We lose our best player and we move our 3rd string RB to another position on defense to replace his body. We go a whole off season and don't replace the RT, backup RB, 2nd WR, blocking TE and we bring back 3 LB's that all suck ( Bart, Pace and Thomas). We are 10-12 million under the cap. Does anyone see a trend. The stadium is not sold out, they reduced the tickets in the UD where there is no PSL and the visitor side between the 20's is 75% empty. He's obviously not bringing in the projected revenue and never will so Tanny and Rex have been told no more new salary. So we are now the NFL METS excpet we don't suck , we are average at best. And after the season, Woody will blame the GM and coach and they will blame the QB and we will be back to square one within the next 2 years. For you younger folks, this is Jets 101. Whenver you make the Championship game, its all downhill from there for 8-10 years. Here we go.....
Stupid thread. Woody has spent a kabillion dollars since he got here. Wilpon rat-holes his money up his asshole. Woody wants to win. He may be stupid and doesnt realize he needs a real football guy in here running things instead of a bean counter but he wants to win. Wilpon is possibly the worst owner in sports. Its ridiculous to compare the two.
completely ridiculous and inaccurate comparison. the hate for woody around here is unfounded. fact. Since Woody has been the owner this team has been competitive year in and year out in exception of 1 maybe 2 years and sniffed a SB appearance in 2 years from 2000 - 2010, which is more than the majority of teams in the league can say.
As a Mets fan you are a fucking idiot if you think Woody is anything like Wilpon. Woody didn't lose a large sum of his money and cut a ton of payroll. Woody tries to resign his best players and wants to keep them here. Wilpon is as bad as owners get. The guy couldn't care less about the product he puts out on the field.
I laugh at the fans that complain about Woody. 1960-1999 pre Woody(40 seasons) 8 playoff apps(20% of the time) 6 playoff wins 20 seasons under .500(50% of the time) 10 seasons at .500(25%) 10 seasons above. 500(25%) most consectuive playof apps? 2(68-69, 81-82, 85-86) most consecutive non playoff seasons? 11(70-80) 2000-2011 w/ Woody(12 seasons) 6 playoff apps(50%) 6 playoff wins 3 seasons under .500(25%) 1 seasons at .500(.08%) 8 seasons above. 500(67%) most consecutive playoff apps? 2(01-02, 09-10) most consectuive non playoff seasons? 2(07-08) all this done w/ a dynasty team in the division but yeah Woody sucks!
I am not talking about the past, I am talking about this year. We have holes all over the team and I don't think all of a sudden Tanny became stupid. Woody has tightened the purse strings and its going to get worse. Is he Wilpon yet, no, is he gonna be. Yes, if we win 6 games this year, even less people will go to games and Woody tightens a little more. Listen, I always defended the guy but facts are facts, we have holes all over the place and have made no siginificant moves since training camp and that has never happend before. Live in La La land if want to but its plain as day to me. The party is over
We are saving some cap room because we need it for next year. Cap space carries over to the next season now. With people like Revis wanting a new deal we could use a few extra million next season. Just because we have holes in our team which all teams do does not mean Woody all of a sudden is as bad as Fred fucking Wilpon. We had huge holes at safety and signed Landry and Bell.
Are you nuts? When is the last time the Mets went to consecutive NLCS? (equivalent of what the Jets did in 09 and 10) Woody wants to win, Wilpon just cares about placating old dodgers fans
'99 & '00 but in a sport where higher payroll teams have an advatage his teams have made just 1 postseason since despite outspending the NL in most of the years.
Until the Madoff debacle, at least (they outspent most NL teams). That's as far as the owner's direct influence (and as far as it should be, since meddling owners can just mess things up further). I don't love Wilpon either but for all his faults the most blame you could assign him for the Mets woes before Madoff blew up in his face was having a poor eye for competent general managers.
Back on the original topic, the Jets have hardly been eating money (just think abut all the topics moaning about our overpaid LB corps plus Holmes and Cromartie's salaries :breakdance Personally I think having little to show for the drafts between 08 and 2010 is something we're seeing come back to hurt badly now.
This couldn't be further off base. Say what you will about the PR stunt bringing in Tebow, that's fair game. Aside from that, the checkbook has been open a lot with interest in improving the team. FYI, maybe not the OP but guaran-god damn-teed there would be a thread from someone calling Tanny and Woody an asshole for signing a scrub CB on the free agent market if they did bring someone in.
Woody closed the check book for 2012 and beyond. Its a new era under Woody. Everyone we signed were 1 year contracts and very low. We did not sign any mid-level FA's to help us. We never let the cap stop us before, I don't care what we did 3 years ago. I am saying going forward we are going to go on the cheap because Woody is hurting with ticket sales and PSL's....... no doubt about that
Believe what you'd like I guess but the numbers don't lie. The Jets are going to need to be very creative with money to get guys re-signed come next year. Adding a few players to bolster this year's team weren't going to help in achieving re-ups for the current guys next year. There's no way you can use this year as the end-all of whether Woody is cheaping out or not. This isn't baseball, these aren't the Yankees that can go out and throw money at every free agent that comes along.
Clearly. His worth to the team thus far has come in the form of a five yard gain on one of the most obvious fake punts I've ever seen. Still can't believe that worked.
he does a great job filling it too, I heard they had 5500 people watching a game last week! That's impressive to finally break the 1,000 mark
