CEO's and and high level managers attend the same things all the time. The Jet coaching staff attended this. These can teach people better ways to communicate, to trust, to listen -- because it is the jets is is crazy. How many teams have brought in a sports psychologist to help a player in a funk? How is this any different?

Hey all of you guy won't be playing this week and we have to travel so instead of sitting in a film room looking at the Eagles go to this seminar and see if you get anything useful from it .

Do you know how many executives have business/personal/leadership coaches? Pretty much all of them.

seriously...God forbid they think outside the box to make sure everyone is on the same page. The press just seems to look for thing to say about the Jets that will cause controversy. When the Jets make the playoffs I hope all of them write an article entitled - "Yeah, I have No Idea What I am Talking About"

Anyone that thinks something like this wouldn't be beneficial wasn't paying attention last year. Who cares what it looks like? It can't hurt.

This is pretty commonplace, but it did irk me that Rex only invited the starters.

I do think that this team has really clumsily forced its hand with the whole leadership/ captaincy thing... what ever happened to letting guys emerge organically?

'Born leaders' are more the exception than the rule.

I have served in the military for a decade and been in a corporate environment for largely the rest of my professional career, and I attended dozens of leadership courses in the service and with the companies I've been employed with, and those seminars taught methods of leadership, had speeches from leaders in all walks of life, and gave me things to draw from that I would not have experienced otherwise had I not attended them.

I've also played a fair amount of football in my early life and while I knew guys that were leaders on the field, some of those same guys could be the biggest punk pieces of shit in the locker room and on the bus.

During all of my years, I've had managers/supervisors/commanders who all had attended leadership courses to help them inspire their subordinates/peers/what-have-you. Few of them ever seemed to be the 'born leader' type, but some had qualities in their personality that were more beneficial in a leadership role than others. And you can bet that they drew on other leader-types to help them hone their skills.

So... I really don't get this thread.

All that alpha male BS is garbage. What happens if the alpha male is the stupidest person in the room?

I applaud the Jets for this move, since it can hurt. Who cares what the other fans think?

I did the GoRuck challenge back in April; it’s one of those endurance challenges put on by a bunch of ex Special Forces Green Berets. While I went in thinking it would be not much more than a physical challenge (which it was) it turned out to be way more about team work and leadership.

When I finished I thought to myself that every manager in America could learn something from that experience…the first thing that came to mind were sports franchises / teams. It really was an awesome experience difficult to comprehend until you have given it a try.

Special Forces know a thing or two about leadership and teamwork.
