When you say you watched film and you saw nothing showing the guy could contribute. Sorry, but that's a burial. He's backtracking now. It's something he never should have said. Never. By saying he saw nothing in Hill but the FO was adamant about picking him, he questioning them and putting them on the spot. He should have said, "I was wrong. They were right."

He'll be constantly asked and/or reminded that Rex watched film and saw nothing in Hill, but Tanny was adamant and forced the pick on him. It's just didn't need to be said at all.
You know, you're right. But the headline is terrible. Deceptive. If you just see the headline you jump to that conclusion. Whoever wrote that headline / article should be fired. Not every Rex Ryan quote is newsworthy.

The slanting in the headline skews the entire article. That said, Rex should *never* have said he saw nothing in Hill. That comment is what slants everything else that comes after. When he says he saw nothing in Hill but Tannenbaum and Bradway were adamant that sets up a cascading issue if Hill fails this season. Whether or not Hill will be good in the long-run the odds are he will fail this season, particularly given that nobody will be filtering correctly for a 2nd round wide receiver. Hill could catch 30 balls this year and if the offense fails that comment will reverberate.

This. It may light a fire under Hill to improve and perform well, but at the same time, he must be thinking "My HC doesn't really want me on this team?" .

What makes you think Tannenbaum has any real power, that he can fire Rex without Woody's consent? Woody calls the shots, and Woody loves Rex.
Actually, this brings up another question. Rex starts out by saying he saw nothing from Hill that would indicate he could contribute. He then goes on to list his height, speed and good hands. Were those qualities not apparent on film? Which is it?
