It's not so much that Sparano is such a messiah (he's probably an average OC), it's more that Schottenheimer is being exposed as such an incompetent and useless turd

I never said we went out of the way to get to him. I said we got to him where he could make plays after the catch. Remember a lot of times last year Holmes caught a pass and was tackled immediately because a defender was draped on him?

Didn't see that this game. It was very refreshing to see

    Such a huge difference

No more of the 15 pre snap motions and waiting until the playclock is at 1 before the snap

No more 4 receiver sets where all of them run 5 yards slants or quick outs on 3rd and 8

What a true relief that we dont have to deal with that stupid fucking offense anymore

Well all I heard going into this game was how the Bills defense was going to abuse our hapless offense. I agree it is way too early to call him a savior to this offense. But we seemed to execute much better under him than we ever did under Schotty.

I'm loving the lack of holding and false start penalties as well.

the fact that the bubble screen worked amazed me.

    that never worked under schotty.

I haven't seen any replays of the play, but my basic guess on why it worked was because we threw deep often and a lot. Kept the corners and safeties at bay

That was a clown post bro. You just argued over simple semantics. A choice of words that everyone else here actually got, but went straight over your fat Schotty lovin' head.

We all know what we saw and it was delightful. We are also intelligent enough to separate player performance with the actual offensive scheme that was employed. Sorry, also don't need your wikipedia like references to socialist jerkoffs to understand what happened Sunday.

How many good games on offense will it take to divorce you from Schotty? 5-10?

I was happy to see routes on 3 and 7 that ranged beyond 10 yards!

    Nice!

Schotty had moments where the offense executed well, take the 2010 New England playoff game for example. I like how the offense performed overall on Sunday but I'm gonna wait until I see just how well they execute while playing a much more physical defense before saying sparano is any better then Schotty.

Just the mere fact that receivers didn't run 5 yard patterns on a 3rd and 8 for example was enough to declare him an upgrade over Schitty. Thank god we don't have him here anymore with that horrendous "offensive system."

    I tell you one thing:

Sparano was coaching and working with his players during the game. And Sanchez did not spiral out of control, he came back and had his best game maybe ever.

I NEVER SAW THAT WITH THE SHCITTHEAD

Schottenheimer was always aloof and distant and though that he was just cleverer than everyone else, and blamed his players did not perform despite a really poor offensive scheme.

I think the difference between the two is pretty glaring.

Schotty's offense depended on two factors. One, to execute the play as called (and every offense depends on this). But two, to have the defense be caught off guard or confused. I think that's why he kept calling 3 yard curl routes on 3rd and 8, because he expected the defense to be confused and have the runner get the YAC to the first down. Unfortunately, No. 2, doesn't always happen, which made our offense stagnate. We'd move the ball easily to say midfield, then suddenly lose every kind of flow we had, because the defense would adjust to Schotty trying to mess with them. His main problem was that he just wasn't a genius that he thought he was.

Sporano, in the very limited view so far, seems to just employ what most offenses do, which is have people execute and gain first downs. Keep the trickery to a minimum, and your chances go higher. Inherently, an offense always has an advantage in the matchup, because the players know where the ball is going and where they have to go, but the defense always has to react. So if you can just execute, and have good enough athletes, then you should be a good offense.

Schotty is that kid in high school, who never made the basketball team, but decides to chuck up shot after shot in gym to prove that he's good. Sometimes, he looks good, and you are like wow, either our team must be great or this kid got a raw deal. But most times you realize that he's just a chucker, who blames you or anyone else as soon as something goes wrong, but he's just no where near as good as he thinks he is. However, he's too adamant to conform, so it's the same deal every time.

Schotty offensive scheme was completely idiotic. It was always more about him trying to trick the defense instead of figuring out what his personnel does great. Does Sporano expect Stephen Hill to catch balls one-handed in the corner of the endzone...NO! that's Santonio and probably Kerley's job only. Does he expect him to catch jump balls on deep fly patterns or 20 yard crossing routes...well hell yea.

Just play to your player's strengths...and get all your weapons involved to keep the defense guessing. It's so simple. And Sporano and Sanchez executed this early and often on Sunday.

    Good riddance Schotty.

That is true. A full year ago. And before that game we probably go back to 2009 to find another one.

Lazy to look up, but did we finally score a first quarter touchdown? I know that plagued us under Schotty a lot.

The Jets actually scored a TD in the first quarter in the first game. How many times could we say that about Schittenhymen?

I'd rather be the good team than the team that needs to take into account the fact that it is playing a good team.

He had FOUR catches and not many more targets. We got the ball downfield, that opens things up underneath for Holmes. We protected the passer and sanchez looked as good as he ever has.

You guys just need a scapegoat and that was the OC, never mind we couldn't pass or run block a year ago but continue bashing.

You said nothing in your post of substance. Nothing. When do you want to contribute something other than waving pom poms? Later this week? Sometime this season? I am not sure it will be worth the wait, anyway, but I thought I would ask.

My point was on point - there is a question the extent to which improved execution was the larger factor in Sunday's game against the Bills than the playcalling. Failing as the post I attacked did to even see the difference between playcalling and execution is a failure to understand what the real question is.

The real question after all is not Schotty's impact last year. The real question is whether Sparano will prove to be an improvement.

Going through camp I was encouraged by what I heard about trying to get the play calls in. I also assume he in the end must have been a factor in changing out Hunter for Howard. Other variables from last year are somewhat harder to isolate Sparano's role. Going forward, we should all agree, will give us a better picture than one game, particularly when facing stronger D's than Buffalo's. I hope they succeed.

It is also true that Sparano as the OC may have been doing things to help the Jets execute their plays better, the change out of Hunter being one variable, and one example.

But from one game the attempts here by too many to isolate the playcalling as THE SOLE FACTOR in the Jets' win are ludicrous.

Now, if you or anyone else wants to make the case that the playcalling was the main factor, or a significant factor, more so than others, go right ahead and educate us.

PS I concede in theory that even were one to argue that the playcalling is a lesser factor, Sparano may still be seen as an upgrade over Schotty, if he contributes to the team playing with better coaching. that is after all part of coaching.

But that is a different argument than "We won because Sparano is such a better coach calling plays than Schotty!" I submit that is far from clear.

I thought much of your post was plausible until I got to the bolded part.

Do you not consider the wildcat, seminole, whatever you want to call it when you bring in Tebow as an alternate Qb to be some form of trickery?

Maybe it is semantics, but I do. It is interesting no mattter what one's take on whether it put the Bills off balance for other plays to note that the wildcat, which Sparano is apparently a huge advocate of, was for the plays it was run relatively unproductive.
