Good call, if we can win this one and the Pats lose to Baltimore then we'll be top of the division regardless of what Buffalo does (they play the Browns so...yeah, they might win). That being said if the Phins win they could be top of the division...that'd be weird. Wouldn't last, obviously, but still would be weird.
I think Revis needs to play. If he plays, we can blitz more, we won't have to keep so many guys in coverage, and all this blitzing will just be a nightmare for a rookie QB without any real pass catching weapons. However, Tannehill is not a bad QB. If we are going to try to generate pass rush with just our down lineman, we won't and he will have a lot of time to find someone against our weak secondary without Revis. If Revis doesn't play and we go the same route against Miami, I could see the Phins having some success offensively. Really though, if we blitz Tannehill early and often, he will have a nightmare. Even if Revis doesn't play, we need to send the house and just trust our CB's can hold up for a few seconds against their weak receiving core. They have a pretty good O-line, so its not going to be easy generating pass rush with our defensive line. As far as Bush is concerned, I am confident that he will not do much. Our run defense is very good, anything inside will be stopped for a loss. The only worry I have is on outside runs. Bush is very elusive and we have a lot of poor tacklers on this defense. That is how Spiller had those two long runs, he had nothing else the rest of the game. If the Jets blitz Tannehill often and are able to tackle Bush, we should pretty much shut down their offense. We don't know if the Week 1 Jets offense or the Week 2 Jets offense is going to show up, but either one should get the job done. If we play it right defensively, we will be able to get away with a mediocre offense against the Dolphins.
all time Miami is definitely our top rival but over the last 10-15 years(basically since Parcells came here) NE has been our #1 rival.
Revis is crucial...Keller has been solid against the Phins so would be nice to have him back also. They played solid against the run yesterday so contain Bush ...force the ball in the the rookie's hands and see what he can do.
Revis was crucial yesterday b/c Pitt has a great WR corps, Miami doesn't have that. We should be able to beat up their O w/ or w/o Revis.
I just think without Revis Ryan modifies the defense to react and no attack. Defense needs to attack, play man, and not sit in zone. Make it hard on the rookie to decipher coverages.
Yesterday we had little choice b/c of how many weapons they have at WR, Miami doesn't have any weapons at WR. They have good RBs, conatin Bush and we shouldn't have a problem against their offense. Obviously I want Revis back and he makes our D much better but my point is I don't think we NEED him this week.
Ive been telling everyone, the Patriots ARE NOT running away with this division this year. I didnt see that loss coming yesterday but if you look at their schedule they got the Ravens, then @bills, then the Broncos. They WILL lose at least one of thos games if not two. Ontop of that, they got the 49ers and Texans VERY late in the year. Thats no joke, they could lose both those games. In previous years after the Patriots beat the Jets, they ran away with the divison due to an easy schedule. This year they have some tough challenges late. Heres hoping the Ravens get revenge next week and send the Patriots to the bottom of the division. Imagine a 1-2 Patriots team having to go a 2-1 Buffalo team? I hate the Bills but that would be one crazy game especially with the crowd.
with revis out you lose kyle wilson in the middle of the field and on the slot guys. and our linebackers/safties arent great in coverage.
Again, we are obviously much better w/ him but if we can't handle Miami's O w/o him then our D isn't very good. Remember, 2 years ago we shut out NE in the 2nd half in week 2 w/o Revis.
What's up Greens? Always happy to stop by here on Jets Dolphins week and check-in. I know it is always said that the game is won on the line of scrimmage, but this will be so much the case this game. Whichever team can keep the QB on his feet and find holes to run through will win this game. Should be another heated, and tightly contested game. Good rivalry.
So how are the big uglies looking this season in Miami, Dolphins fans (both O and D)? I am studying overseas so I have to devote a lot of resources to watching a shitty stream that goes out half the time I'm watching the Jets, so I don't catch as much general NFL stuff as I would back home. I think that the Jet defensive line will be able to have more of an impact in this one than they had against the Steelers. The Phins don't have the weapons outside that the Steelers have and your QB isn't close to on the same level of Roethlisberger yet, though he looked better this week. The Jets will probably yield some big plays to Bush but will also force a good amount of punts. If Tannehill plays mistake free, it will be a good game. If for some reason the real Jets defense shows up (i.e., if Revis makes the trip) and creates some havoc, I see the Jets winning pretty handedly. Hopefully they'll be the pissed off team this week telling reporters they won't be going 1-2, 'cause that shit yesterday was bad.
If Revis plays, I really can't see any way that the Phins win unless its a fluke 10-7 win where the Phins score a special teams TD or score a defensive touchdown. If Revis doesn't play, I think the Jets could be looking at a difficult game. Tannehill might not be the best QB in the NFL yet, but when you give him all day to throw with no pass rush against a secondary missing by far its most important player, that QB is going to have a field day.
I think 6 has had this game highlighted on his calendar for awhile. Wants to erase what happened there last year. Expect the Jets to win big with or without Revis.
i think people are grossly mistaken if they think we are just going to show up and stomp miami. sure, they dont have superstars, but they have offensive guys that can hurt you. bess can make plays. bush can score any time he touches it. fasano is a legit option in the middle of the field. hartline is no slouch. and defensively, they can give us trouble as well. i think we win, but something like 20-17. not much room for error
I don't think we need Revis either but I would love to see him play. Revis is a great play making corner. Hartline is the only decent wr on the Fins. Tannehill looks at him alot and I can see him forcing a lot of throws to Revis. I think it could be one of those stat booster days for him and would really help our D just lock down the passing game. Stack the box on Reggie Bush and Dare Tannehill to throw. Rex is good at confusing rookie QBs and show him some things that he has never seen before. He's never passed at corners like Revis and Cromartie with their playmaking ability so Im hoping he will make a lot of mistakes Sunday.
Tannehill doesn't stand a chance against this defense with or without Revis. I don't think people give Ben enough credit for how good he played yesterday. I just hope no concussion shit on Sanchez pops up during the week ... Jets should roll in this one.
I really hope Sanchez isn't concussed but you are right. As much as everyone myself included has been complaining the Steelers played really well on offense. Big Ben put up the highest QBR ever on the Jets in Rex's era. He was right on target almost every pass and he was shaking away defenders all day. Big Ben should be a top 5 QB but he is inconsistent at times as well. Yesterday with a lot on the line for the Steelers risking an 0-2 start he really put the offense on his back. Without Revis we just didn't have the guys to keep up with those WRs and Big Ben exploited it all day. 27 points isn't indicative of how well the offense played.
Really? Shouldn't even be close you say? I'll admit, you'll probably win, as much as it pains me to say it. Our WR are very vanilla right now, and if Revis plays, it will be tough. And while I love Tannehill, he is a rookie, and he's yet to see a blitz package like Rex will fire up. BUT, Reggie is running great, and our D is playing very well. So I still think it will be close. Unless T-hill suffers a meltdown of turnovers, not sure how this won't be close.
And Jet fans, know this about T-hill so far. While he's not always accurate, he has yet to throw a truly ill-advised pass in two games. Sure, he had five tipped at the LOS in the first game, but they weren't necessarily ill-advised (i.e., into double/triple coverage, etc.). All his throws have gone to the right place. Something to think about for a rook - you don't often see that! Now, he hasn't faced blitzing like the Jets are capable of, so we'll see. Part of the growing process. But frankly, you should win this game at this point. If you don't, you didn't bring your A game.
