That's actually a great call, we had the ball at midfield and went backwards. I think the other big letdown was getting the ball back up 10-6 at our own 40 and going 3 and out in the middle of the 2nd quarter. They get the ball , go down and score and we go in the lockerroom down 13-10. Your obviously not always going to get a 1st down but in that spot it was crucial to get something.
that was absolutely the game changer but at least they threw the flag. I think something similar happened last year(I think it was the oak game) and that sent sanchez into a funk. Hopefully he regroups next week.
1. I agree 2. the defender grabbed(or pushed) Hill's arm, it was subtle but credit the D. 3. Wallace threw Cromartie out of the way, should ahve been OPI. Watch the replay, Cromartie was completely off balance which was why Cro looked like he was just hanging out in the back of the EZ. 4. we had 2 nice WC plays, why push our luck? that was a big play. we lost, we deserved to lose, we were outplayed on the road in a tough place to win. It happens, for people to act like we lost to the '96 Jets is silly.
I expect Timmons to get hit with a relatively big fine by the league. It was helmet to helmet and was extremely dangerous.
It's not as simple as that. If Sanchez had his bell rung he can't just ignore that. I'm not saying he did, and we will probably never know for certain, but if he was hurt on that play it would inevitably affect his performance, especially as we're talking about his brain.
The Steelers played way more physical on defense than the Jets did. The Jets were solid against the run, but played zone in pass coverage all day while the Steelers got very physical all over the field. They basically said let's see how much we can get away with. So they held, tackled, and abused receivers down the field. They weren't called for any illegal contact My issue is the Jets never changed their defensive strategy to match. Stayed in zone, had big cushions, played a give up 8 yards but not 30 defense. My biggest non-play - Cumberland not turning around on a hot read in the second on a play that would have been an easy 1st down. The Hill play -- he was hit on the arms before the ball got there which moved his hands making for a very tough catch - non call.
The bolded succinctly sums up the game and the ridiculous overreaction to it's outcome on this thread, rather nicely.
It's hard to have a fair discussion about this since I am a Steeler fan but this is silly. I find it amazing that if team A makes an adjustment and shuts down team B, the fans of team B have to find an excuse. The hit by Timmons wasn't cheap and there damn sure wasn't time for pre-meditation. This hit was good solid football until a year or so ago when Goodell started changing the game, that has been played for eternity, to fit his dictatorship.
It was helmet to helmet. It deserved to be a penalty. Its not the reason we lost yesterday but it was definitely a cheap shot. It was also after the play he never let up.
I get it you were the better team we would probably lose that game 9 out of ten times...but those adjustments your team made were greatly aided by that hit... I know its Steeler ball & you guys love it (we would love it too)...but its part of your strategy it always was...like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfFW-Yezv0k Godell might be a dictator but those hits are dangerous and one day someone might get killed…I know you don’t care since you have optimus prime as your QB but we do…so take your sanctimonious crap back to your board….
If you watch the play, Timmons put his head to the side and lead with his shoulder. The fact that Sanchez head moved the same way in a bang-bang situation can't be called cheap.
To take this to another level, I just wish Goodell would actually "do something" about the danger instead of just changing rules. What could he do? How about a zero tolerance policy for steroids and PED's? The NFL turns a blind eye to steroid and PED use which is creating 280 pound linebackers with the agility of a 180 pound WR and the strength of a 340 pound lineman. But alas........that would impact the 9 billion dollar coffers of the NFL. People pay to watch these physical freaks.
Yeah, that'd be cool. Or, the guys on D could be held responsible for going high enough to hit the quarterback on his skull. Oh wait, they are.
Are you losing sight of the fact that the average IQ of the NFL players, with the exception of QB's and offensive linemen, is very low. Responsibility is something these guys have NEVER had to accept. Murderers, rapists, thugs, thieves, and generally bad people are welcomed with open arms by the NFL because it makes money for the NFL. And you expect these cretins to police themselves and play under different rules than they have been playing, and praised for, since they were 7?
If they can get to practice on time, they can figure out lowering their angle of impact so as to go towards the chest. If for nothing else than to avoid the 20,000$ fine.
