speak of?

Like I posted in other thread, Jets drafted total of 16 guys in the past 6 years from the top 4 rounds. (Out of possible 24 people.) If you count in busts, you get less than 16 quality players. (Anybody remember Schlegel? He was a 3rd round pick. Jesus.)

So... Jets have been 1. god-awful in scouting and 2. god-awful in drafting consequently. Now add the trader Mike's penchant for trading picks away - and you have a rag-tag team that is in serious need of talent influx nearly all over the roster. Jets are about good 5-6 quality starters short currently, to say the very least.

im very much on the fire Mike T band wagon...

the jets outside of a couple of years, have had some shotty drafts thats for sure...they really need coples/hill/davis to pan out. this last draft will prove to be critical in remaining competitive in the next few years...cap is strapped so FA splash can't be expected.

coples/hill/davis (or 2 of the 3) need to emerge for us at some point in the near future (next year or year after) as big players for us IMO.

I think the Jets are handicapped moreso by the small amount of draft picks than by our poor quality in selection.

According to people here who watched Ducasse closely in preseason, he has made strides. Hope so, because it's imperative the Jets build through the draft. I think the FO realized the that this past offseason, although it was at least probably one too late. Theyre going to need a few pleasant surprises that unexpectedly fill would be holes.

Cant argue this. Our handling of the draft over the last 5 years has been terrible. Period.

Yep, we have to have the worst drafting out of almost all the teams the past 3-4 years. Its amazing how people still have their jobs.

Hasn't necessarily been the terrible drafting, but rather the lack of picks.

2007 Draft - 4 picks (least of any team)
2009 Draft - 3 picks (least of any team)
2010 Draft - 4 picks (least of any team)
2012 Draft - 4 picks (8 picks, but half of them have been cut already)

There is a gross lack of appreciation for the draft by Tannenbaum and his cohorts.

T-Bomb trades the picks away - and now there is a LACK of appreciation for the draft? How does that work?
