I hope you're right, because if the Jets come home with a 1-2 record you are going to start hearing calls for Tebow and things could unravel here pretty quickly. And then follow it up with losses to Houston and San Fran? Then we're looking at 1-4? We' re talking mayhem here... absolute mayhem.
1) The Jets were also weakened. Why would you specify that the Steelers were weakened but not the Jets? 2) It was a 10 point game in the 4th quarter. That's hardly non-competitive. 3) Where do you get the idea they "wimped out"? It's one game against a tough opponent on the road in September. Imagine if they lost to the Cards at home? lol. There's a ton of season left, the offense should progress throughout the season as they start to feel more comfortable in the new system. I'm confident Rex/Pettine will get the defense straightened out. People need to wait for more than 2 games to bury the season.
I think we have a good foundation but we have undervalued the draft a little imo and we have some bad contracts. Tanny has hopefully learned to value the ol more and not to bring in guys like holmes. We need a threat at olb who can get after it. We have needed this for ten yrs it seems. Next yr we probably lose keller due to tight cap so we need a replacement that comes cheap. Pace, thomas, and scott all gone next yr. Davis and dowtin/mauga all progress hopefully. slausen and moore likely gone next yr. Ducasse fills one spot maybe schlauderaff the other? We need upgrade at rb. I dont see us filling all these holes next yr but maybe we can have a huge draft and fill 4 needs. Combined with some contract restructuring maybe we bring in two free agents who can make a diff. If sanchez shits the bed this yr i believe he is gone as well. By week 8 we should have a good feel for our immediate future.
The game was not as close as the score indicated at the start of the 4th quarter. Then the Jets really laid down and gave up that 10 minute drive in the 4th and it was all over. How do you respond like that in the 4th quarter when you need to get back in the game? And the wimping out part has to do with having a minute left in the half with 2 timeouts and they just take a knee rather than trying to get into FG range to tie it. What sort of quitting attitude is that? We could argue this back and forth but I think you are cutting them too much slack for this game. There is no excuse for being embarrassed on nationwide tv, no excuse at all for that.
We're a good team, which, like almost every other good team, has some flaws and weaknesses. How we address those weaknesses will determine how successful we are this season; but there's no reason why we can't contend for the division, and make the playoffs.
Strangely though, I think the Jets have a pretty good chance of having a good record and making the playoffs this year. If they can get to the break at 4-4 they could have a final record as good as 10-6 and make it as a Wildcard again. To make it to the break at 4-4 they'll have to beat Miami twice and Indy. More than likely they'll lose to Houston, San Fran, and the Pats. This will put them at 4-4 at the break. After that, they have some very winnable games on the schedule. They could very well be 10-6 after Week 16. But the question remains after sundays loss to Pittsburgh, "What then?". What if the Jets face the Steelers in the playoffs again? Can they beat them? I'd say no. What about Denver? Can they beat Manning after Manning already beat the Steelers two weeks ago? Probably not. It's the "Probably not" that's bothering me right now.
Quoted for truth. Last year's Super Bowl champs got trounced at home by the Redskins and the Seahawks. It's an any given Sunday league. Overreacting to one bad loss is just silly, and you'd think that Jets fans -- who have seen such wild swings between their team at its best and its worst over the past few seasons -- would know that better than anyone. Apparently not.
Plain and simple. We need CAP ROOM and PICKS for this team to continue to develope. I feel we have some nice core pieces in place (Brick, Thor, Sanchez, Hill, Tone, JK, Wilk, Harris, Wilson). We need them to continue to develop as well as get younger on the OL, LB (we will do after this season with Moore, Pace, Thomas, Scott all likley gone). *The Revis situation will be the key to the offseason however* (I would like to see how this season plays out first though before he is extended). If he stays, we are limited to who we can bring in as we have soo much $ tied up with our DB's, two O line-men, a Slow MLB, and a malcontent WR. The real question is where do we find the $ to sign FA's (for replacements depth, something we lack) and the ability to stockpile draft picks to continue the developmet and depth of personel...?
The game was close throughout the second half. As much as the defense struggled they did just enough to give the Jets offense a chance to get back in it.
Well, at least the OP got the Douche part of his name right. Holy fuck its week three and the entire division is 1-1. The fucking Pats just lost to the Cards. Calm the fuck down people.
There are a whopping TWO teams in the AFC w/a better record than the Jets right now and none of them are in the AFCE. OMG THIS WEEK IS A MUST WIN, WE CAN'T BEAT GOOD TEAMS, WE GAVE UP WE'RE DOOMED!!!!!1!!1
I guess that's how some slapdick giants fans were feeling early on last year too....We crush the dolphins this week and all is well in Jets land again!..And we will crush the dolphins!
OP, remember that coach last year that was gonna get fired mid season because his team was doing so poorly? You know the one that won the Super Bowl. It's week 2, relax and see how it plays out. Hell, the Pats lost a home game to the Cardinals. It's hardly panic time.
We were in no way shape or form a SB contender in 09 or 10 either, but we were a game away in both years. Look back 12- or so years at who has appeared in the SB. Who had money on the Bucs, Seahawks, Cardinals, Panthers or Saints to win anything after two games? How about the Giants last year after week 10? One team almost always comes out of nowhere to make the SB. 20+ years ago it was always 1 of 4 teams winning, lately anyone has a chance to make it. ...but if we lose to Miami, we're screwed. :rofl2:
Its the second game of the year lets not start doing this shit. Like i said last week the negative attitudes on here need to just stop, I knew this would happen it always does after a loss. We win and it's like Super Bowl Champs! We lose and we are suddenly the worst team in the league. Pittsburgh is very good people. We will be playing our best in November and January Lets just chill and see what happens.
So after reading this post, I am shopping for a new team. I'm thinking the Eagles because they wear green and are 2-0. But I just don't like those running QBs. Any ideas?
