How much? Revis deserves to be paid but what does "paid" mean ... put a dollar amount out there instead of just making a generic statement. It's not like the Jets are trying to pay Revis the vet minimum. 10M is where I'd set the ceiling. If Revis requires 11M or more let him walk or trade him. That kind of money can sign 2-3 very good players in the front 7. The same front 7 featuring the slow as shit LB core that can't seal the edge or cover anyone.
Brown had a good day going in motion, something Revis would have limited but would not have stopped completely, and the big plays were made by the two people Revis would have had nothing to do with anyway: Heath Miller and Mike Wallace, not to mention the Steelers RB finding their inner Walter Payton.
Jets need to pay the man his due. Wallace for one would have been invisible yesterday. Revis not only takes his man out of the game, he allows the defense to cover their weaknesses.
Antonio Brown had like 7 catches for 75 yards, some of those were crucial 3rd down plays. Revis would of been the guy on him. Gotta pay da man somehow
well if the jets would have tackled big ben when given the opp we wouldn't be discussing this. we should have had 6-7 sacks.
Too many people overlook this. The game breaker is that the Jets had nobody in the front seven that could bring down the qb after getting there. If you keep the current secondary without Revis and dump that 10+ million into the front seven then maybe you have guys that can actually bring Big Ben down and not let him extend every 3rd down.
When you have a player who is the best at his position you pay him. You don't let stars like Revis get away. For those who thought he was overrated and a corner doesn't make a big difference is crazy.
No. We could of easily have won that game without him. We need to pay for better LBs who can cover and can make a for sure sack at a QB who is in the open on 3rd downs...
This is a well thought out post, and intelligent post to boot. People on this board are waaaaayyy too quick to pull the "pay the man" card. Listen, we lost today, but it wasn’t because we didn’t have #24 on the field. It was our inability to win in many other fazes of the game (Special teams were horrible, as was our running game/Passing game, not to mention tackling). Take a step back and deep breath. We have more holes to fill on this team and CB is not one of them (with or without #24).
I am thinking you did not watch the game. With Revis out, the Jets played mostly zone. Playing mostly zone means the blitz is more risky when you are up against a Qb who knows how to read the zone, see the blitz, buy time, and make the throw. Like Ben. With Revis in there, they could have played their usual man coverage. And you want to say you know that would not have made a difference? I frankly would have thought that today in particular would have been a good day for the Trade Revis crowd to find something better to do than post here, as apparently the Schotty Haters have been smart enough to do. Guess not.
Big Ben had the highest passer rating any QB has ever had in the Rex Ryan Era. Just so happens to be without our best Defensive player and someone who completely disrupts other teams passing game. You think people are too quick to say pay him? You'd rather get a few draft picks that might turn into nothing for one of if not the best defensive players in football.
Let me get this straight, By having Revis in the line up we would have actually 1) Tackled (Ben, Redman, Dwyer...fuck insert any other Steeler) 2) JK would have fair caught the Punt he muffed 3) The Rb's would have been able to block in pass pro 4) Tone would have caught the 4 passes he dropped? 5) Landry being aggressive but under control *I see what you are trying to say, and yes Revis does allow the Jets to be more aggressive by playing man, but at what cost? For the most part our DB's (besides Landry and Cro not locating the ball on Wallaces TD) were not a major liability. Did you watch the game?
You said before it would not have made a difference to have Revis in the game. I did not have to say that his presence would have cured all the ills we saw. Perhaps you meant to say would not have made a difference enough to turn the loss into a win. But you did not say that. The pass D with Revis in does not always play man, of course, but yesterday they looked to be pretty much in zone all day long. That has a cascading effect on the Jet pass D. It makes them easier for the opponent to read them. Blitzing is more problematic. The main point is his presence would have made a difference, and I think a big one. More generally I find the Trade Revis argument highly flawed because it flies against the old adage of not wanting to trade a bird in the hand for two in the bush. You want to trade a near certain commodity, as certain as these things get in the NFL, for the prospect that THIS FO will make better use of draft picks and trades then they currently have a track record for? THIS group of front office people? I'd rather not go there.
I don't think there was any one corner getting beat consistently. Ben just kept creating plays evading sacks. The coverage was good for the most part. We played way too much zone, IMO, though.
No, but he can eliminate Roethlisberger's top target (and free up the safety on one side of the field,) making it that much harder for him to make a big play once he avoids the initial rush.
