If he was given a legit chance then the Jets would have just made him the starter in 08 instead of trading for Favre.

It was a great move. Favre led the Jets to an 8-3 record after victories over the Pats and the 10-0 Titans at the time and were the class of the AFC at the time. Then he got hurt which never happened before leading to the collapse. Who knows what would have happened had he stayed healthy.

We got Rex and Sanchez out of the deal. If Sanchez plays out it will be one of the better moves this franchise has made, even if by mistake.

What?!? Of any pro sports team in any league, the Jets are tied with several others for least likely to move anywhere, ever.

I loved it at the time. Looking back, had Brett stuck around for one more year for that 09 season with Rex and to let Sanchez sit behind him for a year. Who knows, maybe we could have went all the way....

I was marginally more excited than when we signed Boomer.

Favre with that '09 defense and o-line would have been absolutely sick. Then again, there's a chance that Rex isn't even here if Favre sticks around so that scenario is possibly moot.

They wanted Clemens to win the job in '07 and '08. he started most games in '07 b/c Chad got hurt so he had a legit shit and in '08 Chad was beating him out when they made the trade. Kellen is a good guy, I wish him well but he's not a starter in this league.

The Giants still sell out their games, the Jets are having issues moving PSLs. I think Woody is very strongly motivated by the bottom line and that bottom line looks a lot better if you can start selling out.

Chad only got benched because the team was struggling in 07.

I dont even recall Pennington beating out Clemens in 08.

We were 8-3 at one point because of Favre too.

It was great that we were able to bring in Rex and solidy the defense once again but this team would be probably be better off without a bottom of the league QB in Sanchez.

It was a risk worth taking, ancient history. BF is one of the all time great QBs. If it was motivated by business considerations - who cares? Newsflash: Football is a business.

Yeah. I know Favre is a dick for playing when he clearly couldn't handle making all the throws, but shouldn't Mangini get some blame for not having the balls to bench him?

They both have the same issues, there are ads to buy Giant tickets just like there are ads to buy jets tickets. The building for both teams is vever full the way the old Stadium.

Chad got benched more b/c of injury and he was outperforming Clemens in TC '08, there wasn't much of a competition(think sanchez vs. tebow).

We were 8-3 b/c the sched was a cupckae one and we were winning mostly in spite of Favre and his bad decisions. he had a good stretch of maybe 3-4 games before he tanked it and tuined our season.

Favre always needs an excuse when he doesn't play well but he got hurt in october, he then played his best football in November. The injury may have affected him but not enoughto make him play as poorly as he did to end that season. he was making bad decisions, he could still make all the throws.

The real interesting hypothetical is if we somehow got 2009 Favre in 2008, what happens then (vis-a-vis the Jets' success that year, Sanchez, etc)? Even with 2008 Favre they looked like one of the best teams in the league through eleven weeks, especially after the back to back wins at NE and over undefeated Tennessee.

i loved the move at the time. i thought that the addition of him to our run game would equal great things. somebody mentioned boomer... i was a little kid when boomer came to town so i loved that more than anything in the world haha, how heartbreaking it was for my young self. i was ready to let that go when they got favre, but then after that season i was a big darksider. was hoping theyd hire spagnuolo but they went with rex, and i was skeptical until that defense came out and completely blew my mind. i will always back rex because of that. the jets d was pretty bad the year before rex, and rex came in and we were absolutely suffocating. so, since it brought us rex, i am still happy with the move. yeh the season ended poorly, but we struck gold with rex. seriously, i get so mad when people give rex shit. so many people dont realize what kind of a coach he really is to be able to bring a defense to an elite level like that no matter where he goes. his brother cant do that. hell, if we got spagnuolo like i wanted this team would probalby be hiring themselves a new hc right now. i hope the front office knows what we have with rex, and hold onto him for a very long time.
