Isnt it about time we had someone on this team that scares the crap out of offensive players. When was the last time we had someone on our defense who was able to do that. If he can take out Brady and maybe Big Ben, This was an A plus pickup for the Jets.
Tackling low and/or grabbing the legs so the player can't keep churning his legs is a sure way to tackle. If your legs aren't moving or on the ground you can't go too much further It doesn't have to be at the knees. Anything lower is more then sufficient. And yes Harrison used to tackle low and was a very sure tackler. There are players who do like to give a little emphasis when they do that though. I think Bernard Pollard is like that. He likes to tackle around the knees and twist. He's on the dirty side. I didn't see the Landry play (but Jackson was one of my FF RBs dammit!) so I can't comment.
I think Landry just likes to go low because its a sure way to tackle someone. Easier to wrap up and bring down the carrier. Also when Landry hits high he hits them so hard it just looks like a personal foul. In the preseason game when he layed out Cruz so many people were calling for personal fouls when it was a clean hit. He just lays such vicious hits its almost better to go low because he won't get personal foul calls on him as often.
I haven't seen Landry play enough to know if he's "dirty", but the hit on Jackson was perfectly clean.
Show me anything that demostrated him as a dirty player......He's a scary hitting machine that will knock you into next week type player. He sacrifices his body to lay bone crushing hits and truly intimidate the opposing players. YOU HAVE GOT TO LOVE LANDRY. He was clapping as he got up because he just put the wood on Fred Jackson. He was not clapping because he injured him...how would he even know that quickly that Jackson had incurred a serious injury. Stop stirring the pot and give this man his due. Can we agree this guy is a Ronnie Lott type player who you have to account for if you dare come across the middle. I may have to get this guys jersey I have such a man crush on him!
Exactly. Harrison routinely used to roll under the player to take his legs out from under him. He wasn't going after the knees but a surer tackle. Of course anytime you are in that area, the knees can be threatened. Like I said some players are more liberal in their emphasis on the knees but I didn't see the Landry play.
http://www.buffalonews.com/storyima...19920.jpg&exactW=602&maxH=602&AlignV=top&Q=80 Not sure how to post pic, but one can see from this it is clearly not a dirty tackle. Jackson gets his legs tripped by by Pace and is left in an awkward position before Landry's contact with him. As for the clapping afterward, I thought he may not have realized he hurt him, but after rewatching it sure seems like he knew what he did and that was pretty classless. I always hated Rodney Harrison for basically ending Curtis's career, but I can't lie that I enjoy having a thumper back there.
It's this part of the game that I have mixed feelings about. Having said that, I didn't think it was a cheap shot. Football is a violent game and intimidation is a big part of it. If the defender makes a big hit on a running back or a receiver, then that offensive player will be playing scared or looking out for the guy who made the hit. Then he won't play as effectively. Then again, it's those types of hits, even though legit, that cause injuries and concussions, etc and I don't like to see that, even for the other teams and for women like Tom Brady, who I can't stand.
Having a safety who can really control the middle is a big deal in the NFL. Harrison was the glue behind much of the Patriots defensive success and championships particularly in the secondary. Even when the secondary was full of scrubs and rookies. He had the corners back. It's not a surprise their defense started to slip as injuries and age slowed him down. (Oh and yes Harrison routinely piled on after the play. I hated the penalities he would always get then.) BTW as long as Landry isn't trying to injure the man, I think a Gronk/Landry matchup will be interesting. Safeties like Landry pride themselves on being more physical then the receivers but Gronk is a pretty good physical speciman himself and might surprise Landry.
This guy just goes all out 100% all day everyday. I dont think hes a dirty player at all, he just gives more effort out there than some of the guys we're used to seeing. He's also a physical beast which also helps a ton at the safety position
Butt hurt Bills thread. http://boards.buffalobills.com/showthread.php?428854-LaRon-Landry-aka-Cheapshot-Artist
I liked this one. This is how I feel. "Looks like the fans have taken on the same whiny, soft, excuse laden attitude as the team and coaching staff. George Wilson is a good guy and a decent player. Landry is a mean sob and a decent player. I'll take Landry everytime." Give me the enforcer. I like that when he tackles someone he doesn't want to give them an extra inch. Give me the guy who gets in receivers heads with vicious hits and is willing to fight for ground. I hate seeing soft tackles giving him an extra yard.
Wow.. Whatta bunch of complete pussies! They're swearing up and down that LaRon went after the knee even though the replay shows it was a thigh high hit. No wonder they're moving to Toronto one day soon.. :rofl2:
I don't think he's intentionally dirty, but I think he needs to think a little more before he takes what is percieved to be a cheap shot and gets a personal foul call, or worse.
I don't think he's a dirty player either. He definitely wants people to know that if they intrude in his space that he's going to make them regret it.
