Dear Jets fans, So we've lost Revis for the year. I know what you're thinking. We're cursed. Season's over. Pack it in. I implore you not to have that same old Jets mentality. Is Revis' injury devastating. Yes. Is the season over? No. Here are three reasons why Jets can survive this injury. #1 In both years we made it to the AFC championship, we suffered catastrophic injuries to Kris Jenkins, who at the time, and when healthy, was one of the top 3 defensive nose tackles in the league. He was a terrifying force and the heart and anchor our defense. In 2009, we lost him midway through the season, along with Leon Washington, our electric running back. In 2010, we lost Jenkins in the opening game to the Ravens. However, both times we endured, and made a deep run into the playoffs falling one game short of the Superbowl. One person does not make a defense, nor a team. We have one of the best defensive coaches in the league, and a core group of players who have been in this defense for a long time. Teams survive major injuries every year and still make the playoffs, at times to people far more important than a quarterback. It pains me to say, but look how well the Pats played after losing Brady a few years ago. Luckily for us, we have the luxure of replacing a #1 CB with another #1 CB in Cromartie, who on any other team would be a #1. Kyle Wilson slides into the 2. Next man up. #2 Revis is a freak of nature with unparalleled skills and dedication. He is the best CB in the league and arguably one of the best defensive players in the game. Yet, the same can be said of Terrel Suggs, another who is arguably the best LB in the game and on the top defenders. I don't hear anyone saying the Ravens season is over. Yes, I know what you're thinking, they have Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Those cats are old and past their prime, and not the stars they used to be. We have enough skilled players on this defense to pick up the slack (Cro, Landry, JB, David Harris) the same as the Ravens do. Granted their offense is superior to ours; however, Sanchez steps up in crucial situations (see playoff stats and record), and it will take time to our offense to gel with all of the new parts, and young players getting their reps. Once they gel, they should be good enough to roll with what the defense gives them. #3 Revis is a LUXURY. We forget this seeing his brilliance week in and week out. Who else has a Revis? No one. So to say because we lose Revis we can't make the playoffs, well then no team can make the playoffs because we are the only one who has him. Without Revis we are still a very good defense. Elite? No. But very good. And better than most defenses. Maybe we fall from top 5 to top 10. Still good enough to get into the playoffs. So, buckle up and don't fall into the woe is me same old Jets routine. The season will go on no matter what. We are 2-1, 2-0 in the division, and in first place. Pats look weak. Dolphins are better, but still a joke, and we all know Bills will flop come the second half of the season. The division is still there for the taking. 1 game at a time. J-E-T-S, Jets! Jets!! Jets!!! For better or worse, get ready for more blitzing now with Revis gone. That will lead to more sacks/pressure but also lead to more big plays that lead to TDs. We go from a conservative defense because of Revis to one that will go feasting or end up having a famine. Now whether you like that or not is up to you.
It's simple. Cromartie needs to play like a #1 CB and Wilson needs to realize his potential as a #2. Landry and Bell need to stick to TEs, because we're fucked against teams like SF and NE.
Dave, the Jets were going nowhere WITH Revis. It's all about the airhead you have taking snaps from center. He's not even average.
Today when I logged on and read that he had torn his ACL I died a little inside. This guy came in week in and week out with a passion that few have ever had. He played at a high level of performance every game and was on his way to being one of the best corner backs of all time. Now I think next season Revis will be back to his old self, but last years and this years team doesn't seem to have the intensity or attitude that it had back in 2009/2010. However, Revis brought it every game and took on the challenge going one on one with the best receivers in the NFL. He wasn't the fastest, tallest, or strongest but he came out with fire in his eyes and dominated every one of them. This next week will show what kind of team we are. Hopefully, Revis will be there to show the other player, especially the younger players, that if you play with a passion and intensity that like he did that anything is possible. Don't listen to what the media says the Jets can and cant do, it doesn't matter. What matters is what the Jets believe in themselves and each other. The Jets need to come out and show that this team isn't going die without a fight because they know #24 wouldn't. Let's do it for the fans, lets do it for the Jets, and lets do it for #24. lmao at comparing losing Kris Jenkins as being the same thing as losing Revis, lol not even in the same ball park talent wise. Revis is the best in the league , Leon Washington and Jenkins were average especially Jenkins at that stage of his carrer
I'm not making a direct comparison, rather a more broad one. When Jenkins was on the field that year, he was dominant. I remember that sack he had in the first game against Schaub, just picked hm up and body slammed him. He consistently stopee the run at the point of attack and put pressure on the qb in passing situations. He was at that time, the second best defensive player we had. When we lost him in the Raiders game, I was like, "Well, that's the season." Yet, we made it to the AFC championship. Point is we've had injuries to major players before and survived. Though Revis is our best player, it is somewhat similar to 09, and definitely not completely different.
Revis is our version of Rodgers, Brady, Ware, Megatron, Pat Willis He's our superstar, elite player. Our whole gameplan changes when he's out and I just dont like our chances without him
Had the Jets gone out and looked good on either side of the ball so far this year, sure they and i can live without Revis.
Kris Jenkins, at the time, was one of the most dominant players at his position. You can absolutely compare losing Kris Jenkins to losing Darrelle Revis. Both regarded as the best at their respective positions. Do I think that losing Darrelle is more damaging than Jenkins? I do because he is regarded as the best defensive player in the game. As for our season being over, I'm not buying it. Our biggest problem still comes from the other side of the ball. I trust Rex Ryan with the defense. It's what he does best
Jenkins would be a much larger loss than Revis. Jenkins was a man amung men on that defensive line, and was the only time we could consistantly get a pass rush without blitzing. Jenkins dictated how the game went week in and week out for several players on our defense, on the opposing offense. Revis, as great as he is, is only relivant for 1 player on offense, and no others on defense. (Game within the game for Revis)

I'm not overly optimistic about our chances w/o revis. It's a very tough break but I will still be here to support the team
The problem is that the pass rush remains non-existent. Nada. None. With no pressure, and without Revis locking down the top receiver, the Bradys and Shaubs of the world will carve Rex Ryan's vaunted defense (pat. pend.) into guava jelly. Add to that an inept offense that gets the d gassed by the third quarter, and you can see a world o hurt coming down.
Well as usual here people are looking for a way to see the bright side. It should be interesting but the TEAM needs to adjust w/o REVIS period. Lets see what transpires.

yeah i appreciated it the post. i look at this two ways. i honestly thought during the dolphins game that the season was over even with revis, we are just too ineffective on offense. but then i look at this a positive way. losing revis could be a huge smack in the face for this team. it could result in people like kyle wilson, cro to finally step up and play big. i dont know lol
