Jets fans really are spoiled. I guess people don't remember some of the disasters we've had playing at CB over the years - guys that truly did get burned constantly. Wilson absolutely got much better from year 1 to year 2. No, he hasn't looked great in this preseason but that's not such a big deal. When you're playing behind Revis and Cro it takes a really great performance not to look like the weak link. So he got beat on a couple of plays yesterday - not the end of the world. Did people expect him to become the next Revis - or even Cro - after his 2nd season just because he was a #1 pick? Let's be realistic.
I think people already have, but maybe Piss Drinker can post some dopey site that has just the right skewed stats to back up his claim.
I was speaking specifically in reference to the CB position since we've had Revis. It doesn't matter who else we have playing, if they aren't as good as Revis they're going to take heat from the fans - it's just inevitable.
Ask and ye shall receive...I went digging and found this: Rank Name Team TA Rec % Ct 66 Captain Munnerlyn CAR 61 45 73.8 65 Jacob Lacey IND 68 50 73.5 64 Tracy Porter NO 73 52 71.2 63 Jerraud Powers IND 59 41 69.5 62 Orlando Scandrick DAL 62 43 69.4 61 Aaron Ross NYG 84 57 67.9 60 DeAngelo Hall WAS 94 63 67.0 59 Kyle Wilson NYJ 60 40 66.7 58 Cedric Griffin MIN 64 42 65.6 57 Quentin Jammer SD 66 43 65.2 To put it mildly Wilson is the 59th rated CB in the league. Considering that's 32 teams with 64 starters...being 59th is not bad at all. 60 pass attempts at him with 40 caught. That leads to a 66.7% completion rate. Not bad for a slot guy where it's more about the tackle than the pass breakup. Quick routes are usually completed but the tackle is essential. And just so you know...Wilson doesn't register on the list of CB's with the worst YAC.
What the f$%&^ were you watching. Anyone who though he had a decent game should give their head a shake.....Just rediculous. And yes, I will complain about subpar play from a high draft pick who has had time to mature.
Guys like Ross and powers are considered their teams best CB, and Wilson was ahead of them last year. We have 3 starting CB's who are top 60 at the position. Y'all need to stop being so revisionist. And yes he didn't have a good game the other night but Wilson is pretty damn good. Next.
Keeping in mind that Revis was first at 41.7% and Cromartie was tied for sixth at 46.4%. Hence the spoiled argument.
Link? It looks like you filtered that. I know you claim to have played pro, but I have seen little in terms of technical breakdown for his game from you. Care to share?
I never said prime.....but you want to steady improvement. See who gets targeted all season long and the results and you'll eat your words.
Wilson has shown steady improvement. Of course he's going to be targeted. Why would you target Cro or Revis?
Who do you expect to be targeted all year long? Revis? Cro? Of course Wilson is going to get thrown at the most when those other two guys are out there. Let's wait and actually see some results before freaking out. Edit: Do you seriously believe he didn't improve from year 1 to year 2? You can't start judging his 3rd season based on preseason games. Gimme a break.
id like a link, as well id like to see a list with the outside CBs filtered out so we can see how wilson ranks among the slot guys
Mangenius wouldn't have drafted him... but in all seriousness, Mangini sucked at line picks, but knew his backs, while rex seems to have the opposite proclivity. food for thought...
Ooop...sorry guys, here's the link: http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/01/12/cornerbacks-a-glance-at-the-2011-numbers/ No worries Abyz...I'm working on a technical breakdown but it's randomly getting done here at work. I'll have it up tonight.
Please do! Because so far just looking at this link you provided me, the best cornerbacks behind Revis are: 2: Ike Taylor 3: Brent Grimes 4: Chris Fucking Gamble! 5: Sheldon WhosYaDaddy Brown Looking forward to this in-depth analysis.
You don't think those are believable names? Ike Taylor may have been raped by Tebow->Thomas, but he was shutdown pretty much all of last season. Brent Grimes, I'm almost positive he led the league in PDs in 2010. Chris Gamble and Sheldon Brown have always been solid CBs. I'm a little surprised I didn't see Brandon Flowers in the top 10 though.
Ike Taylor is not a shutdown corner, but I will wait for you to give me some sort of argument to the contrary, because he seems to me to be a product of pressure, which the Jets did not have going for them last season. Gamble is a glorified zone corner. Sheldon Brown is pretty good, but he is light years behind Revis in terms of ability. Stats do not ever tell the whole story, and many times they tell the wrong one.
