Tanny, Bradway, and Johnson drew straws to see who would be the guy to tell Rex "We're moving up in the 2nd round to draft a wide out". I read Tanny drew the short straw and wore a cup when he went into Rex's office.

yet ANOTHER example of the media doing everything possible to shine the Jets in a negative light...It's pathetic at this point. I kind of wish the Jets would attack the media, or use them as the enemy in the locker room.

If Rex Ryan said "I like bread" the headline would be "Rex Has One Track Mind - Cannot Think Outside of the Box." First line would be, "The brash Rex Ryan causes a locker room division between those who like bread and those who don't, as the Jets locker room divide continues and appears to have carried over into the new year. Tim Tebow may be the starter by week 4."

I've been saying for months, the media agenda is absolutely disgusting and people sadly continue to feed into it.

...but I think they want the attention. They don't want stories like this, but this is more Rex making a weird comment and the media pouncing on it. Makes a good headline, some page views.

yes, I'm sure they do want the attention. However, its considered the responsibility and due dilligence of the media to report accurate information, attention or not. Which is why no matter what they report people buy it. Because they have an expectation that reporters are reporting that which is factual, and not time and again blatantly misrepresenting the facts to fit their own agenda.

For example, I'm listening to Rex's "this has a chance to be the best team i've had since I've been here." It's not even close to what the media spit it out to be. They blatantly misrepresented it to garner THEIR OWN attention. He goes on to explain how it's a team game and says "I don't know how many wins there will be, but I do think we'll play as a team and it will be a good team."

Simple and done. This is the same thing every single coach in the NFL says on an almost regular basis.

COMBINE that with the fact that he was directly asked a question which commanded that type of response. They make it seem like he just came out and said it.

almost everything the media has reported about the Jets has been a non-story. I've personally reached my boiling point with them.

Nothing about the article was inaccurate. Rex flat out said based on the film he watched, he wouldn't have picked him, and that a wide out wasn't his dream pick. The headline makes it seem worse than it was, but if Rex was more responsible, he wouldn't put himself and the team in these situations.

Not that this is a big deal. It does further the perception that Rex only cares about defense, and that the GM and coach don't always think on the same page. But that would be true whether or not Rex said that.

Only way it's a problem is if Hill is offended by it. And I doubt that's the case, he has no reason not to play as hard.

Rex needs to avoid putting himself in situations where he says things like this. It looks worse written down. I mean, he said he wasn't impressed with the guys film, and if things go wrong, he's distanced himself from the pick.

A lot of times I agree that the media criticism on the team is too harsh. And I'm sure many talking heads will misconstrue what he said and make it seem worse than it was.

It will be a headline for a few days then go away. No big deal.

ill put anything on the fact that if we actually heard him say what he said in context that what he was quoted as saying was quoted entirely out of context; and if we actually heard what he said we would understand that he was in fact being complimentary.

ill literally put anything on the line.

Exactly. He would've picked someone else, but if he could take credit for the pick he would, now.

Some folks really need to step off the ledge.

The purpose of the headline, the only purpose, is to get you to read the opening sentence. As long as it's not factually incorrect, anything goes.

Lol I love how the media ignore the EARLY part of the "contributing early" so that it suddenly becomes an issue. I doubt anyone thought he'd contribute much of anything early because of how raw he was, but I'm guessing the scouts pointed out to Rex his blocking skills and the real need for this offense to have someone taking the top off the defense, which in itself would help him contribute early either way. Seems everyone's ignored this post by JetsUK since he posted it as well.

this a non-issue and the reporter looks like a moron he should never get another interview with any Jets personnel.

The problem with that is none of these assholes are journalists..at best they are bloggers..they have no morals or code to follow and the "editors" that make the headlines are worse than the hacks that write copy.

Rex has learned this off season from Parcells how to deal with players and the press. He did it with Coples and now he's doing it with Hill. He's not babying the rookies, he's sending a message through the press just like Tuna used to. If it works, then its good. Don't care if someone's feelings are hurt. Coples seems to be responding.

this is exactly how Tuna used to successfully get the most out of players - player motivation is a huge part of being a great coach. coples is a classic example - he could be ROTY - IF he plays 110% and works everyday on getting better. - he needs to be properly motivated. same with hill and sanchez too - kick them in the arse and challenge them to achieve.

I think he is beginning to feel the pressure of the "hot" seat he is on because he knows the garbage team he has assembled for this season
