A 2nd and Greene?! We should give up our 1000 yard rusher and a 2nd round pick for a guy thats only played one year and has never ran over a 1000 yards? Make no mistake, I think the kid is good and will be a star but that's way too much. Doing deals like this is what sets back a franchise.

You ppl are effin crazy...Greene sucks? Quietest thousand yards in NFL. Did so when the team abandoned the run for close to a third of the season. Also, he's a slow starting RB, his last 10 carries are better than the first 10, but when he only gets 10 it serves no purpose. Oh, and it's a contract yr. Perfect storm for this dude to get shit done!
I'm very hesitant on drafting Ball, he's a great player but Wisconsin ran him into the ground with so many carries over his career, not to mention how many carries he'll get this year.
Before we do anything at RB, it'd seriously help if the oline showed that they could open some holes. Don't know if its the guys themselves, or the "scheme", but the defense isn't getting moved off the ball and lanes aren't being opened.
Set at WR? This statement I cannot agree with. We are far more "set" at RB. Greene is a bit pedestrian, but he is capable of getting the job done with proper blocking. And McKnight is more than a gadget player at this point. He's actually turned out to be better than I thought he would ever be. No, our corp of WRs is far worse off than the RBs. That's not to say I wouldn't mind if we drafted a new starting RB next year and allow Greene to hit the FA market...
Many follow the belief that you NEVER take a Wisconsin RB. Their OL is so stout year after year they make the RBs look better than they really are (see: Brian Calhoun). Plus they do run them into the ground.
We need a running back like David Wilson I wanted us to draft him. We need that back that can start stop quick and is shifty and can make people miss in a shoe box if he had to. Plus just be just be fast as anything.
1. It's ground & pound. It's gonna be ugly football. 3 yards & a cloud of dust. Patience. Win the field position battle, wear down the front 7, take a few shots downfield & capitalize on the opposition's mistakes. It's not gonna be a high flying offense. The running game isn't gonna average 7 yards a carry no matter who is on the line or who is playing RB. If fans realize this going in, you will save yourself alot of strife. You can win with this formula. But you have to accept it for what it is.Patience. 2. Ever notice how every year relatively unknown skill players step up & become household names seemingly out of nowhere? Especially at running back? That's b/c running backs are quite often interchangeable. A product of the O-line & the offense's rythym. What the jets have is alot of unknowns behind Greene. But people need to allow these young players the opportunity to step up. Also..refer to point # 1. 3 yards a carry early in the game may not be pretty..but over time it is very effective. Powell, Ganaway & Mcknight were all good RB prospects coming out. Let's give them the opportunity to step up. 3. The ideal skillset of a Jets WR has changed w/ the addition of Sparano. We are no longer gonna target thick route runners w/ limited downfield ability. That was what Schotty wanted. The jets are going w/ height/weight/speed type's who can get downfield & get chunk yardage. Maybe they won't catch 8-10 balls a game..but they can get YAC, stretch the field & make big plays. This transition isn't gonna happen overnight. Free agent WR's aren't cheap & aren't a good way to build an offense. The Jets are building their WR corps for the longhaul & it isn't gonna happen overnight. Let's hope Holmes, Keller & occassionally Hill can make the timely big plays when called upon.
From what Ive been reading/hearing, baring a trade, the Saints are likely to cut either Chris Ivory or Travaris Cadet. Cadet has flashed a lot during the preseason and has shown excellent ability to catch the ball. If either of these players are cut we need to jump on this IMMEDIATELY. Either one could have a big role on this team... Boy Im jealous of all the talent NO has in their backfield.
People not long ago on here were talking about how a 2nd and a 4th for MJD is too much, and a 2nd and Greene for a RB who has only played a year isnt overpaying? If someone who led the league in rushing last year and has about 3 great years left couldnt probably fetch a 1st, I have a hard time believing Tate would. Tate does have 2 years left on his rookie deal though... I would definitely love this kid on the Jets, especially if they could get him for a 3rd and a player or something like that... He does have big time talent, and its sad seeing him sit behind a top 3 back in the league meanwhile he could put up similar numbers here.
Why not Ryan Grant? He is a free agent I think and he has 2 1200 yard seasons in his brief career. I know he was hurt but certainly worth a look.
I know his name was brought up earlier as a trade, but Chris Ivory could be cut by N.O. In which case I'd love to see him picked up. Pretty sad that Tannenbaum wastes a pick on a RB every single year and the Jets are still very weak at the position.
If Ivory is cut we should bring him in for depth, but in no way should we trade Greene. He'll be fine, I'm more concerned with McKnight / Powell. I also agree that WR is more important if Chaz never gets healthy.
Have I really heard that James Starks and Ryan Grant are better than Shonn Greene? Really??? Come on now. Now, if Starks is cut, I'm not opposed to bringing him in, even though I'm not a huge fan. If Ivory is cut, also not a bad option. But they're not upgrades over Shonn Greene.
