Cam Newton? Robert Griffin III? Don't hear you complaining about Carolina and Washington tailoring the offense around their strengths, as has been written and talked about multiple times in the NFL media. Because it's Tebow. End of story.
If he is a liar, then so is Tom Brady and a few hundred other NFL players interviewed before or after their NFL game each Sunday who say a lot of words but not much meaning. The media wants players to bare their hearts and souls, and the public like yourself has come to expect that as well. It ain't gonna' happen, and the players can either be vague and non-specific when asked a question, or they can say "I'm not going to tell you what I really think". Which route do you think is the least controversial?
Totally agree. The standard of conduct for Tebow just keep getting raised higher and higher than any other human being on the planet. If he told the truth, he'd be outing his coaches as liars. If he protects them, then he is called a liar. He is expected to conceal his coaches' strategies. All players do it. But now, all of a sudden this is dishonest behavior when we see it every single week in every single interview.
ummm the big problem is both of the are both already ahead of tebow in the QB department... you know the one where the guy throws the ball? I think Tebow can be a very nice addition to the Jets as long as he is used right and only sparringly, other wise they get tape and he will be come less effective. Tebow should either be put in to run and keep defenses honest or as a decoy. Did you guys see what happened when a passing play popped up? Rex ran Sanchez out there lickety-split and he looked like a big steaming pile of dog crap from the 2nd quarter on. Tebow doesnt throw good enough to have an entire offense predicated on his abilities and he may never but now is certainly not the time to put that kind of pressure on anyone.
How's the decoy thing going to work again? If you put any WR on your roster on the field, he will be a better WR than Tebow. That goes for TE and FB as well. I would hope they threw to Tebow if I was a defender because he's not experienced at the position.
1) Last I checked, Tebow had a better winning record as a starting QB last year than Cam Newton, and RG III has played all of 2 games. 2) If they are already both ahead of Tebow in the QB department, as you say, then there is LESS reason, not MORE reason, for their NFL teams to taylor their playcalling to be more similar to the college style spread option systems that Newton and Griffin played in college.
I must admit I was hoping Tebow would come out and run some more plays after he was initially brought in. After Sanchez took the hit to the head he looked like a total space cadet the rest of the game. That goes for Greene too. I was hoping to see more Tebow and Powell, but apparently we didn't bring these guys in to play football.
QB's contribute to wins, but wins and losses a cannot be attributed solely to QBs as you are doing here. Anyways, I like how Tebow is being used currently. It lets him see the field and keeps teams off balance. What I would want to see if there is an expansion to is Tebow as TE formation. Just to see how a defense would attack lets say if Tebow motioned into the backfield from the TE position. The confusion it could cause for a play would be nice to see. Also, not sure why Greene is in the Tebow package. Powell/McKnight are much better backs for it. You could see that when McKnight turned a broken play into a first down. The only problem I had with Tebow was handing off to Greene. Obviously I had a slow motion replay, but I thought Tebow had numbers if he held onto the ball there.
Tim ran the play he was told to run. The Greene run was a bad call. Maybe even a sabatage play. A couple of our moderators commented about how they immediately recognized the stupidity of the call.
Can you please tell me how, exactly, my pointing out Tebow's W/L record as a starter in the NFL, compared to other young NFL QB's, is attributing the wins solely to him? Amazing the lengths some Tebow haters will go to in order to discredit him....
Im pretty sure it was a read play, and he should have kept the ball because of where the saftey was coming from.
Just for the record Displaced fan is a level headed intelligent football fan, definitely not a hater, lets not start labeling people because then tebow fans are doing the same thing that the anti tebow cult does.
It's a read play, right? So Tebow can hold onto the ball or hand it off given what he sees. Like I said, I had the vision of slow motion instant replay. Brad Smith rarely handed it off when we ran plays like this. He always loved taking it invetween the tackles himself for some reason. Because you used it as your sole comparison between the 3 QBs to argue Tebow is at their level. You said his W/L % was higher than the other 2. You are assigning W/L to the QB's not the teams.
Sorry, but what he said in this instance was not level headed. It is a commonplace way of comparing the success of NFL QB's, and it has been for eons. It has never meant that the QB was the sole reason for that success (although in some instances, that case could be made), and it wasn't meant that way when I said it, either. In most cases, the QB is the most important factor in the success of an NFL team, so they rightly get the majority of the credit when things go right and frequently a majority of the blame when things go wrong (even if they don't always deserve it, in either case).
I concede. You may be correct and if your view of the play shows Tim had a chance for positive yardage by keeping the ball, then Tim made an 'out of character' decision and obviously a dumb one. It is true that Tim giving the ball to Greene on a sweep, as slow and non evasive as Greene is, instead of running to an open lane is not a good choice ergo my feeling he must have been told to do it.
I don't agree with the premise, though. He's making a specific read, not just what he thinks he wants to do. And his read does not include whether some guy on the right side of the line will whiff his block.
Meh, 2 out of 3 positive plays isn't 'out of character' Credit goes to the steelers by forcing him to make a bad decision I say.
