thats exactly how i read it too. you get the feeling that even the defense was watching last year wondering what the hell they were doing with schotty.
I think it's protecting the football. If the defense aren't defending short fields they will perform better.
I think Revis' recent comments questioning whether the Jets supplied Sanchez with enough weapons this off season would seem to differ from what Rex is saying. But Revis is only the Jets best player and practices against the O everyday. What would he know?
One thing really interesting about Revis this camp is how often he has huddled with Sanchez. Every game I watched once the two of them were both off the field they were standing next to each other on the sidelines and talking. I think we can remove Revis from the potential group of players talking about Sanchez off the record last year. Either that or he's doing every thing he can to make that impression.
Interesting observation, I didn't notice that. It sounds like a great thing - maybe it was something the coaches asked them to do as a part of the whole offense and defense being on the same page thing.
So why did he keep him around so fucking long then! If he wants to bash Schotty, then he needs to look in the mirror and bash himself, because he could have replaced him alot sooner...
"Our defense is excited about our offense," isn't some coach speak you can just throw around. With the way this locker room works, the defensive guys are going to get asked about the offense. If they respond with a party line, I might be a bit concerned, but I have a feeling that won't be the case. By the way, this Green Kool-aid is delicious.
They only just told him at the end of last season that the head coach is responsible for the offense AND the defense.
Could he have though? It's pretty tough to fire your OC after the two AFC championship game seasons. I wonder if any team has fired their OC after a season like that before. Best chance of getting rid of him really after those years was for someone to offer him a HC job. Even after last season it took someone offering him an equivalent role on another team for him to be moved.
Following 09 and '10 do you think Schott should've been canned? The D actually let us down in both AFCCGs. Top running game, young QB. Schott did well in 09 and 10 and fucked up being pass-happy in '11.
You are joking, right? Do you really think that the coaches told Sanchez & Revis to go stand next to each other and chit chat so the fans will think "oh, look...now that's team unity."...? Like every other aspect of the offense & defense is already perfect, and that's the cherry on top. Yeah...totally plausible.
I may be in the minority here, but I think we have a better overall team than 09. Not that 09 was a great team, but winning at the right time can make the difference. I think our late season "weak" schedule may help us make the PO's.
You don't think it's possible that the coaches wanted the leader of the defense and the leader of the offense to communicate throughout the game? Did I suggest the reason was so fans would think one thing or another? No. Did I suggest the offense & defense were already perfect? No. I'm sure I could be wrong but I hardly think it's some ridiculous idea.
It would make sense to have Revis tell Mark what he saw on defense. Why a play may have been broken up, what to look for...
