Rex didn't make a SB guarantee, but he should've chosen his words more carefully as ESPN is going to take it out of context. I think he's not ruling out Revis until after the surgery. Once the surgery occurs, the decision will be made to put him on IR or not.

It's week 4. Why are we flipping out about not signing a replacement street free agent? Everyone available has been cut for a reason. Most of the people who are available now will be available next week.

I would imagine Revis is eventually IR'd, but if the injury is somehow less serious than they thought, then it was smart to wait.

Either way, it's nothing worth yelling about.

It's silly to hold on to Revis for 2 reasons. 1) Now when we do eventually IR him, we're going to get stories about "Have the Jets given up?"; and 2) On the miraculous chance that we do make the Super Bowl and Revis is ready to come back for that game, do we want him playing? I love Revis as much as the next Jet fan, but if we make it that far without him, we are most likely better off not inserting him back in off of an injury for 1 game.

The Eagles did the same thing with Owens eight years ago. He comes back in the Super Bowl and delivers an MVP performance

I don't think you can trade a player who's on IR...........

I KNOW you can't 'cut' a player on IR...and that's exactly what Tanny is considering. We all know Revis is most likely gone soon, and cutting him now may save like a bizzilion dollars on next years cap.

Anyone know what Revis' current contract is as far as getting released?

EDIT: Ooooops! did I say that out loud???? Sorry.

    Continuing that thought:

Keeping Revis gives us ZERO for the remainder of 2012.
Keeping Revis gives us for 2013 a once great DB recovering from Major Knee Surgery. We may only get 60-70% of 'Revis Island' (Think Joe McKnight).
Keeping Revis gives us nothing in 2014 as he will be adios.

Releasing Revis now MAY save us most of his 2012 and all of his 2013 salary. I don't know.

But if we stand to save $6-$10M on our 2013 salary cap in exchange for one season of Revis trying to come back, maybe Tanny's thinking the 'unthinkable'. Cut bait and run.

    That would explain a lot.

Edit: but if we did this to Revis we'd NEVER get a FA again so this may just be one of my darker moments of thought.

Cutting Revis would be detrimental to the cap.

Is that dead money on the books one way or another? Trust me, I ain't saying we've postponed IR while Tanny explores possible trades or even contemplates releasing him. But it would explain way more than 0.000002% chance of contributing to a SB game.

Of course it's important and especially if they pick up a defensive player. Rex went out of his way in his PC yesterday to say that McKnight doesn't have a clue what defensive plays are or how they are called which is why he has him attending those meetings all week and he is on the team. Do you think a stranger coming in off the street will just know the system overnight? They should have IRed him on Monday and brought in a replacement this week.

How about trading him? His 2013 contract is a joke. There may be several teams willing to roll the dice for a high draft pick.

Like everyone else I'm just trying to understand the whole ' IR postponement' thing.

I know the second Revis is IR'ed Tanny's hands are tied.

MAYBE Rex really does believe in a 0.0002% miracle.

Or MAYBE there's something more sinister at work.

not that i believe the jets are going to trade revis.

but they did just say "we want revis to be a jet for life." usually when the team says something like that the player is gone within days or the coach is fired lol

You guys on here are a bunch of clowns. No way Revis is traded or let go as a FA not while Rex is still the coach of this team. Revis will be a Jet for life. Players these days are coming back faster then the past from a torn ACL.

Unless this has something to do with his contract, Its the most moronic move that I have seen thus far. This is a season ending injury period! Its bad enough he'll loose a step when he comes back but we're going to hurt the team by keeping a spot open all year . Oh and this is on the assumption we reach the Super Bowl. Id would love nothing more then to make it to a super Bowl , but you simply do not do this ...Ever!

I couldn't agree with you more btw. I see this as a lose-lose-lose.

    1. If he doesn't recover we lose a roster spot.

    2. If he does recover, he could play and hurt himself, possibly either ending his career or permanently limiting himself for the remainder of his career (eg-making him less mobile, slower, etc.)

    3. He recovers, plays, but likely has modest impact. We will have held open a roster spot and risked our best player's career in the off chance that we make the Super Bowl--WITHOUT HIM--and all for bringing him back after having missed the entire playoffs and the vast majority of the season. There is no way he'd perform at a high level. So we'd be taking a huge risk for a modest reward. That would be the BEST case scenario. I consider that a lose if only because there is a good chance he plays like crap after rushing back to play.

The only way this pays off is if he recovers, suffers no further injury short or long term, we make the super bowl, and Revis is able to return at a high level and play his ass off in the SB. Now tell me, if this was money--your money--would you invest it under these circumstances? Would you take this bet? If so, I'll take the other end of this wager because I think this is a fool's bargain.
