What nonsense. He is giving credit to the front office and the pick. He admits that he would like to take credit for him but he can't. Clearly because it was a good pick.

And you know it was a good pick because...? He may turn out to be great, but I think that there is nothing that has happened in the preseason that would lead you to believe that this guy is gonna be special.

One lame headline results in 11 pages. Kind of an instructive lesson on the internets.

Hill's the kind of prospect that any team would like to take a flyer on. The price the Jets paid is what is suspect. If we'd gotten him straight up in the 3rd round I'd be pretty excited about the value there. He might turn out or he might not but having a big fast guy who might catch 60 passes a year once he has his feet on the ground is nothing to sneer at.

Rex clarifies remark on Stephen Hill to SI. Says he meant it as a compliment to scouting dept. #nyj

Really sad that this comment had to be clarified to the media.

So Rex gives credit to Tanny and the scouting crew for finding Hill, and the media turns it into Rex dissing Hill, making him seem like he hated the pick. We all know Rex is a defensive guy. It's more him giving credit where it was due, because he DOES like Stephen Hill, but I'd wager his forte is not scouting offensive players.

This is just terrible reporting. Rex has toned it down and the media hates it, so they try look to find insignificant things to nitpick and turn into a controversy. But then again there are plenty of jackasses that believe it. This is getting so old.

The video linked with it was also borderline retarded. "The Jets aren't a team that can come back from a 14-0 deficit." This guy must have not watched too many Jets games over the last 2 years. I wonder why so many other teams that didn't have good preseasons aren't being scrutinized like that.

thank you...rex addressed this during the press conference today and confirms exactly what i've been saying to the posters here who buy and over analyze ever bit of media info they receive.

he basically says the media spun doctored this.

To be honest, Rex can be a little bit confusing when he starts rambling on about this team.

He's trying to be positive and diplomatic, and over explain things.

When he was guaranteeing Super Bowls and promising ass whoopin's he was a lot more concise.

I kinda miss the old Rex.

its only confusing because of the way the info is being delivered to you.

Don't get me wrong. I applaud Rex for not using old, hackneyed sports cliches. But he needs to remember that these reporters are looking for angles, and will do their best to manufacture one if none's available as the deadline looms.

I don't know how he will turn out, but so far he has been pretty good and Rex is just giving the credit to the front office.

If the comments were praising the front office and not slamming Hill (and the front office) it would have been better to wait to make them until Hill proves he was worth the picks. Of course Rex would call a charred hamburger filet mignon so maybe it is just part of his pattern and unfortunately it came up at a bad time.

This is basically what I have been getting at. But I see not many here are willing to accept that praising the FO on an unproven player today could be slamming the FO on a bust tomorrow. Oh well...

the fact that you folks are still debating this is truly hilarious. Thank God we get back to actually playing football this week.

You think that matters? Every play gone bad will have 50 pages of analysis too. The season doesn't change anything.

As far as this thread goes there was never4 anything confusing to anybody who read the story. Rex said it wasn't his choice but after having Hill he is glad that choice was made. I think I said it before but I will again. The people writing the headlines are not the same people writing the copy. That's why the ESPN editor got fired for his "Chink in the Armor" headline about Jeremy Lin but not the guy who wrote the story.

I think a lot of people get that but most of us also understand that Rex blathers a lot and tends to over-praise his players and self-deprecate when his own name comes up.

Looking at the article I think it was equal parts media distortion and Rex blathermouth. I don't see any intent on Rex's part beyond "hey look, there's a microphone!" Which is something we all knew existed anyway.

I'm actually really excited about Hill, he has shown so far that he can get open, if sures his hands up which is very difficult, I think if he can open up the field. By making a couple deep catches, you will see the running and intermediate passing game open up a little.
