Well this is interesting. "Well, nothing told me he would (contribute)," Ryan told Don Banks of Sports Illustrated. "Nothing. When I saw the tape (of his collegiate play) I was concerned. But (Jets general manager) Mike Tannenbaum and (senior personnel executive) Terry Brady and all our scouts were adamant about this guy. They were adamant that this guy can do it. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...stephen-hill-wasnt-his-pick-for-new-york-jets
This has to be a fake or sourced poorly or something like that. You don't criticize a rookie player and your front office simultaneously. Nobody does that. Not even Rex putting his foot in his mouth again. I'm guessing that the writer paraphrased what Rex said in a particularly slanted way. If not then Rex needs a muzzle because that is not a professional way of representing your team to the media.
I agree. I had to read the article numerous times because I couldn't believe it. Those comments were harsh. "Well nothing told me he would contribute. Nothing." Really?
Rex is taking the muzzle off from the sound of things. Can't really blame him, he might be looking at this guy like "WTF did we draft". Although I thought Hill looked pretty good in game 3 other than the dropsies.
There's honest to a fault and then there's loose lips sink battleships. I still think the article is probably off a bit. There's no upside at all for anybody in having the head coach throw a group of people under the bus before the season even starts.
Let's be honest, if it were up to Rex we'd draft defense in every round of every draft. Of course he doesn't want to draft a receiver.
Even if he's thinking that he's not going to say it. That phrase about Tannenbaum and Bradway being adamant about Hill is going to reflect very poorly on the organization as a whole if Hill doesn't prove out.
I thought the same thing. Even if those things are true, why would he ever air that out to the public? It makes no sense. If those were actually his exact words then that was a completely idiotic choice of things to say to the media.
Anyone else think that it was Mangini who ade all the great draft decisions when he was here? Revis D'Brick Mangold Harris B. Smith Leon W. Keller his only bust being Gholston Rex's 3 nfl drafts arent as impressive... could it be becuse his players are still developing? maybe
Any chance this is a ploy by Rex to light a fire under Hill? I mean if you're Hill, you don't give a shit that Tanny and Bradway wanted you... Rex is the one you want to impress.
Or at least offensive college players from tape. Most likely he was saying those things in a self deprecating way regarding his offensive scouting abilities but no matter what his intention was is certainly doesn't sound good.
what is the big deal? its hilarious that some of you are so scared of people telling the truth. rex wouldn't have taken hill in the 2d.... so what?
Because he buries Hill and essentially questions the front office in the same article. How is that beneficial at all?
I cut and pasted from the article in the first post. How is that paraphrasing? Read the article. Read the first post. It's word for word, directly from the article.
bulloney SJF - he didn't "bury" anybody. thats absurd. and he didn't "question" the FO either. Simply told the truth about what happened and what his assessment was at the time. He also complimented Hill and indicated that he wished he could take credit for the pick now. No body was being buried or questioned.
