That was a nice little breakdown. I agree, it's gonna be a ton of fun watching those two work together this year. Don't forget we gave Holmes to excite us on the other side too. Kerley can be exciting as well. Hell, we thought the receiving corps was terrible. It may be the most exciting one we've seen as Jet fans for a while.
Nice post LTJF....loved reading it. I agree Hill is big, fast, and special. I'm SO glad his case of the dropsies he had during pre-season seems to have disappeared. Just like Braylon left his reputation for dropped passes at the bus stop on the way to Jet Stadium (except for the bomb that bounced off his face mask!). Beyond Hill, I still can't believe the Kerly catch right over the DB's outstretched hands. What a beautiful pass from Sanchez. A single inch made all the difference, plus the way Kerly 'yanked' the ball out of mid air was pretty kool!
Looks like somebody took the new Coaches Film out for a spin. I have to admit, it's pretty awesome. Gotta love NFL Game Pass. I used it to watch all of our big plays on Sunday.
I am excited too, but I would recommend tempering some of this excitement. All the questions about this young man are not answered. He did well in his first game against a bad team that had no film on him, and precious little film on our new offense. I want to see how he does over the next several weeks before I declare him a total success. Still, at least we have reason for some optimism with this kid.
I think realistically you can argue that what was supposed to be a downgrade from Plaxico Burress is actually not. That's a good start.
Aside from some trademark opportunistic grabs in the EZ, not much would have been a downgrade from Burress. They basically picked up a guy ten years younger with the same skillset that Burress had developed over his pro career, more raw and without a prison conviction.
Hill is a lot faster than Plaxico as well. From last year anyway, maybe Plaxico had more comparable speed in his prime.
That's true... but personally I was expecting very little from Hill. It's hard to get excited about a guy who only had 49 catches in college. I know the raw ability is there but the fact that (through one game) it has translated well so far is a very pleasant surprise.
Plax was never a burner. Wasn't much of a physical receiver that Steelers envisioned him to be in the end. The ONLY skillset Plax is superior to Hill is probably the back shoulder fade. Other than that, Plax didn't offer much (which is why he was non-existent between the 20's) and Hill is offering a lot more in that regard. Clear UPgrade.
Plax shows great body awareness when he's in that big painted rectangle of field. Hill, not yet. But I give credit to the people that mentioned Hill's straight line speed, because it means a lot more when the receiver can display the physicality that Stephen Hill did in game one.
What's so impressive about his straight line speed is that it seems he's good breaking on it in order to gain separation.
I agree. Plax was never a deep threat even in the prime of his career. He was very good, but not a deep threat.
