First, let me preface by saying that the refs did not cost us the game by any stretch. In fact, the Jets got one call today (the def PI on Taylor) which was one of the worst calls I've ever seen.

With that said, wtf was one of the refs looking at on the Bell strip? Not only did Bell strip Redman and get the ball, but even if we don't get that call, replays showed his knee was clearly down in the backfield. This totally changes the complexion of the drive (regardless if we win or not).

    Thoughts?

I agree. They didn't cost us the game but they were still terrible, for both sides.

Yeah they pretty much screwed that one up. I thought it should have been a fumble but I get the inconclusive stuff but Redman was clearly down 4 yards behind the LOS.

I was expecting them to say the player but did fumble the ball but his knee hit the ground 5 in teh backfield and therfor was down by contact.

It didn't cost us the game as there were shitty calls on both sides. My biggest gripe with the replacement refs is that they take too long to get the calls right. I lost half of the first quarter of the Jets-Steelers game because the refs of the Eagles-Ravens game were soo damn slow. It disrupts the pace of the game and makes the experience of watching on the whole less fun. I hope the issue gets resolved soon, because I cannot stand these delays.

plenty of missed calls but really so different than the normal refs? it's like comparing poop vs crap.

NFL is a billion dollar operation and they can't afford to pay for some decent full time refs to clean up the game? Must be easier to fix games when you can blame every key bad call on crappy officiating.

Jets did pretty well overall when it comes to the refereeing. They got the ball re-spotted & pinned Pitt on a punt from their endzone (which they then fumbled). The pass interference penalty was a very lucky break. Can't complain about that one call when the Jets overall got help from the refs.

great point about the blown calls, how could the ref blow two calls on one play, but has pointed out those wouldn't of won us the game, I would of lose it if the Jets offense was playing lights out last week then those non calls would of been huge, but when the team is playing bad it seems you get no calls

Yes, yes you can. The video was pretty blatant (even you don't agree with the fumble, Redman's knee was clearly down). It didn't affect the outcome of the game, since we sucked, but it doesn't excuse the call any less.

Refs didn't cost the jets the game, but the constant huddles after just about every penalty called, I think it upset the flow of the game. I get that they want to get it right but cmon. How many times did the camera cut to Roethlisberger or Sanchez standing around waiting for the right call? Way too long for an NFL game .

There is no replacement Ref in the replay booth. He's the usual bonehead the NFL uses with the real Refs. That's why they blew two calls in one replay.

These refs look lost. They're afraid to make a call and take way too long to make decisions.Games are averaging over 20 minutes longer this season...it's crazy.

We didn't lose because of the replacement refs, it just prolonged our misery today.

Exactly. The replacements were terrible, but you can't blame replacement refs for missing that replay. We would've gone three and out anyway even if they had given us the ball.

They didn't cost us the game, but they were complete shit. I don't see how the NFL can keep this shit going. The replacement refs have been a lot worse than the regular refs usually are through two weeks. By the time the playoffs come around, they will have blown a few big games with horrible calls at the end, its bound to happen. The NFL really can't let this happen.

I heard a replacement ref scheduled to ref the Saints game was pulled when someone looked at his Face Book page and it was loaded with pics of the ref in Saints gear...he's a huge Saints homer.

I think they've done a pretty good job overall. Does everyone remember how awful the regular refs have been the last couple of years?

And let's take a second and actually thank them. Because w/o them crossing the picket line we would not have football right now

Keep in mind that with regular refs, or replacement refs, they are not allowed to change anything except the issue the head coach tells them to look at. Ryan told them he was challenging the fumble. They are not permitted to change anything else......and there wasn't enough evidence to overturn the fumble. The knee being down was not open to scrutiny.....it's the rule.

You are incorrect. The entire play is reviewable.
