I havent seen anything mentioned about this at all. Most is either the LBs, WRs or Sanchez. This run offense has been pretty mediocre so far (and thats being generous), and the only glimpse of hope I see in sight is Powell miraculously playing great. Powell looked decent on some of his carries, and if Cumberland could block, he could have a nice TD run on that outside left run. Greene continues to be not good. His vision is putrid and he can not break a tackle. He had one decent run for 9 yards, where he got hurt (again). Its beyond frustrating knowing that every 1st down, we are going to run the ball, and get 2 yards. This may be a bigger weakness than our WR's. Thats how bad it is. If we were the Packers, Giants, Saints, Pats, Lions ect, our RB core would be perfectly fine (although aside from maybe the Packers RB's I would rather have the other teams backfield than ours). We are a ground and pound team and can't get more than 10 yards on a traditional run play. We cant average more than 3.5 ypc. I hate this bullshit about how dedicated they are to Shonn Greene. Feed the fucking hot hand. If Powell or McKnight is outplaying Greene, which isnt hard to do, give them the ball.
I wholeheartedly agree with all of your points; particularly about Greene. We need to see if we have an in-house upgrade, or draft his replacement next year.
I want to see more Powell. Maybe it was him just being a switchup, but he looked good. He supposedly is a good blocker too. That can leave Greene healthy sand fresh for the end of season and we can unleash him. If McKnight didn't have fumbleitis, would be a good project.
If they used all three running backs, plus some Tebow sprinkled in, the running game wouldn't look as bad as it does. I'd really like to see most of Greene's carries in the 3rd or 4th quarter.
We are not good on offense. Other than drafting Hill (and he's not gonna be good for a few years), we have done NOTHING to build this offense. Tannenbaum is done after this season when the team goes 7-9 on a bad schedule.
I love Powell he's a great 3rd down back for us hell if we had 2 Powell's I'd be hype I hope we get Stepfan Taylor, Le'Veon Bell or Michael Dyer in the draft and add them to Powell and McKnight, who's being underutilized, Greene is shit
In theory Greene is the Jets best running back. The wildcat really wants a couple of good runners out there so that the defense can't just key the strong safety on the QB and take away the extra man advantage. Mostly the wildcat has two good running backs out there. On the Dolphins it was Ronnie Brown in the shotgun and Ricky Williams as the option. The Jet's wildcat was always a little bit strange because Brad Smith carried the ball like 90% of the time and it was some funky end around reverse when he didn't.
I like Greene as part of a platoon but he's not good enough to be a feature back. Powell needs more carries moving forward.
Shonn Greene is hot trash and will be out of the league in 2-3 years max. Dude sucks at pass blocking too.
Honestly, I have more frustration with Tannenbaum than I do with an of the RB's. I dont know how they left this position alone this offseason. It is a CLEAR hole, at a MAJOR position of focus on this offense. We can try and run the ball 35 times a game, but only getting 3 ypc isnt doing anything. All offseason I was banging the Doug Martin drum, and honestly I think he would have had a huge impact here for us. We would have had to draft him in the 1st round, but at least our run game would be pretty much solved. I still think that was high, but at least the Bucs got a true work horse 3 down back- something we dont have. Even adding Benson would have upgraded this offense. If we dont add a RB in the 1st 3 rounds next year I would be pretty shocked.
I like those 3 also, but dont think Dyer comes out this year (or at least thats what he said). I also love Marcus Lattimore- a true 3 down back that can do it all and has GREAT VISION.
Yeah, that was beyond a questionable call, especially with Rueland or however you spell it lead blocking. Every time I see Greene run outside I cringe. I remember someone here said Greene had good speed to get around the edge... I think it was Vilma... LOL.
Greene is so slow its absurd for him to be called a running back, he's more of a running into his linemens backs
What annoys me the most about Greene is that it seems like every other drive there is at least one play where he gets up slowly as if he's hurt. For a big "bruising" back he can't seem to take hits very well. It's almost to the point that I expect him to miss some time every single game because of injury.
crazy how the jets consider themselves a running team yet they were content to go into the season with greene as their starter. did they not watch last year? he looked slow. never broke a long run. no explosiveness. right now there's no reason why powell and mcknight shouldn't be getting more chances. mcknight had that one good wildcat run and he actually made a defender miss. a running back making a defender miss? WHOAH. greene never does that.
I really would also like to see of Powell as well. He seems to hit the holes faster is more shifty and appears to have much better vision then Greene. As a few others have pointed out, Greene may be suited to come on later in the game when the defense is worn down. At that point Greens's style of running over defenders would reap large chunks of yards.
