Now that the draft is done and over and the season has begun, can we say our first round pick was a wise choice? We had the opportunity to select a few highly rated defenders with the Coples pick. Who do you think is having the better season so far, who would u have drafted, Coples or...???

I just think Melvin Ingram was a good all around need player for the Jets -- he's kind of a cross between an edge rusher and an active line backer. I think he could have been that Polamalu X-factor in a defense.

    Edge rushing is important, though.

You generally cannot grade your draft choices until they have developed several years out of the draft, much less TWO GAMES FROM THE START OF THE SEASON.

I think Coples will pan out. He just needs more time on the field. Nothing against DeVito, but Coples is shit ton to try and block.

Honestly too early to tell. But some people I would have been happy with are

    Melvin Ingram
    Doug Martin
    Kendall Wright
Chandler Jones (maybe, havent seen much of him, but Ive heard he's been good)
    Hightower

Immediate impact, I think the nod goes to Doug Martin.

Too early to say who we would have drafted instead

I like Coples thing is he gotta get on the field to be effective

We all, or most, wanted Ingram, Rieff or DeCastro

At that moment though I was hoping to select Nick Perry but he's looked like shit in coverage as we all expected

I dont disagree, but we needed an impact player, not a developing player. Therfore my position is based on current needs not future. We need a pass rusher. His play may be the reason for Rex or Tanny getting fired or not.

In the draft all you are going to get (if you're lucky) is a developing player... if you want an impact player out of the box you either have to pick top 5 or you look at FA.

About Coples. When we drafted him I thought he'd go down the Gholston route... now I think he'll at the very least be a sound contributor for this D. I'm Glad I was wrong.

Chandler Jones has outplayed Coples so far in 2 games, so he's gotta be in the mix. 1st round pick Pats DL vs 1st round Jets DL.

Coples hasn't shown a ton in 2 games, but the best is yet to come.

Darrelle Revis 1st 2 regular season game stats:

    Game 1 NE:
    Tackles (solo): 5
    Sacks: 0
    Pass defended: 0
    Interceptions: 0
Yards allowed: 61 off 6 catches to Welker

    Game 2 @BAL
    Tackles (solo): 5
    Sacks: 0
    Pass defended: 2
    Interceptions: 0

You can't judge a player off his first 2 games

At the time I wanted Upshaw or Ingram over Coples... After all is said and done, I'm happy with the Coples pick

Coples has only played about 40% of the defensive snaps so far, with only 16 vs. the steelers.

Way too early now but this would be a fun debate in the offseason though. Usually when players are drafted you need to wait a couple years to determine their value.

I generally trust Rex Ryan's evaluation of defensive linemen over my own. I'm fine with Coples until he shows me a reason to think otherwise.

Coples was a solid pick, I would still take him over Ingram and even Jones. If I had to choose differently though I'd take either Riley Reiff, Decastro, or Kirkpatrick and put him at safety.

Coples was fine. You want the best player on your 1st round pick and Chandler and Ingram were not that. They may turn out to be better than Coples but that doesn't mean they were better on draft day, because they weren't.
