There's excuses on both sides.... Just look at the excuses your alter-ego, Phaytal, has for every time Tebow won. "Well, the only reason they won was because of...." The amount of excuses I hear about how a team that had only won 7 out of their last 31 games (worst in the entire NFL over that span) suddenly went 8-5 with Tebow is pretty astounding. Laughable, really.
That should have been an easy completion for even a high school QB. I'll readily admit that. What is puzzling to me is that he never missed that kind of throw in college. It's not the defense because the dude was wide open.
it's not puzzling , read my post in other thread , it's the relentless drive to change his motion which really was not broken ( look at the Houston game his rookie year , he used his bad motion to torch them for 300+ yards) . Bad advice the kid has gotten, he just needed to be himself
I really think we should see how Tebow is at his new role before talking about how terrible he is. We brought him in to boost the running game, not to be starting QB. The kid is special and I think he's going to excel in his regular role. I think he'll be like Brad Smith, except he'll pass the ball every once in a while. The one thing I didn't like about Brad is that he never passed, and teams knew it. He did bust a few really nice long runs, but usually it was a 2 yard gain at most. I think if Tebow is even a slight threat to throw, teams will respect it more. Ask the Steelers about that one They wish they respected the pass on that first play of OT. I also think Tebow is a much more dynamic and powerful runner than Smith.
Maybe, just maybe part of the reason the pass-blocking wasn't so good is b/c Tebow holds onto the ball for SO long.
That's a factor to some extent; but in all fairness, up until Howard started last game against the Panthers, the OL has been dreadful. You can't pin that on Tebow.
I was talking about the Broncos OL. Jets OL is pretty good aside from RT when Hunter was there. Broncos OL is hard to tell since the last 2 QB's we had weren't great. Orton was immobile and Tebow holds onto the ball too long. It's not elite, but not as bad as the Tebow homers think.
It looks like he intended to throw that away. Didn't even see the guy. But, I saw a Denver game last year that was almost the exact same thing so I dunno what's up.
There's no question that sometimes he holds the ball for too long. I don't badger him as much for that because it's a common flaw among young QBs. Sometimes, he's egregious about it; yeah, it's problematic; and, yeah, he should be improved upon it further than he has in his third year. But I think he has worse flaws in his game. Despite that, he hasn't had much of a fair share of protection behind the Jets OL this Preseason. And it's not like it's one or the other (holding the ball for too long or lack of protection); it's a combination of the two.
way too rational of a post, I insist you stick your fingers in your ears and shout at the top of your lungs like the rest of us
Looked to me like he was trying to hit the guy, but it was yet another throw off his back foot. As he used to make throws like that in college rather routinely, I really think it has to do with trying to get used to his "new" mechanics. It's like when you retool your golf swing. All of a sudden, shots that you used to hit with a 5 iron, you can now reach with a 7 or 8 iron. Thing is though, you have to practice those shots. It's similar to his missed TD pass to Hill in the end zone. He was cross stepping to the sideline, threw the ball across his body and off his back foot. That too is a throw that he made numerous times in college. But that was back when he was winding up and winging it. I'm not overly concerned about throws like that because that kind of thing is readily fixed simply by more and more repetitions.
I'm wondering if Rex and Sparano put some kinds of restrictions on him wrt pulling it down and running it. Like, if he has no time at all, by all means, take off running. Or if the Defense has 3 deep safeties, run it. BUT, if it's single safety, stand in the pocket until you find someone ? I can see them doing this as a learning tool, trying to force him to go through all his progressions to find an open receiver. Was kind of surprised that he didn't take off running on any of the last 4 plays against Carolina.
My opinion of Tebow hasn't changed at all. I still think he's an unnecessary headache (not him per se, but what follows him around). I still think he can help the Jets win games in various roles. I still think he has no business as a starting QB right now, and thus, he's nowhere near Sanchez's job. I still think he has a mountain of flaws to correct, and I don't know if he'll ever correct them. I still think he's a good player and a good teammate. I thought all of these things before Tebow arrived, and nothing has transpired to change my thinking. And trust me, he definitely won't be my favorite player on the Jets, not now and not at the Season's end.
And that's why not starting this year might be the most helpful thing to Tebow. If used correctly, he can still make a positive impact for the team but his throwing isn't the focal point or the main way to help the team. He will get ton of practice reps as a backup and I'm sure they'll use him as a scout QB a lot since the Jets have had trouble with QB's who can make plays with their legs (Big ben :sad. He can work on his motion and footwork without actually having to deal with negative results hurting the team. If he spends all year imrpvoing them, when eventually thrown in the fire in in a couple years he will be thinking less and reacting more with better mechanics. At least thats the plan. Not sure if it will happen
I suppose that's possible, but I haven't heard anything about it from Rex and Sparano. Not sure. Another possibility might be that he wants to eradicate the perception that he's more of a running/option QB than a pocket-passer. Although it sounds silly to consider how public perception could affect athletes (specifically someone as popular and used to the media/critics/etc as Tebow is), it's not THAT far-fetched. I remember McNabb wanted to change that very same public perception of his style. I'm almost certain Cam Newton has mentioned it too. (I don't have any quotes or citations, but I'm pretty sure I heard those sentiments from each of them). Anyway, we don't know enough at the moment because the Jets Offense has been a Rubix Cube this Preseason, and Tebow hasn't shown much progress for numerous reasons.
You have something personal against him? What if he takes over and leads the Jets to a SB with a 80% completion percentage and 1000 yards rushing? He still wouldn't be your favorite player on the Jets?
