Yeah it's Bayless. There are so many reasons Jeter could have improved in the offseason and he goes for the shock value and headline. Not surprising, they way people gravitate to the story. "Jeter has impressive year following ritual to get back to basics and seeing the ball better" or "Jeter taking PEDs?!?!?!"
Arguably he hasn't improved. Slightly reducing his strikeout rate (luck and becoming a smarter hitter adjusting to his old age and slower bat speed), an improvement in xBABIP-BABIP differential (luck), and a lower LD% (seeing the ball better) can easily turn a .300 hitter into a .327 hitter without any improved skills.
He prob guna like aim up and to da right mo' than usual, yo. Jeter was pretty lucky on that pitch. Two or three inches two the right and he'd be lucky to be alive, never mind still playing baseball.
There's due diligence and then there's zero chance http://content.usatoday.com/communi...hia-mark-teixeira-a-rod/1?csp=ip#.UD2S5t1lSP9
I don't see how getting sabathia and lee was a real possibility. Weird article. I think it was more of an either/or thing. Gonzalez is good defensively himself, makes slightly less money, is two years younger, and is a better hitter. I don't see how anyone could call it a wash.
I think Jeter rebound is due to him not being engaged anymore. Focusing on the ball and not the box so to speak. Wanted to win that series over toronto this afternoon, not the case. Been a weird season.
After tonight the Yankees could be 3 1/2 games from missing the playoffs..fire Cashman and Giardi..who was that hitting cleanup again last night?
We all know Jeter slays on the reg. To answer your comment seriously, being engaged had to have made his sex life less time-consuming.
For the last 3 months he's been pretty good. Think of how badly he started the season, I think it's clear he's turned it around no?
I forget what game I watched him pitch recently, but dude threw like 10 fastballs in a row. And it's not like his shts 95+. I think he needs to do a better job mixing his pitches and staying ahead in counts, as well as spotting that fastball.
He's always been a fastball pitcher, and while I agree he'd probably benefit from mixing up his sequences more, I think he's made improvements this year. His FB might not be 95+, but everyone you hear talk about it says it has late life. Look at Robertson. Dude sits 91-92 and has a ridiculous K-rate because it's sneaky fast. Hughes' fastball is like that, and his velocity this year is as good as it's been in his career, if not better. Every pitcher needs to stay ahead in counts and spot their fastball. Hughes has been doing that better than most, too. His contact percentage is down this year, and he's getting more swinging strikes.
I've always dug Phil Hughes, when he first came up I thought he was going to be a 20 win a year guy every year, but the injuries early on i think definitely have taken some steam from him. I saw him mow down the Indians in '07 and was fired up. It seems like he gets in alot of trouble with two outs often. or that could just be my brain not working as usual. been a weird baseball season hasn't it?
No, that's pretty true. At least this year. Code: Outs BA OBP SLG OPS 0 outs .229 .281 .390 .671 1 out .268 .301 .512 .813 2 outs .276 .329 .507 .836 It's less true for his entire career, but there's still a slight trend.
