actually the difference was pass protection. Protect Mark and we have a good pass O like yesterday, don't and we don't like last year.

Looked like Mark had more of an ability to call out of plays and make adjustments at the line....really mixed things up. Wasn't a matter of just throwing 10 quick slants or outs in a row and having one get picked. Really used the entire field and all of his targets.

No. The difference was the time it took to get the ball out. It's not a difficult concept. The modern NFL over values DEs, so 3seconds and out whenever possible, tells Buffalo you're fucked. I've been saying for years that Belli is what he is because he understood the moneyball concept before billy and Peter invented it. Wes welker getting that 12 mil contract, and the reordering of the offense, was the most brilliant innovation since Bill Walsh. And proving the counterpoint of moneyball, was the fact that only the Colts under Moore understood it.
The Rams' offense finished with 251 yards and were 4-for-12 on third downs. Get used to the suck Rams fans.
Biggest difference I saw on offense was WR's had spacing in their routes, the field was indeed spread wide. They also got out of the huddle and snap with plenty of time, keeping the D on their heels. Blocking schemes both run and pass seemed more straight forward. All in all, it was a nice departure from the mental masturbation of the Schotty era.
Despite the severe over-reactions we are prone to as a group, I think yesterday vindicates the collective intelligence of Jets Nation. Listening to the post game shows all year last year, it was caller after caller specifically complaining about two people - Schotty and Wayne Hunter. Tanny and the FO finally smarten the fuck up, and look at the results. Does yesterday mean we're going 16-0? Of course not, but the little things that made yesterday great - solid protection, a willingness to throw not only the deep stuff, but the intermediate over-the-middle routes, passing on first down - these aren't flukes.
The QB had time to throw. That was the biggest difference. 2 years ago the QB was protected w/ the same OC and the QB was a top 10 type QB, last year the OL was brutal and the QB sufered b/c of it. It's pretty simple. How many SBs did BB win w/ that philosophy? They also nearly upset a playoff team from 2010 on the road in a game they were a huge underdog in.
Yeah Schotty and that offense did a great job intercepting Stafford those 3 times, the majority of why they almost won. And one big difference I saw was using the whole field. We threw everywhere to everyone. Nobody was grouped close together and the Bills defenders couldn't stack an area of the field. We also tried to get Tone the ball where he could make moves after the catch, his strength. We hit him on a quick screen once 1 vs 1 where he got pissed off because he ran out, and one other time. I believe all his catches were for 1st downs.
Holmes had 4 catches and I think maybe 6 targets, he didn't go out of our way to get it to him. mark spread the ball around to all of his receivers. The O looked really good and again a big reason why was the play of the OL. Mark was a top 10 type QB in 2010, in 2011 he was a bottom 10 starting QB b/c the Ol was so bad. OL looked great on Sunday and mark played great. Comparing last year and this year is not fair.
I've noticed that unlike Schotty, whose passing game required precise reads/routes/timing, there is a little more trust in Sparano's system for the receiver to win his matchup and make the play.
Glad Shotty is gone, BETTER that WFH is gone. Thought our offence played a great game. In earlier posts I said if Hill could catch 5 or 6 TD's and maybe gain 500 yards I would say its a great pick. I may have to change my numbers. I know its only one game but I see Hill doing some great things for us. The catch from Holmes was FANTASTIC, Holy shit wish he could have let the hand stay up. Excellent point! I didn't realize that while at the game but it's true. It'd be great to be able to hear what Sanchez hears inside his helmet, and what the differences between Sporano and Schotty is. Actually, I still can't believe NFL QB's have audio inside their helmets. I know its been years, but It still seems crazy to me. Why can't MLB pitchers wear an earphone to hear what picth to throw? (God I hope that never happens)
