CJ69 i think you are beginning to feel the pressure of being exposed for being a negative nelly crankypants.
Turk....agree with you 100%. Today's media is far and away a group of whanabies that put their own spin on everything. Reporting the news is secondary to creating media drama and selling air time and news papers. Think of it as the gossip whores. Very few escape that style
I can't argue with this... But Rex Ryan has brought a lot of this shit on himself. He can only blame himself. Then the Jets bring in Tim Tebow, and anybody with any lick of sense knew the media circus that was going to bring. The Jets couldn't deliberately feed the monster more if they tried.
I think this is different than Coples. Coples's issue is staying motivated every play of the game. He needs a constant kick in his tail, and Rex is willing to provide that to get him to reach his fullest potential. This was just a dumbass thing to say for reasons I've already explained. I don't buy that this was to motivate Hill in the media. In the end, Rex said he'd love to claim him as one of their own, he doesn't say something like "he has to prove it to me." It's not really a big deal, but there have been so many things in Rex's tenure that have been minor like this. Nothing in itself really is a big deal, but it just gets annoying have to explain him at the end of the day. Bottom line: I can't wait until Sunday, so we can finally talk about the Jets ON the field and not this godawful preseason or stupid quotes like this.
sorry but no... the jets have not been brash talking this offseason...every single report by the media, when you actually listen to the response is beyond twisted out of proportion. the media doesn't know what to do, now that the jets havent been brash and making insane proclamations, so they just go ahead and take the liberty to twist facts.
this...of all the instances of quotes etc etc they have all been taken out of context, and i have no reason to believe that situation was any different...im fairly certain cromartie wasnt being serious. but the fact that people continuously buy what theyre fed is kind of funny. the media has the majority of fans by the balls.
Watch the video. You can say that he isn't being serious but it isn't overly clear that he was joking. I didn't think he was joking when he said it. In either case it isn't a distortion of the facts. You are right in that most fans are led around by the media, but at the same time it is kind of funny to act like the Jets are just poor victims of the media. You have a coach who routinely goes out of his way to say things that the media can latch onto. That isn't their fault. Rex Ryan doesn't know how to say no comment. Cromartie doesn't either. The media is going to twist things to get ratings, so don't give them anything to twist.
explain to me how blowing his joking comments way out of proportion is not twisting the facts...they positioned his statement as serious in various forums hence twisting the facts. tell me what rex ryan has said this offseason that the media has latched on to and reported accurately...i dare ya.
You keep saying it was joking but like I said, that wasn't clear. In my opinion he was serious. That is debatable though. Just watch the video. I don't know if you are actually reading what I'm typing. I already said they are exaggerating quotes. But Rex is giving the quotes. You are taking it to the extreme and acting like they are pulling quotes out of thin air. For example: It is a fact that Rex attributed the Stephen Hill pick to Tannenbaum and the rest of the FO. The media interpreted that in a way that you guys don't like. But why give them that opportunity? No other coach in recent memory has been so candid and it is because of the very reason you are complaining about right now. If anybody is "out to get the Jets" it is because Rex and the team has provided ample ammo in the past. You don't get to pretend like the guarantees didn't happen and you don't get to pretend that that doesn't affect future coverage of the team.
im certainly reading what you're typing...and i dont agree with it. im not saying they are pulling quotes out of thin air...im saying they are taking quotes, twisting them into a position they deem fit, and positioning it in a negative light time and time again... it's really a quite simple concept that i've already explained and see no need to explain further.
I love Rex. I love how candid he is, and I love his honesty. But Rex brought a lot of this on himself. You're right that he gives quotes the media can latch on to. He says something like this, which is certainly out of the ordinary, so the writer writes a story about it. The headline writer says Stephen Hill wasn't Rex Ryan's pick...which was an exact quote of what Rex said. There are plenty of times I think the media is unfair to the Jets. Read anything Evan Silva has written this offseason for instance. This isn't one of them. Rex was probably joking, but it's just a stupid thing to say. And after the Jets clamored for attention early on, and then kept doing interesting/ridiculous things to keep the spotlight on them, they've made themselves a story. Then Tebow is brought in, and the spotlight shines even brighter. The Jets chose to bring on a lot of the media coverage. Woody loves it. I'm sure Woody would prefer all positive coverage. But there's been nothing too bad where the line "There's no such thing as bad publicity" still plays.
here it is again though....the portion they are blowing up is not the point of the quote...he was setting up the point that he thinks hill is a hell of a player while complimenting his scouting staff. he wasn't joking...he didn't need to joke...he was saying the opposite that they chose to highlight and call out.
If you say so. I see you not responding to the points that I have made. I agree with everything you said here. I think that with a guy like Rex you have to take the good with the bad. If you can get pumped up because he is a guy that is cocky and doesn't take shit from anyone and doesn't want his team to take shit from anyone, you have to be able to put up with the fallout when expectations are not met.
if you see me not responding to your overarching point then that's cool....no need to get your g-string in a bunch
Right, but the point you are missing is that by him thinking he is complimenting his staff on what is an unknown player he preemptively threw them under the bus in the event that Hill ends up being a bust. There is a reason you don't hear coaches talk specifically about what goes on in the draft room. You can choose to act like that is people making a big deal out of nothing but like it or not, that is a fact. That was not his intention, but that is because Rex blurts things out. He is a candid, spur of the moment guy.
its actually not a fact....its a matter of fact that the media takes a simple quote and spin doctors it to fit their need without reporting the contxt. "stephen hill. not my pick" = rex bashes hill "this is the best team i've ever had" = rex running his mouth again both of which are not even close to the case....we can debate this until we turn blue in the fingertips...we see it two different ways, and thats cool.
sir, i'm more than capable...but i see exactly where this is going...its going in the direction of each of us repetitively repeating ourselves and i dont have the patience for it.
