I am hoping that this "forces" Rex to reevaluate his scheme and maybe he can get better use out of the rest of the defense (including Coples and D-Davis).
Less contractual leverage for Me-vis, Jets' chance of winning the SB this year prior to the Revis injury was 0.000000000000000000000000000000001% anyways, and more PT for Kyle Wilson. Optimism.
I think we had a decent shot this year before he went down. That team that bitch-slapped a half-decent Bills team was still in there despite a couple weeks of ugliness all around. Hill's hands will probably be markedly better late in the season. Coples should be beasting by then. We would've been in the hunt at 2-1. Now we don't know if Revis will ever be the same or we resign him and he goes down again and single handedly destroys the franchise. But yes his compensation will be lower to match all of the potential woe. Finding it hard to be optimistic. Oh, plus our dumbass fan base could potentially chase either Rex, Tanny or Sanchez out of town if things get ugly enough. All three guys are capable of winning which is a lot more than I can say for the probable downgrade they'll be replaced with. It's a sad state of affairs but maybe we'll get lucky and it'll work out.
Singlehandedly destroys the franchise? That's a bit dramatic don't you think? The Jets will gameplan and scheme to account for the loss of Revis. If they sign Carr that would be a solid option in his stead. We'll be okay. Other teams are losing bigtime players too.
The only thing covering up how shitty our LB's are was Revis. He held the whole defense together. You can't scheme around that we'll just be doing the best we can to not get embarrassed by good offenses. If we resign him and the ACL recurs yes it could ruin the franchise. The team is built for a 1-5 year window when Brady retires or starts to decline and our recent draft picks have developed while Mangold Revis Brick and Harris are still at the top of their positions. Revis was the biggest part of the equation and now ?
Two things must happen in order for the Jets to survive "life after Revis." 1. The defense must generate a consistent pass rush. 2. The offense must be able to generate a running game to keep the defense off the field. And really, 2 is needed when Revis is playing.
I have a lot of hope that without Revis back there, our young talent on both sides of the ball will finally step up to fill the void.
I keep believing that this team will turn it around and start playing better but each week makes it harder and harder to believe. If your not wearing the blue and red of the Giants you can't play like shit most of the year and then turn it on and win a Super Bowl. Maybe/Hoping this will be the wake up call from the coaching staff to all the under performers on this team that its time to pick it up.
I don't get this pov. The reason Revis might well have less leverage is the same reason why it will be harder for the Jets to assess his worth, which is that it is more speculative going forward how much to expect from him. It cuts both ways.
higher draft pick, you right. but in full honesty, our defense isn't destroyed totally without him. now we will be blitzing more which is either feast or famine. this also benefits kyle wilson and maybe rex can come up with some crazy ass scheme, who knows. if not, high draft is coming our way
They lost at Buffalo last year, Buffalo's offense is firing on all cylinders since the loss to the Jets, so why not?ats_suck:
We're not talking about a devastating injury (see: Mendenhall, AP tearing multiple knee ligaments). ACL recovery, like Tommy John, wonderfully high/positive rates. Injury puts Jets in a better position (we still think Revis is valuable, Revis still thinks Revis is valuable, other teams won't be willing/able to out-bid the Jets for a player coming off an ACL tear. Given how complicated Revis' contract is, it's likely that this injury will either save the Jets $ or delay Revis' opt-out by a year).
I don't know if the draft pick will change significantly. My opinion of the Jets post-Revis is that we will still beat the teams we're supposed to beat and lose to the teams we're supposed to lose to. Luckily, our schedule isn't full of pass-heavy teams so we can *maybe* survive the likes of Houston but I don't think we have any chance of beating the Pats at all this year. I do, however, hope that this injury isn't used as an excuse for Rex to spend another 1st round pick on defense (other than an OLB). We need offensive weapons and O-Line in the draft.
ummm, this statement is basically a contradiction... you are essentially saying in one sentence that Revis’s injury (ACl is not a big deal anymore, I agree) but then you indicate that the Jets will have more leverage because he had the injury?
