At the time what were your thoughts on the move to bring him in?

Going into that 08 season there was a QB battle between Pennington and Clemens. It was obvious that the coach and front office/ownership was not sold on either guy.

Meanwhile Favre came out of retirement and wanted to play again, but the Packers had already committed to Rodgers as the starter. So they wounded up trading him, the teams that were interested were the Dolphins, Vikings, Bucs and the Jets. Favre chose to come to NY, so that's how the deal got done.

I was happy about the move because I felt at the time that Pennington may not have had much left in the tank. I also felt Clemens may be a good QB but could use another year or two as a backup. Favre IMO gave the Jets the best chance at winning a championship.

We got off to a ok start but eventually put some wins together including beating the Pats at Foxboro and beating the Titans (the team with the best record in the AFC) in Tennesee.

Then we lost a few games and ended the season 9-7 after being 8-3. I lost a lot of respect for Favre because he was only concerned with keeping his iron man streak alive. Clemens could have held the forte until Favre got healthy again. Then what makes it worse he inadvertly got Mangini fired. Then after signing with the Vikings he throws Mangini, and Woody under the bus.

Favre didn't choose NY. Packers basically told him we're trading you there or your ass isn't playing this year. He wanted to go to the Bucs or Vikings but the Packers obviously didn't want to keep him in the NFC.

    Oh and fuck Bert.

awful move for 2008, grat move for 2009 and beyond. His terrible play cost mangini his job and brought us rex and Sanchez. if we kept Chad we win the '08 AFC East BUT we don't get rex and Sanchez that offseason.

I wonder who'd be our QB right now if we kept Chad in 08.

I think Clemens may have been given a legit chance at starting by 2010 if the Jets had kept Pennington in 08.

My thought at the time was the deal was going to be sweet like cotton candy on the tongue and last about as long. I thought it would be entertaining however so I wasn't against it, just not thinking it was worth much to the team.

You know what else this move did? This was when Woody Johnson realized that he liked getting attention. Before this the media wasn't giving a shit about what the Jets did. But ever since Favre (which was a football move unlike Tebow) the Jets have been about creating headlines and Favre was the start of it.

I didn't like it at the time because of Favre's age and I was a big believer in Kellen Clemens. My opinion changed as the season went on and I hated the move every game after that 8-3 start.

I think the headlines started when the new stadium got close. Woody clearly is not winning his battle with the Giants to fill the place on a regular basis. I think the headlines are all about free advertising in the hopes that the Jets will magically sell out the place as a result.

If the Jets wind up leaving town the key moments will have been the failure of the West Side Stadium project and the Giants winning two Super Bowls in a bad economic environment.

I didn't like it - it ignored the long-term, but I was also a big fan of Pennington. I liked when the Jets were 8-3, but not after that.

When I look back, it wasn't so bad. Pennington probably didn't give them any better chance to make the SB and he was at the end of his career. Not sure if they could have drafted a better QB for the future at that point. So they traded one QB at the end of his career for a better QB at the end of his career. Not sure if Mangini should have been fired over that decision, though. Maybe they could have moved him to the front office. His drafts, except for Gholston, were pretty good.

It was a great move and really put the Jets on the map once again. And despite people's personal feelings for him, he truly was the best statistical quarterback we've had since Vinny. He was absolutely killing it until he gave up on the team late in the season.

Clemens was given a legit chance in 2007. Clemens is an ok backup, he is not a starting QB in this league.

we fill the Stadium similar to the way the Giants do. We charged different prices, our PSLs were more expensive(Woody's fault for being greedy). The only semi-reasonable pricing is upstairs and the views upstairs are awful. neither team sells out the way the used.

Big fan of Brett, but I didn't like the move. But hey it got Mangini fired and we got Rex and Sanchez in the process. So it's a win for us. That was the year I started hating Brian Schottenheimer.

It means that when they made the decision, I didn't like it, but it wasn't fatal to my loyalty to the team.

When they were 8-3, I was happy that they were 8-3, but still questioned the decision in terms of the long-term benefits, which were obviously not good. When they finished the season so poorly, I was disappointed since they didn't make the playoffs and still questioned the decision.
Even though I wasn't happy with the decision, I still was routing for my team. The decision wasn't so bad that I stopped routing for the Jets and stopped having emotional highs and lows based on their performance.

Now, looking back in retrospect, I don't think it was such a bad decision.

Now let's contrast that with the Knicks, a team I used to be a fan of. When they picked up Latrell Sprewell, that was it. In my eyes, it was such a bad decision, that I could not be a fan anymore. To this day, I am still not a fan of the Knicks nor the NBA at all.

I'm a big Favre fan and loved the move. Not even the great Favre could have saved the Jets. 8-3 then 1-4 and we get fucked out of the play offs.

I liked the move at the time but hated how they treated Chad. Through out the rumors the Jets denied and said Chad was the qb,,,,,,,the pretty much pulled Pennington off a plane that was about to takeoff for a game and cut him. As I said I liked getting Favre but thought the way that they did it was not too classy as far as Chad goes,,,,,I wish that guy nothing but the best he was always a class act
