Hit the panic button because Sanchez played 5 drives with his starting offensive line and 0 full drives with his starting WRs and TE out there? There are 5 drives not including the one starting in the RZ and the one at the end of the first half where they didn't try. 3 of those drives crossed the 50 and led to points opportunities. One went three and out. And the other is a fixable pick which was in and out of Hill's hands. They obviously need to work on executing in the RZ, but this was the first game with their new O line and it looked like they gave Sanchez time. They were scoring opportunities 3/5 drives and then once more with their defense. They turn one of those FG into touchdowns or take away a dumb penalty/missed penalty and there you go. Hill doesn't have the best hands, but he is also a rookie. I also think the chances of him dropping a ball that leads to a pick are lower than him just dropping/catching the ball. The penalties is also something Sparano should be able to fix since his whole deal is discipline. There actually haven't been very many offensive penalties so that makes me thing this was more of a fluke (and missed call). So no I am not in a panic mode like ESPN over games that don't count. The graphic fails to mention Sanchez is almost passing at 70%, he has played 2 quarters a drive with his full WR group (on a snap count), he has played 2 quarters and a drive with what will be his actual O line (actually less as Vlad started the second half for Moore), and he has played 0 drives with Keller, Kerley, Holmes, and Hill the players they expect to roll out there. That is why I laugh at the graphic. It doesn't take into account the players the Jets will be rolling out for game 1-17 (barring injury) have not played the majority of the 15 drives with Sanchez. Also like the fact how for Tebow they include the drive with a kneel, but for Sanchez they don't talk about the drive where the Jets wanted to kill the clock. They also don't mention one of the interceptions was clearly not his fault while the other was clearly his fault. I could go on and on, but yes the graphic is terrible from ESPN and no I am not panicking for all the reasons listed above. This was in the thing you quoted "Tebow put together some terrific drives to win games". Yep I give him no credit I was also responding to a post that was asking rhetorically asking if Von Miller threw the touchdown passes or the run the ball in for touchdowns.
You realize that the Gators have been the premier football team in Florida since the mid-90's, right? Three national championships since '95, and two of them without Tebow as the starter. UF had a bad season last year, but is still considered top-dog in Florida, though FSU and Miami are coming back to form now.
Brad Smith- 114.1 career passer rating, 5.9 YPA, 1.6 TD/INT Pat White- 147.4 career passer rating, 7.7 YPA, 2.4 TD/INT Troy Smith- 157.1 career passer rating, 8.5 YPA, 4.2 TD/INT Tim Tebow- 170.8 career passer rating, 9.3 YPA, 5.5 TD/INT One of these players was a better passer than the others.
1) Yep, because we all know that time spent standing on the sideline holding a clipboard is so much more valuable than time spent playing. Right? 2) Ain't nearly as important as wins. 3) If you can't see that he is throwing a lot better, tighter spirals this year already than last then you haven't been paying much attention, either this year or last. 4) Even many of Tebow's detractors have no problem acknowledging this to be true. 5) Funny, because his college passing proves that he can throw. All Tebow haters love to ignore that he was one of the most elite passing quarterbacks in NCAA history. Better than both Eli and Peyton Manning. Doesn't fit the narrative, though. Also, maybe you hadn't heard, but Tebow completely changed his throwing mechanics when he came into the NFL. Think having that become 2nd nature might take some time? He may never get his college accuracy back, we don't know. I'm betting he will, but even if he doesn't, his skill set doesn't require a 66% completion percentage to be successful in the NFL, as the Broncos run last year showed. 6) I see constant moaning and complaining in the main Jets forum about Sanchez not having Santonio to throw to and not having any big WR weapons that he is familiar with to throw to. Sanchez has gotten to throw to those guys all throughout training camp. Tebow didn't even get a chance to do that at training camp in Denver last year. As usual, Tebow gets judged by one standard and all other NFL QB's get judged by another. 7) Never heard this one nor do I even understand it.
lol, a team that cratered the year he left for the NFL. Maybe he was a large part of why they were a better overall team, think? No, I'm sure you didn't, doesn't fit the meme that Tebow has sucked as a QB forever and has succeeded purely as the result of fortunate, dumb luck of being on the right team at the right time. A team that, by the way, apparently had all their success without any contribution from their Heisman trophy winning QB.
Amen to that. Those players were all great college players, but DAMN those florida teams were stacked. Urb coaching, Harvin, Hernandez, Louis Murphy, David Nelson (bills), the Pouncey brothers on the line.. (and that's just the offense!) Pat White, Troy Smith, Brad Smith all would've won championships too with those squads.. They were great college QBs. Had they played for those Florida teams would they be called winners as much as Tebow is? Would they have been 1st round picks? Would they get as much publicity/blind followers? OR would they have just been called products of the system? or good college players on great teams but can't be NFL quarterbacks? I'm thinking this would be more true. That is the whole premise of this argument that you get but the teboys don't... Tebow was a great college QB, but there are plenty of Great College QBs that don't get the same treatment that Tebow does. Pat White/Brad Smith were told if they wanna cut it at this level they are going to have to switch to WR/RB's/specialty players. Tim Tebow is a similar player that should be in the same role as those two. Nothing wrong with that at all.
Are you for real? Tebow was a large part of their successes for sure, but that next year they lost A LOT, not just him. In 2006 they won a National Championship (13-1) with Chris Leak for shits sake. Next year they start Tebow and go 9-4. You could say the same thing about them cratering the year after Leak left!!
Tebow IS in that role. What red carpet has been rolled out for Tebow that you're seeing? He was never built around, never "given" a job like the presumed franchise QB (like Sanchez, etc.). Not saying there's anything wrong with that for Sanchez, just that you seem to think the NFL just opened up for Tebow and allowed him to walk on and take over. It's actually been a pretty rough road, never has he been the #1 guy in camp, his reps as a rook were all wildcat stuff, both times he got a chance to start it was stepping into a team spiraling (difficult) and he lost his job after his second year, to come here in and be the Jet's #2. What world do you live in that he's been handed so much? What "silver spoon" is there to resent in Tebow? Just realize it -- it's the ESPN and web coverage that's disproportionate, not his actual handling in the NFL.
That is pure, blind speculation. You're sure as heck right about that, but not in the way you think. Name one young NFL QB with Tebow's accomplishments who was mercilessly vilified as Tebow was before he was even drafted much less had played a single down in the NFL. I'll be waiting for your response.
Oh come on I didn't say he wasn't part of the success. He was a big part of it but don't act like those teams weren't stacked with talent. Also the year he left so did a ton of that talent. Some of you are so blind with your Tebow adoration its ridiculous.
They cratered on D in '07. That '06 D was awesome. Tim won the heisman the next season when they went 9-4.. Troy Smith won the Heisman and the Buckeys were suppose to blow the gators off the field in the 06 title game.. Just sayin.
You miss read what wrote I was actually giving you credit for saying it as in ..... " and like you said......"
Sorry, but Tebow's Gator teams were so loaded that anyone could have won National Championships on them. Just to put it in perspective, his entire offensive line made it to the NFL. He vilification was justified. His skill set never had a chance in the NFL at quarterback. He was drafted far too early by a moron who had to crawl back to New England with his tail between his legs. He hasn't shown any improvement since the day he was drafted. He is now in his third year, and can't even complete 40% of his passes against 3rd string scrubs. His current market value is a 4th-5th round pick, which is slipping as well. If he was anyone but Tim Tebow, the bringer of all that is holy, he would be on a practice squad somewhere in the CFL.
LOL anyone who thinks the Gators were top tog in the state of Florida until 2006 is completely clueless. The Gators won in 96, but lost during that season to FSU! FSU continued its complete dominance of the 90s, winning a title in 1999 (going undefeated, something UF has never done) and playing in 3 title games up until the year 2001. During that time until the savior came, they went 6-5 against UF. Up until Tebow, FSU had won twice as many championships, and played for significantly more than UF. Then Miami went on its ridiculous run from 2000-2003, where they had the greatest collection of talent of all time. They were close calls and BCS formulas away from possibly 3 titles in a row, going an absurd number of games between losses. Miami played UF 4 times from 2000-2008 and went 4-0. In fact the Gators HADNT BEATEN Miami since 1985, until Tebow did it in 2008 against a 7-6 Miami squad. Miami sported 5-1 national championship ratio pre-Tebow, and is 28-26 lifetime against the Gators. Tim Tebow is the greatest thing to ever happen to that school, and his skill during 2006-09 brought UF into elite status and for the first time in decades, an extended period in top of the state of Florida. It should be noted that during this great run, Miami and FSU both had coaching turmoil and were HORRIBLE by their standards. The Gators in no way shape or form (based on record, championships, or head to head record) were the team of Florida until Tim Tebow arrived, and that's why he is so worshipped.
This board doesn't want to hear a bunch of Gator/FSU crap. Take it to the Gator boards and troll them.
Chris Leak wasn't transcendently great, but he was no slouch as a college QB, either. And maybe you didn't realize this, but Tebow accounted for 33% of the TD's that Florida scored in their 2006 Championship season, when he was a Freshman back-up QB. They hardly cratered. Their 4 losses (including to Michigan in the Capital One Bowl) were by 3 points, 4 points, 12 points and 5 points. 2007 was Tebow's Heisman year. In 2010, the year Tebow left for the NFL, Florida's 5 losses were by 25 points, 4 points, 3 points, 22 points and 24 points. I'm sure they did lose other good players that year, but they lost good players every year of Tebow's tenure. It wasn't until Tebow himself was gone that the team had a drastic drop-off.
Mercilessly vilified HAHAHAHAHA. Poor Tim Tebow, its so sad he gets "mercilessly vilified". God Forbid someone question his ability to play QB in the NFL. Sorry, you are right I can't think of one single player in the history of football to have their abilities doubted. hahaha
