UPDATE: The Jets signed CB Darrin Wells to the practice squad. To make room, they released rookie WR Jordan White from the practice squad. White was a seventh-round pick. Don't know much about Wells, but I liked Jordan White. Well, maybe not so much surprised as disappointed in the White cut.
Its Darrin Walls not wells. The guy is decent in man cov has good hieght and ball skills. Dumb as a bag of bricks in zone coverage but the kid can catch. If im correct the falcons let him go recently. Was better in college then he will ever be in thenfl The more i think about this guy he would be better then lankster and could eventually prove to be a better fit for rex's man cov system then wilson might.
....I cannot believe we released Jordan White. Ridiculous. This kid is going to be a decent NFL player one day. Watch him get picked up by the Fins.
that was a dumb fucking move what the hell? you dont see me getting pissed about this sort of stuff a lot, but jordan white was someone i was pretty excited about.
Fins, Bills, Pats... it doesn't matter. What matters is the Jets are so reliant on defensive backs that the loss of Revis means they throw good players away at a record pace. And also that their personnel department is incompetent. Which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, but continues to be.
Its hilarious to see the intellengentsia enshrinining jordan white in canton along side wes welker. Can't make this stuff up.
It's hilarious to see someone insulting the intelligence of anyone after obsessively bashing Nick Mangold, one of the best football players and centers to ever wear a Jets uniform, bashing him for two straight days, for skipping two days of training camp to see his sister compete in the London Olympics. Just because he saw a picture of Nick holding a beer. And no, to answer your unasked question, you are never, ever going to live that down.
yes saying jordan white was a player i was excited about is easily equated to claiming him to be a hall of famer. if you want me to be specific about it, he was a big time receiver for his school. he has great hands, good feel for the position, and was smart. he could have been a good possession receiver for the team, but now we will never know.
Wasn't White on the practice squad meaning if somebody wanted him they could have signed him at any point?
yeh, but he was still on the team, now he can be signed to another teams practice squad though, rather than have to be on the active roster for however many weeks, which makes him much easier a grab for another team.
White isn't that big, isn't that fast, and has an extensive injury history. I still liked him in the draft as a late 7th round pick, and I am a little disappointed he hasn't impressed enough to not be in this situation. But it doesn't seem likely he's a huge loss. And if no one else signs him to their practice squad. They could bring him back down the line for all we know. I'm disappointed it didn't work out, but for a 7th round pick that didn't make the team out of camp and wasn't exceptional in camp, it's not a huge deal. No other team thought to sign him to its roster. They would have to commit to him for 4 games, but still. It's certainly possible another team signs him to its practice squad. But it's unlikely White is more than a role player.
not sure exactly but most of the 4-7 round pics are adios. So....maybe trading those lower pics to move up in rounds 1-3 ain't such a bad idea, seeing how they just get cut anyway.
Jordan White was waived and retained to the practice squad, and then picked up by another team. Not quite the scenario you are painting here.
Makes you wonder if White is more of an attitude issue. They have now waived him twice. Talent wise I agree with those upset that he is gone ... but there has to be a reason for it. You do have to step back and think that 149 catches in a season in college should at least project to 50+ catches as a possession type in the big leagues. I still think the kid will be able to produce ... he just might need to grow up some first. ** Please note, the "growing up" part is pure speculation on my part ... needed to make that clear before I get roasted for claiming knowledge I don't have.
He'll probably be back at some point. Right now they need depth at CB. I'd bet that White comes back when Revis goes on IR. It's not like the guy was doing anything. He was on the practice squad, even if another team puts him on PS, we can still sign him back if we really want. This is a good short term solution. Now we have a few options at CB.
He'll probably be re-signed after this week. I believe that I read somewhere that I a player spends more then 3 consecutive weeks on the PS that they will use up a year of PS eligibility. This is why the Jets constantly drop, sign and resign players to the PS throughout the year.
