Yes folks, he made a bad drop last week and got punished for it in the worst way possible. Watch the tapes on him. He does that occasionally and he'll probably continue to make those mistakes at random intervals for the next couple of years. Don't tell me he has bad hands. That kid made some ridiculous, absurd, no way should you bring that in type catches in college. He has also gotten wide open many times in the preseason against 1's and 2's. He ran an awesome hesitation route on Sunday and Sanchez put a strike right to his back shoulder which is indefensible with that type of speed. He might not be exactly what we want in the RZ just yet. He's probably going to make some drops that are going to make us want to pull our hair out. But this kid is already bringing a lot to the table so please don't tell me about the lack of weapons. He's a weapon already.
good call.everyone wants to point out the drop.but he is a raw 2nd round pick who had 5/70 against starters.this kid is going to be a player sooner rather then later.yes there will be some rookie mistakes but there will be alot of great plays too. i love this kids potential and can't wait to watch him become the big wr we need
I think you're kind of in denial a little bit. How often in the NFL have there been WRs that could make awesome, impossible catches but would drop some easily catchable balls? The history is full of these guys! To me "good/great hands" isn't defined by the difficulty of the catches you can make... but by the reliability that you offer to the QB in terms of % of catches thrown your way. I think it's much more important that you make an "easy" catch on a crucial down rather then amazingly bring in the occasional deep ball. I have no idea how Hill will pan out, and I certainly hope he becomes the best WR in the league, but not admitting that he's not a reliable WR as of now is being a major homer.
Oh ok. I bet he has about as many highlight plays as he does drops. Somewhere around 6 each. 50 catches and 5 TDs would be phenominal for me. I bet he is less than phenominal though.
I'm writing him off. If a guy can't lead his team in yards and catches as a rookie in the preseason he's worthless. Wait
Who wrote him off? He'll have growing pains this year and be a below average 2nd receiver. But he needs experience, and he needs to play. His size, speed and blocking will keep him on the field, and if he starts making big plays for us, all the better.
I think he's going to draw a lot of doubles which we desperately need or he'll just make the highlight reel a lot. He'll make some drops but probably not as many as people think and at the end of the day that's a lot better than the ghost of Plaxico jogging around last year.
I like him on the outside and going long but he's too raw to trust in traffic in the middle of the field now.
The Jets had a rookie WR many years ago that dropped a lot of balls his rookie season. He was also a 2nd Rd selection and many fans were calling him a bust his 1st year. Wesley Walker turned out to be a solid NFL WR. Let's give Hill the benefit of the doubt, IMO, he's going to do well. WR is one of the most difficult positions to excel at your 1st year. Press coverage is very difficult for newbies to master.
All I seem to read on here is we have no offensive weapons and it isn't true. 2 or 3 years from now he should be a lethal weapon but that doesn't mean that one of the most athletically gifted receivers in the league is chopped liver just because he's learning.
He has shown great talent -- usually, rookie receivers disappear. They either get jammed, covered like a blanket, or drift on their routes such that they don't seem visible to the quarterback. Hill keeps turning up like a bad penny, there is, get thrown to. That means he's physically a load. Fast, big, and physical. He just has the dropsies. He'll get better at that.
I'm with all of you, Hill has all the potential. Merrill Hoge ranted after the panthers game saying he doesn't know many receivers who can overcome "bad hands". So I hear you on people giving Hill a hard time. I think this is all exasperated by the lack of preseason offense.
